Alien archaeology and other mysteries: Breaking News, Theories and Tinfoil Hattery

We may have found something on the Thargoid Data Gathering Thread, but we need more "boots on the ground" to gather more data.

Anyone at a loose end and looking to prove/disprove something that might be important in understand the Thargoids, head on over here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...d-your-help!?p=6140490&viewfull=1#post6140490 and read down to get the idea. It would be great if you could also grab LCU's EDMC plugin from the front page too.

Basically it's this:

People have always assumed NHSS appear throughout the 150-ish LY shell centred on Merope - with one exception, Merope has no NHSS spawns.

Yesterday we realised it's not just Merope, it appears to be several surrounding systems as well - apparenty creating a small "dead Zone" bubble approx 10ly in radius right at the centre of the UA shell.

A few of us have managed to spend some hours trying to find NHSS in several of these systems, but there's 24 we need to check in total, plus getting verification on the ones we've checked already. We're working under the rule that if no NHSS appear within 30-40 minutes of constant SC in a system, you can scratch it off the list and call it a Dead Zone.

Once we've figured out which systems are "dead Zones" we want to try to figure out why - so far the dead zones appear... random. Some have a huge human population (relatively), at least one has an AEGIS base, at least two are empty of all planets, etc.

I'll work on that as soon as I get home, will let you know what I find

Anyone remember if there was a Beige Patrol on the Electra landables? Getting quite tempted as I can also look for fumeroles, so hopefully someone already did it and I can just walk away :)

Food for origin-of-inspiration conspiracy, I found this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tharg_the_Mighty

Tharg was the "host" of a British comic series, 2000AD, starting in 1977 and lasting a long time. He was a green alien from Quaxxan (caughraxxlacaugh). He has a red symbol/device on his head, the "Rosette of Sirius." He eats polystyrene cups (witchdrive uses or is made of poylmers).

I know the tale of Thargoids on a radio show being "reptilian" elites, but that can't be the sole source of obvious inspiration. Also, what is it with England and Tharg-? THA-tcher, Ma-RG-aret?

The name "Thargoid" had it's origins in the 70's : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Kremmen

Robert Holdstock who wrote TDW, Under the pseudonym Steven Eisler contributed to this in 1980: http://ski-ffy.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/alien-world-complete-illustrated-guide.html if you scroll a bit you'll see the name Raxxla, and a word that's pretty similar to Oresrian "Oriathan". Since Holdstocks TDW influenced much of the mythos of ED, he's responsible for some of the names :)

I do love the reference to Thatcher though. I suspect Everett might have named his reptilian enemies because of that, and if not, I bet he's looking down on us now wishing he'd through of it :) Nice work!

Dump question but someone may have checked this before I do

Do the Thargoid Resin, Biological and Technological samples act as rare goods with an Origin of the Merope area?

As I noticed that have a very high Galactic Market average of half a million or there about but only sell for ~20000 in the Aegis Black Markets

Do they sell for much more back in the Core systems?

Dump question but someone may have checked this before I do .... - - C U T - - -

Was nerfed / bricked since the change from "Unknown" to "Thargoid".
Example "Unknown Biological Matter" Sell 542.718Cr Galactic Average 25.479Cr at 03.Jul 3302 @Bunda, Faraday Ring.
Today it is more or less exact the othter way arround ...
QA presented by FDEV. Or another genius synaptic jump from the lead game designer.

Only "Palin Missions" in Maia pay well. Nerf incomming for sure (via mission design, price or change situation @ crashed thargoid scout ship)
Abandon all hope .. We dont will get nice "non combat" gameplay in the current constellation.

Biscuits for all!

Hmm, thought I had tried this, but looking at the eddb data it only has prices in two stations (!) - and neither are what we see from the in-game market:

https://eddb.io/station/market/52712
https://eddb.io/station/market/20088

Might have to try hawking some of these around the bubble - Looks like Jmanis doesn't use EDMC or I'd have expected far more markets to have been infected ;)

Nope.

I shipped some all the way to Colonia. As you can see, they sell for pretty much the same. Besides that, I've sold plenty in the bubble for the same as well.

This angle got tried with the Unknown Artefact (Thargoid Sensor) a loooong time ago as well. They function just like normal commodities.

Umm, I am sure it is completely unrelated to anything going on here, but for those who are interested, the Formidine Rift thread seems to be unlocked again. I suspect a conspiracy...

‘They’ have found that closing the Rift thread lead to a bit to much focus on Raxxla. ;)
