Star Citizen Discussions v7

Honest question.. is there a film grain filter on the whole game? The inside shots when the avatar is looking at the dashboard looks.. weird, like someone fed it to instagram with an "Aliens" filter. Also please tell me by now you can switch that annoying motion blur off.

Not sure if a film grain filter is on since im still installing it (gimme a few days) but apparently motion blur can be turned off in options.

Yeah, same reason I haven't tried anything since 2.3 or whatever the last version was.. my current internet is so bad it'd take a week to download 80GB :D

I wonder what this was all about? The Content has been removed from Discord now. Sometimes hard to anticipate if it will be (or was) something interesting or an unnecessary "drama". https://twitter.com/dsmart/status/933886476437413888?s=17

I am sure, if it was interesting somebody already have a backup, if no -> its was drama in DS style...

I noticed it on another stream https://www.twitch.tv/videos/203571771?t=05h12m00s and I was wondering if it was just some weird capture artefact, but to see it there as well, it really looks as if the handcrafted parts are floating relative to the rest of the planet. Is that the lauded 64bit precision in action?

Haha, you got me.
I was squinting at that on the SC Reddit last night. Literally no idea what would make something do that (note it seems to swim with head movement, not planet rotation). Kind of hoping it really is just something weird with the video compression, but it really looks like that one asset has something wrong with it.

Maybe those buildings went to the Rise of the Triad school of walls ;) http://www.eeggs.com/images/items/1814.full.jpg

LOL, just realized, they are using the same power management system as ED. Bottom right of the ship HUD, weapons, shields, thrust.

That model and location goes all the way back to X-Wing. It does the job perfectly for an arcadish space-sim imho, and a lot of players will be familiar with the compromises it offers, so I don't see any good reason for ED/SC to change it just for the sake of being different.

Actually, you only need a watch, and a paper chart.

What happened to radio navigation? Doesn't need maps neither. Just the frequencies. And a proper flight plan.

Pfff. Shields. True pilots flew Tie Fighter!

Have to admit the planets look very atmospheric, jump to about 33 minutes https://www.twitch.tv/videos/203630509##

Do you know what the first thing that struck me about when the player entered "greenhouse" or whatever it was called? (at 34:58)

They had plants growing in horizonally orientated cylinders.

Now, this is a brilliant design for growing plants in a zero-G environment. Problem is that Star Citizen has ubiquitous artificial gravity, so that design is completely superfluous. Plus they weren't rotating, so the main benefit for putting them in a cylinder is completely ignored.

This game is going to be mercilessly torn apart by players for whom "fidelity" isn't just a cool buzzword.

Give me a ping, Vasili. One ping only, please.

Sorry Ben, it's >1 asset.
It's beautifully rendered wibbly, though. :)

Yeah no- they have to reinvent every wheel- not just a couple. C'mon focus, here- we're pushing the boundaries of groundbreaking development...

You need a chart also though so you know where the navaids are - however, NDBs and VORs are being withdrawn around the world and being replaced by GPS. They'll likely all be gone in 5 years time.

Sure, but that's - again - wasn't that was hinted during KS period. As gameplay design it makes perfect sense. Question is that is it what was promised by CIG.

All of the buildings around Levski seem to vibrate/jiggle on the ground - it's really odd. I've noticed it on all the streams I've watched so far - pick any random building, head towards it a bit, then stop - the building is shuddering left/right. So it seems to affect virtually everything rather than a single asset.

To be fair, ED has similar issue now and then with connecting PG surface with placed buildings, not at such crazy extend though. Things to improve I guess.

Watching that stream with avatar, cargo and base...feels useless at this point. Needs way more meat before calling it alpha. Graphics/lighting in housing looks solid, so thumbs up for rendering team there.

It also gives strange feeling that while it kinda makes me wanting space legs, however gameplay have to be very, very solid, otherwise it will get tedious, boring and not worth it.
