Will it always be this easy to earn money in game?

What I love to see is the many replies of "make it harder". I would like to see some increased dificulty too.

Seems to easy to upgrade with trading. Keep with it and before you know it you will be flying a bigger ship and raking in the Benjamins. ;)

Make it harder I say. I want to earn it and feel proud to own a certain ship. :p

This is Beta, For now I'm just playing with all the buttons and dials to get from A to B and see what does or doesn't work. So think "out of the box" and do everything you can to crash the game in regular gameplay and then report it when you find a glitch. Only then will it be the awesome final game we will all go nuts about.

So you found a profitable trade route. Great. Maybe that one is too easy. Report it.

Yes FD is walking a fine line here as they don't really give you all the information on the specifics of the game as to do so would give away all the enjoyment of finding them out in the final version. So it was pretty smart of them to have multiple thousands of people test it for free and gripe about it on a forum!

Still it is Beta. I expect a lot more information to be added as when I go to the shipyard or outfitting and get tons of information about all the goodies one can get. It's not there yet but is a basic part of the game that keeps us playing it. FD would miss a very important aspect of the game if they don't go there.

Meanwhile there are hits on the controllers and trying to modify the settings in the game. Let's work on that. So many hits I see on the forum are about the design and balance of the game versus working to make it stable. These inputs are great but FD has already decided how the game will be played thus design and balance won't be changed much unless someone comes up with something they totally missed.

Welcome to Beta testing. Now go out there and break the game so it will work great in the final release.

I never got to the bigger ships in previous releases, but for what I played of beta1, I think the progress at the beginning of the game is well balanced: it took me two days playing casually to upgrade to a hauler, which seems reasonable to me. I believe a new player should be able to upgrade from the starter ship to something more specialized for his chosen path (e.g. hauler for trading or eagle for combat) relatively easy; further upgrades should be exponentially harder though, top of the line/bigger ships should be really hard to get. Also equipment should play a role, as of now the only upgrade path is changing ship altogether, I would expect in the final game that even a Cobra with top equipment should be a deadly opponent - but it will be really hard to get to it, potentially even harder than changing ship.
The major problem right now is that trading is clearly more profitable than any other activity, but this will of course change.

Nah. :) I'm proud already...don't need it to be harder! I don't have tons of time to sink into grinding money. :p

Yep...I'm also happy with the way it is at the moment. :)

I was just wondering if it will be staying this way. But I guess no one knows... :D

There are a ton of profitable trade routes. Though I haven't found any more profitable than the Progenitor Cells from PB2 (1.5k profit per item). So I really don't think there is any issue that I have seen. But maybe there are some crazy 10k profit per item routes out there.:eek::D

At the moment there isn't anything to do other than just make money really. Only the trading (and some combat) parts of the game are in. Once we get more content there will be more risks to take, like exploration.

You also have to remember that hauling cargo is already quite risky. If you make a mistake and crash you can loose everything. That's even before people start shooting at you.

...and over and over and over and over...

That's what Elite is... :)

And the marketing department thinks virtual trading sells space combat games?

If you aren't in a hauler or a freighter , you are NOT going to make any money in this game.... at a considerable rate anyway.

I agree that it's pretty easy to make a lot of money... if you have a lot of time. I imagine there will be people that will only get the chance to play this game for a few hours a week if they're busy people. The game should be fun for those people as well, they shouldn't have to spend their first month of play grinding for credits so they can get the fun ships, weapons, and equipment.

The game needs to be fun and entertaining throughout the process, and yes the better ships and weapons should be considerably more expensive, but honestly, the grind from sidewinder to hauler to cobra is too, well, grind-y.

I think that the lack of variety in profit sources is what makes it this way at the moment. Trading, pirating, and bounty hunting are the only money makers in the game, with pirating and bounty hunting being much less profitable and reliable than trading. More and better pirates will help making trading less profitable, as well as increase the amount of targets for bounty hunters.

The eventual additions of mining and exploration should also help increase variety in profit sources, and make it less of a grind and more simply playing and enjoying the game.

I'm planning to trade until I'm cruising around in an LT9 with enough wedge to buy a fully pimped out anaconda.
Then I'll probably pimp out a viper or cobra (probably the cobra, if only for the jump range) with big guns and hard armour to go play in the war zones.

So far I've managed to get a hauler and then a cobra, and hope to be on an LT6 soon.

I just feel sorry for those that believe getting as much credits as possible is the meaning of the game. They don't understand the sandbox concept but have a narrow linear way of thinking of just one goal.

Let me ask you, what IS the meaning of the game? :) Why do you play?

^^ exactly...

I got toasted in a pimped out MKIII in an anarchy zone earlier. Was kinda bummed coz it was a pretty long old grind but it was actually a top result because i got back in the Sidey and fell in love with it.

The view out of the canopy in the little Sidey is just mindblowing, totally clear zenithal aperture gives you stunning space vistas.

On topic - Its not hard to make cash but it DOES take time. Make no mistake. Even with the BPC i still had to do some pretty hefty grinding to bag a pimped out MKIII.

Ultimately its not about the money. Forget the loot and enjoy the beauty of travelling at magnificent speeds around the galaxy.
