On a serious note, I do think many of people who moderate are somewhat "biased", as their almost religious devotion to the game and the developers feels a bit over-the-top to me. However, I've never been censored by any moderator because of a negative post unless it violated one of the forum rules - not that I can recall, anyway.

I have been told to "quit the game and find something else to play" by someone with a blue name and moderator badge. Supposedly they are not moderators except when they are, and I find this confusing... After all, Clark Kent is Superman under his disguise.

So perhaps a moderator can explain how this "I'm a moderator" vs "I'm just a player like you" dichotomy actually works.

Ok, not a mod, but: when they post as moderators then they are enforcing the rules of the forum (sometimes by attempting to de-escalate a situation that might otherwise result in the ban hammer for someone).
When they post without the mod hat on then they are just posting their opinions, same as we are.

It's actually pretty easy
Only name blue - Player like you
Whole post blue - moderator

And as for the "quit the game and find something else to play" part, isn't it possible that you were perhaps a little non-constructive in the debate and your complaint came out as a whining? Just guessing here, but that's how I react, too.
If the tone of the post is - I like this game but I think X and Y could use some improvement, perhaps something like Z (constructive post with useful feedback), my reaction usually is, "yeah, he's got the point".
While if the tone of the post is - This game sucks, why am I even here?, my reaction tends to be "yeah, why ARE you still here?"

Maybe mods, as fans of the game, have similar view on this? Only they have to deal with it twelve times a day, instead once a week, like me? I'd cut them a little slack. ;)

So when they tell someone to just give up hope of things getting better and in their expert opinion can judge exavtly what ye like and dont like 5 years from now with mod hat on...what does that say? Are the modes gifted with pyschic ability? Can they give us next weeks lottery numbers too?

That statement was made with mod hat on...so is it safe to assume thats the official line at frontier? Things wont get any better so just leave and go play something else right now? Old duck brought it up and I was there too because I was the one the mod was telling that to.

So if one takes the mods words right, frontier are claiming things will get better but one particular mod says things wont get better and players need to just move on. Its just a funny thing fer a mod to say and it was posted while wearing mod colours, so whats the craic with that?

That wasn't what was said, and you know it. The actual words were, it won't fundamentally change. It will still be fundamentally the same game underneath it all, no matter what they add. I also said that i think and hope it will get better. I've quite positive about the game and the new stuff that is coming.

Yes

Can they give us next weeks lottery numbers too?

No.

No it wasn't and no it isn't. It was said with flair off.

Additionally, i didn't say that to you or old duck, i addressed it to the OP of that thread. Sorry mate, there are other people on the forum.

Please do not twist my words to push your own agenda nor outright lie about things. It doesn't make you look good, its not big, and its not clever.

...my threads seem to be closed without good reason?

The UK is a free country.

You are free to post your thoughts on your own Website, but freedom doesn't mean you get to force others to post your thoughts?

Put another way, FDev is Free to decide what they allow posted on their website, and they can chose to allow comments on your posts or not - the same freedom you have with your own website.

They have answered perfectly. We are fortunate enough that we are allowed, and even encouraged, to have our own views. We are all players of the game, a fair number of us were players before we became mods. To be honest when I was asked to join I thought it was because they were fed up of me going on about Exploration and the improvements it needed all the time and it was a good way to shut me up :D But it wasn't and I am allowed to express my views just as I was before.

You sure their name was Blue and not Green? :p They're strange those lot [haha]

I know what was said and I shall reserve my own judgement thanks...not gonna argue with a mod cos it wont have a happy ending but fer someene who is so positive about things getting better, it does seem odd to contradict that by saying if players dont enjoy it now, they wont enjoy it when it gets better either.

Thats what it looks like to me...Im just asking how ye know that...how are you so sure? Im not twisting anything and I couldnt care a squat if its big or clever...Im just confused at how ye know the future of what someone else will like or not like 5 years from now and asking fer some clarification.

But as it was said as a player and not a mod, it can be ignored now...whether it was said as a mod or a player was my confusion and now ye cleared that up...now it can be ignored like any other comment as thats not the official line at FD. Wouldnt be cool if they claimed things would get better but anyone not enjoying the game now should just leave because they wont enjoy it later either...that would be an incredibly dumb thing to say wouldnt it?

Isn't this like having a player on a sports team also referee the game he's playing in?

Example - Agony Aunt replies to Vermistar, "Please do not twist my words to push your own agenda nor outright lie about things. It doesn't make you look good, its not big, and its not clever." If Aunt gets irritated enough with Vermistar, Aunt can make Vermistar's posts disappear or lock the thread, whereas Vermistar does not have this option available to him.

I'm not suggesting Aunt would do this, I'm just pointing out the potential of something like this happening in the "moderators are also active posters with opinions" setup of the forum. I've had my posts "disappear" before when debating someone with a moderator tag... Just saying.

If this ever happened, can you imagine the riots in the streets? :D

Plus, and please mods correct me if I'm wrong, but as I said earlier, they have a rule that when a moderator joins the discussion, they CANNOT moderate said thread. So it would have to be a conspiracy of at least two moderators. And Brett would have to be on vacation.

I think that if you feel you've been badly treated by a Mod then you are supposed to contact BretC who will then look into it.

No, not remotely.

Also moderators are subject to the same forum rules as any other user, their posts can be reported if you think they cross the line. We also are not allowed moderate threads we are active in. If you think your posts have been deleted for no reason other than who you are having a discussion with, then you need to raise you concerns with Brett through the official channel.

Edit* Double ninja'd :p

It would be incredibly dumb for FD to say something like that. Fortunately i'm not an FD employee and free to express my thoughts as long as they don't break forum rules and as long as i'm not moderating a thread.
