Community Event / Creation BRC/TWH present: Hermaszewski Celebration Race

And I won't until someone has beaten me or the race ends, because I'm a selfish ***This word got censored. Insert a suitable one of your own choice ***!

Ah! And you really think I'll give that up to you *that* easily?

No because, if you really think so, we are two at least. :p

More seriously, I'm longing to put in some new efforts (those two runs were also the scouting ones pretty much), but I've a lot of RL stuff to take care of these days (sadly), so no ETA, no promises.

Google translate is our friend. Whatever you are writing, it turns it into something funny!

A funny game I used to make some years ago (not sure how Google's translation alghoritms may have improved), write any kind of random but coherent sentence, then translating to another language, then another, then back to the original one, than back to another and so on, the more the better...most of the time, the ending result looked surreal like the written equivalent of a Dalì painting. Incredibly fun stuff. For a nerd, at least. :D

Hope you find the time! It's fun being chased for once instead of chasing you!

I can imagine. Some years ago I tried to translate a text in chemistry from Korean to English. I still remember "take four sheeps until they dilute the mangan mountain knife"

Exactly that! Makes as much sense as a clock dripping from a table, isn't it? :D

Oh my... So this is what happened: I decided to put the VR on, hoping for a better result in that. And it worked. What an excellent run! Then, on the approach to the final station (back in the starting system, after making the whole lap), I got distracted and had a closer look at some character portraits in the top panel. Overshot. Loop of shame, no biggie, I thought, couple of seconds added to my run. Still a great one. Then I wanted to position my ship in the front of the station and I was approaching it at a very low angle in relation to the planet... Got smacked into the Orbital Cruise zone - going to fast, FSD cooldown there is about 30 secs I think.

Whole run wasted :D

Gotta love Buckyball races :D

Can I be the first to congratulate cookiehole on his set of 10 elite themed coasters :D

LOL - beat me to it.

In other news ... YES! I finally managed to defeat my own muscle memory and successfully refueled my way around the Adder class circuit. Now all I need to do is figure out Polly's "go-faster" strategy ... almost certainly something to do with fuel .. and route plotting ... and going faster.

Run submitted and introducing The IKEA Meatball!

Absolutely, used to love doing this!

OK, so after translating through Arabic, Chinese, Esperanto, Afrikans and Japanese we get ...

Oh, I ... that is what happened: I decided to get away, hoping to get better results. effective. What a good series! Then, on the way to the final point (after returning to the first system, after a full turn), I attracted some of the above personal photos. It is not an innocent cycle a few seconds after my patio surpassing, I do not think it is Peggy. I took a ship to the station and approached the planet at a very low angle. I fell asleep in a tropical cross. Immediately, I think the damage was delayed for 30 seconds.

What I want to know is ... who the hell is Peggy, why was the tropical cross so soporific and can we have some personal photos of this patio please?

Edit: I think I've found a photo of Peggy!

Bah, don't tell me about falling asleep in a tropical cross. Happens every. single. time.
And don't get me started on attracting personal photos after making full turns even, it's about time FD does something to address that!

Hope that is from a Free For All run, 'cause in the Adder class rules for outfitting are clear: no racks equipped!
Think I'll grab the coat, thank you all.

Last night proved a typical start to my campaign. My Adder was delivered back to my home station. I outfitted it to race spec and then I bookmarked all the waypoints. During which I found that I didn't have system data for 2 of the systems so I fitted an ADS and set off to scan them before heading to the race start.

12 jumps later I arrived at the first system, honked and opened the system map to bookmark the station....no Hermaszewski station [where is it] I checked the local base list in case it was a planet base, nope.

A quick check of the thread and my location revealed my error. I had flown to the Serra system instead of the Serre system [knocked out]

After another 10-12 jumps I was back on track at the right system. I scanned the 2 systems I needed to and parked at Arthaiyati. Hopefully I will get time to do an initial run tonight.

Just wanted to say, it's great seeing all the new faces faces turning up for this race.

The Buckyball Racing Club has been hosting typically at least one race per month for several years now. Although they all typically follow a similar model (racing over the course of a week or so, submitting screenshots or video as evidence to the race organiser) each one differs in a variety of interesting ways (e.g. bonuses for running without shields, use of planetary bases and/or co-ordinates as waypoints, options to visit stations in any order thereby introducing a route planning element, use of the SRV, flying through installation tunnels, etc, etc).

We have a website at http://buckyballracing.org.uk/ which drakhyr endeavours to keep up to date with a timetable of forthcoming events.

We also try to always post a link to the next race thread at the end of the last race thread so simply stay subscribed to this thread and keep an eye out for new posts after the race has finished to spot these.

Lastly, myself (and several other regulars) tend to update our forum signatures with new race banners that can be clicked through to new race threads so keep an eye out for these. In particular, I will always do this and will also promote any new BRC race in my "Best of Forum" thread so keep an eye out there too if you're keen to take part in future events.

o7 and fly fast commanders!

Thx*, but I guess 5 would be enough :p
Unfortunately I don't have a lot of spare time at the moment, so I won't be able to do many runs (which probably means I'll do only one class anyway). But I might be able to do a run (or two) tomorrow hopefully :)

* Preliminary analysis suggests the likelihood for that to be lower than the statistical average; I basically haven't raced for a month (not counting Yggdrasil here, as the Vulture and Python runs were more of a jaunt :D)

Time to bring you up to date...

In Free For All, we see a few more returning veterans. First up is Cmdr Stern Winter in the Asp Explorer Polar Express. Despite fighting a few technical problems with his ship's controls, Stern Winter has taken over the title of "fastest non-DBX", with a time of just over 34 minutes. Two places further up the board, Cmdr Inodoro Pereyra decided to switch to the common choice of ship, namely the Diamondback Explorer. Doing so enabled him to achieve an improvement of more than five minutes in Eulogia Bis compared to his previous Asp Explorer time.

However the real news in this class is the arrival in style of Cmdr Bruski. In his veteran racing ship, the Diamondback Explorer RazorBear, Bruski set a blistering pace to take the lead in this class by over a minute from Cmdr Polly. Can Polly find the form she found in the Adder to retake top spot from Bruski? Only time will tell.

The Adders have seen more action, including some commanders submitting times that won't appear on the board because I didn't manage an update yesterday and they've gone faster since :)

In the second half of the board we welcome a number of new racers. Cmdr Letchferrit in ThunderBus and Cmdr MaccyC in Lawn Dart mk4 were racing at the same time over on PS4, with Cmdr Letchferrit (MrLeighV) coming out a couple of minutes ahead, probably in large part to Cmdr MaccyC's unplanned game of space station pinball! Splitting the two was Cmdr Ray Mobula in Wumpus - The Hunter, who actually completed the course slightly faster but incurred a time penalty for incorrect scrutineering evidence. With Ray Mobula also reporting technical ship control problems, all three must be feeling the one hour mark calling; with nearly three days to go there's still time to improve, commanders!

Just ahead of those three is Cmdr RazNaRok in INV Wilczur. RazNaRok obviously did feel the frustration of getting just over an hour on his first submission, returning with an improvement of over three minutes to end up with a time of just under 59 minutes.

Towards the upper end of the leaderboard, Cmdr Kriztozz originally had me thinking he'd taken an extremely scenic route, but it turned out to just be a typo on the entry form with Wielki H actually completing the course in a very respectable 47 minutes and 32 seconds. Just over a minute ahead is Cmdr Alec Turner, whose practice in The IKEA Meatball* has seen him close to within 30 seconds of Aken B.'s time. However Alec's hopes of securing a podium spot have been scuppered for now by newcomer Cmdr Arnul, who it appears may have some insight into the secret's of Polly's approach that have so far eluded Alec. Arnul's Adder Dyskoteka w Remizie has partied its way to second place (for now) in a very impressive 45 minutes and 10 seconds.

* It was reported that this ship's name had been changed to Peggy's Patio, but for now I've gone with the name she was actually carrying during the attempt.

The Adder will need quite a bit of fuel management for a top placing. I spent considerable time and effort optimising a route. That time would have been better spent reading the part of the rules that says that you have to visit the stations in a given order.
