Elite Dangerous and China

Microsoft will launch the Xbox One, on September 23 in China. After thirteen years of embargo, China decided earlier this year to allow foreign companies to market their video game consoles in the country. ED begins to be translated on the PC (for the beta) in simplified Chinese. Frontier is a partner of Microsoft. ED will be developed on XBox One ? The Chinese will love ED ...

:D

The thing about the Chinese community is they are as tight knit as grandma's scarf.
If you don't speak Chinese , well they don't speak anything else either cos there's 1.3 billion of them inland.

Luckily for us , they probably haven't heard of Elite yet.

i don't think, at this stage, Frontier plans on bringing ED to XBOne... Maybe after the PC version is done, but not "soon"

I don't really understand why every PC exclusive with success needs to be ported to consoles.

Also at this time (and for obvious reasons) the PC is the major gaming platform on China.

Whenever I read about games being released in China I think of security. Guild Wars 2 is a recent example, as soon as it was released in China my account got hacked (THE DAY IT WAS RELEASED WHILE I WAS PLAYING).

This just gets me a little on edge thinking about it. I would hope for authenticator tokens or something like that, I know Google has a free one.

Makes for a case of hermetically separated communities. I know how Xenophobic it sounds though, there was a really bad period in online gaming, with separated economic zones, when we were not allowed to play with our US buddies. I was on the front line raging against that. But this is a slightly different market, as you say, where the glorious unified Earth might not work in a practical sense.

Will just for measure reiterate that such separation in many cases is an abomination destined to spoil our enjoyment. So it is a matter of how to apply common sense, and not take the cynical road, or the naive road. Just the one that makes us the least unhappy. :D

Let's just say it would be good for FD to make plenty enough money to develop Elite into crazy levels of detail and multiple game styles.

My two lifetime expansion passes would then make me very happy.

IP protection and politics are other topics, but don't think they belong in this forum.

Umm. What?

Do you not understand economics? Selling more stuff on more markets makes more money. Tribal association means nothing when your business is selling software.
