Help! How do I locate a space station?

Ok, maybe I'm missing something here, I'm buying goods in one station to take to another to trade but there doesn't seem to be any way to locate space stations on the map?
Am I missing something blindingly obvious or do I have to scoosh around until I bump into one?

There's at least one in each system but they're not shown in the Galaxy map... Stations appear in the left hand menu when you're in the current system. Remote stations aren't shown.

The orrery isn't in yet.
In the galactic map and inhabited system will have a station.
When you hyperjump to that system is will show in the left hand navigation maneu, just scroll down until you see it. It will be obvious, honestly.
Now you are locked on to it, fly to it.
Keep clear of the sun, and don't go too fast. A quick search on SuperCruise will see you right.

Now that I have figured this out can someone please tell me why I cannot get docking permission anywhere? I have done three quests and I get to 3 different stations (the last one was Aulin). In each one there has been no option for requesting docking. All I have for an option is lock target or unlock target. I can fly in and get the 400 fine but no permissions is annoying me. PLEASE tell me what I am doing wrong. RSI doesn't have my M50 in the hanger yet so I guess I am off to Hearthstone for a bit.

Just checking - but you are on the contacts screen aren't you when you do this? As on that screen you should have a lock and request docking option for any stations.
Yes I am on that screen and I slowly creep right up to the entrances with no option other than to unlock. I cycle lock, unlock and the those have been the only options. I will drink a few pints and try it later.
