geyser, volcanism and fumarole help needed!

I have recently been exploring planets as a part of my 'to-do' list (crashed ships, barnacles, guardians and many more) but I yet to see any natural beauty in Elite.

So far no luck with any of the three in the title. I have watched videos, but none so far actually describe patterns on where to find them.

Patterns like;

-what type of planets do they form on? (High metal, rocky, icy, rock-ice etc.)
-how far from nearest star (I imagine heat would be a huge factor in pressure build up???)
- do they form near valleys, mountains, plains, creators?
and any other information would be very useful!

Any help would be appreciated!

Simple set of rules:
- the smallest moons possible (450 km or less)
- the closest/fastest orbit possible (preferably 1 day, or less)
- look for the most discolored, deepest canyons
- if you don't find anything within an hour, just leave

Have fun, it is very rewarding to find these things.
I forgot to mention: there is a lower limit of ice worlds in terms of size as those are lighter (less dense) than metallic/rocky worlds (and apparently the Stellar Forge considers mass as hard limit), so you'll not find tiny icy moons. With ice worlds the general rule is to look a relatively small one (I guess 6-700 km) that has less canyons limiting the area of possible sites.

I recently found a 333KM potato which (according to EDDI at least) was a hotbed of "major vulcanism" (silicate vapour I think), but I spent two fruitless, soul-crushing hours cruising around that small rock trying to find anything remotely geyser-ish.

I'd love to know the secret of successfully finding volcanic hot spots on moons - I've about 40 candidates bookmarked within a 45Ly radius of my current position but I'm really struggling to work up the patience to do any searching after that 333KM waste of time.

You have been unlucky
If EDSM shows Major Vulcanism then it is usually found in the canyons after a bit of searching. I think the advice to move on after an hour is a good idea!

If there are loads of canyons, it can be a struggle even on small moons.
I'm usually flying about 2-3 km high, and look for the "smoking gun". As the terrain generates, usually you can spot a bit of plume way above the fumaroles themselves. Having said that, sometimes it is easy to miss them.

I thought I'd found steam plumes any number of times but on closer inspection, it was only discolouration on the moon's surface... and there weren't really any canyons, just a couple of tall mountains - I scoured every inch of them, I swear, all to no avail.

It was quite an interesting world otherwise, it was in a very close orbit with its neighbouring moon, to the point where the neighbour filled a good quarter of the sky.

As for the OP, some good suggestions in here as well. Sometimes luck just isn't on your side though. Major Sites are the ones that will give you the best chance in finding these things but again, sometimes the planet just wins. I spent a few hours on a smallish body the other day to no avail, but sometimes the one hour rule can be stretched, sometimes right when you are about to give up you give it one more shot and then bing, bang, boom you have yourself a find. keep up the work, it can get boring at times and become a pain but some of these sites are in some amazing locations and it makes the search worth it. Now to toot my own thread, yes visit it, there are some good videos and tips that have been shared since these guys were implemented a little over a year ago. Still some secret organic sites left to find as well so keep your eye out for anything a bit strange...

Indeed, And sometimes luck is on your side, once I was exiting glide, the site was just in front of me.

I had no luck with organics so far, AFAIK those can be found in/around nebulae.
Since I just left the bubble for good, I will certainly look for new volcanic sites.

My main Goal is to find all the variations of volcanism (Ammonia, silicate and Iron) as well as the Geyser And Fumarole types (Silicate, Water, water vapour and CO2) And of course, to have these sites discovered by me first for a change

Once I have I will then post the list on the forums. all my locations I would like to have within a 100Ly radius if I can...

Only problem is, I have no clue what I am actually looking for, geysers are visible from 15k (apparently) as a cloud. I have no clue what the others look like though...
