Money and Friends

Hey folks,

Apologies in advance if this has already been covered in another topic. I have done a search but couldn't find anything relating to this but, does anyone know if it is yet possible to share the spoils of trading and piracy on a money basis?

I play much of the game at the moment in the Private Group setting, with about 6-7 other guys in the game with me. Some of us make a living being a pirate and others, myself included, love trading. I was wondering if it is yet possible to share your credits with another player.

I know this is usually an MMO type thing to do, and Elite doesn't really follow that same routine, but if it is possible, I'd like to help a friend grab some new hardpoints a little easier.

And please, don't tell me to "play the game properly" or "he should earn his own money". It's just a question and I like sharing.

Thanks in advance guys,

Happy Trails

Can you buy cargo, jettison it near your friend (away from station or you'll be fined) and he can scoop and sell it?

Never tried myself, and I think I've heard 'stolen' cargo is a thing so if anyone else can advise on this it'd be appreciated.

You can buy stuff and jettison it away from the station for them to pick it up.

During P.Beta some were buying gold and dumping it. The cargo is listed as stolen so they'll have to avoid the police and sell it on the black market, but it is possible to do.

They might also want to investigate the unidentified beacons which SC'ing. Sometimes you find cargo at them.

However... sometimes the cargo is a trap laid by (NPC) pirates...

Yeah, I've noticed that recently myself. I can't for the life of me remember the system name, but there is a particular system that has Unidentified Signals nearby that have gold floating around. The amount can range from 1-7 units of cargo, but it appears to be more likely to hit trouble if there are more units floating around.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who has suggested stuff. You've all been really helpful. It's a nice community here.

Thanks again!

Nobody knows if it's a planned feature ????
And how if I want to sell my escort service to a player ?

It is planned - player to player credit transactions will be implemented:

Player to Player Trading
  • Players can trade directly with each other
    • The player trade interface is available when both players are docked at the same market
    • The player trade interface is available when two players dock ships
  • The player trade interface is a secure swap allowing players to transfer credits/cargo
    • Both players must accept the trade before it occurs
      • Acceptance must be redone by both parties after any change in the trade
    • Trading occurs in real-time and can be interrupted (for example by being attacked) unless taking place at a space dock
    • Either player can cancel the trade at any time up to the point both agree

Currently all market trade goods are registered. So simply giving him cargo in a lawful system will result in him being scanned and convicted for receiving stolen goods, punishable by death.

Head to Freeport, (an Anarchy system) buy some Gold and dump it for your friend to scoop up and sell back on the blackmarket. (at only 40% of actual value) So be prepared to hand over a lot more than your friend will receive.
Also, you might want to consider doing this in a private server. ;)

I'll help out if you want ... just let me know when and where you're doing the transfer and I'll hang back and make sure you don't get attacked by any pirates ;)

I'm nice like that :D

I hope goldsellers will stay away from this game ! Or I will pirate their cargo to prevent that !

I think there has been some mention by the developers that they may set up in-game credit purchase with real world cash, using (I assume) the FD web storefront. The main reason would be to stop, or at least severely limit gold farming. No reason to buy from a gold farmer if FD is selling you the credits directly.

I don't love the idea, personally, but it seems to have worked in a few other MMO's and it's better for FD to get the cash for future development, since it will happen anyway. It opens the door to someone just buying their way into a top-tier ship without earning it in-game, but on the other hand, this is a skill-based game so that's not as big an advantage as it might seem. You can't buy combat skill in this game.
