Star Citizen Discussions v7

I wonder what access control there will be to ship holds on landing pads. Could a goonswarm incapacitate a ship by filling the cargo hold beyond max takeoff mass? Every box the pilot removes, they add 5, like some insane Mickey Mouse in the Sorceror's Apprentice type thing?

They can also block doors, not letting out without using weapons, making you drop cargo, then stealing your cargo.

While it sounds exciting to some, it is nightmare to balance and good question it is even worth it.

edit: and granted, this is an issue for any game implementing space legs at such free roam style, so good question how to approach and balance it.

Not to mention, if unsecured cargo could damage the ship with maneuvers would one really want to board a ship filled with small boxes of unsecured cargo?

- How badly can unsecured cargo damage a ship?
- How deadly can small boxes be
- What is the effect of spinning the ship like a centrifuge with hostiles on board mixed with lots of small cargo boxes

Would be hilarious in finding ships filled to the brim with cargo and watch them tear themselves apart while trying to dogfight.

I've never seen or worked out what happens if a Commando is stood looking at the landing pad where a ship will appear once requested. Does the ship just magically pop into view?

Yeah, dissing SC aside, what are their 'delivery ship to platform' mechanic? I haven't seen any. Does AI land it for you? Ohhhh my....

SC is basically ganking paradise, isn't it?

Interesting question. I saw no mention of cargo being secured. Once in space, those boxes would simply start floating around.

Yes, yes it will be.

There was that leaked 3.0 vid when a commando went to his ship, turned around, looked back at the ship and it was a different model, then did it again. Three different ships. [haha]

That is one of the very first of the reasons why I started to become very skeptical and cynical about this project...

You know, trolls can easily dump crates to block miles eackhart from the rest of commandos in the 1st day 3.0 arrived, nevermind blocking the commandos, I can see the trolling act causing the server to crash given how fragile the whole game seem to be.

I think it does, similar to placing it in the hangar.

I mean, there are no interior hangars or lifts like in ED.

Magnets, how do they work?

You would have to have super duper magnets to make it plausable. I would like strapings too, but I get that might be unnecessary detail.

Anyway, all this certainly isn't jab only at SC, it is good and interesting thought excercise how to solve such gameplay dilemmas. And CIG will have to figure them out and implement them.

Yeah, it was more of a joke, but if they can handwavium a jump capable ship the size of a BMW, they'll explain the box thing away with something.

Dont ships in SC simply have local artificial gravity? I mean, commando's dont fly all over the ship either, right?

gravity is different from Inertia.
When ship move, box will start to move everywhere even if there is artificial gravity.
They would need inertial dampers, like in star trek.
