PvP Presumptive PvP'er

So I'm farming data missions in Sothis/Ceos....I know, I know. But I can't be bothered anymore. Two years in game "just playing" and still don't have rank for a Corvette so I just decided to park it here until I do. 17% Post Captain, so almost there...anyhow.

Over the weekend, I take a follow-on mission to pop some pirate lord or the other for a couple million but it's at one of the planets about 135Kly's from the central star. So I start heading out that way only to notice a hollow triangle swoop around behind me...no worries, I'm in a fairly beefy Python but I'm rubbish at PvP combat so I'm hoping he leaves me be. He's definitely on my tail and following me, but I'm out pacing him. He finally catches up to me as I reach the 00:00:07 second mark on the planet and so I drop out of SC, wait, hop back into SC, he gets on my 6, hop out of SC.....the whole cat and mouse bit. This goes on for a fair few minutes and finally, he interdicts me and I decide, what the heck? Let's give ole boy a shot.

Only trouble is...as far as he's concerned...I have "report crimes" turned on. More on that in a second...

Conflict begins and I'm holding my own (managing not to get fragged), but not really doing much damage to him. Then the cops show up.

Dude immediately high wakes and sends friend request and subsequent messages about how I'm a lady part for having "report crimes" on and that...this was the presumptive part...."1v1 means no cops"

I'm sorry? I was PvE'ing myself silly when you had to go and chase me all over the bleeper blankingsystem....and now I'm supposed to have turned off "report crimes" too? Because apparently we're all out for a bit of PvP but just don't know it yet?

Am I missing something or am I just not blazing the correct trail?

If he can't take a joke, fork him.

the fact he pulled you out of SC means he forfeited any right to complain.

If it was a pre arranged fight fair enough. If you pulled him out of SC maybe.
But him pulling you out of SC? Pfft. Get lost mate

Didn't you get the email?????:S

[Paraphrasing]
If you play in open, That means you have agreed to consensual PvP.
Now you are a PvPer, You should know to turn off "report crimes".

Always in open, Report crimes on

;)

If this tale is anything more than forum rep seeking, then speaking as a PvP player, he can go do one.

If he wanted a l337 1v1mebro, shoulda asked someone that can put up a fight. If he wanted to kill something less skilled, shouldn't complain when the cute little cops get in his way.

Reminds me when I wanted to test new features in the beta (2.2 iirc) and someone always interdicted me. Several times in a row. He in a Cobra, me in a Corvette. Told him to leave me alone, but no. Gave him a few shots, but no (well, that's obvious). So I switched to solo.

Now I am a combat logger on YouTube :D
Not only that, worse, I am a combat logger in a beta!!!

There are thargoids, humans and PvP'ers out there. Canonn studies the thargoids, you and me, we seem to study the PvP players ;)

Funny, its not like the cops will do anything other than take one ring of his shields. What was he so worried about?

I'm a pvp pirate and never expect my customers to have crimes off. However, if at a CG and get pulled by a combat ship I absolutely expect them to be crimes off. It's kind of an unwritten code among PvPers.

If you were in PvE mode then you did nothing wrong and the guy was a jerk for insulting you for crimes.

I am pretty much always crimes off. NPC cops can't really do anything anyways.

Wow, that guy was being absolutely ridiculous. He was chasing you and trying to get you and complained that the cops showed up??? Pretty lame. He was just doing sour grapes for being forced to retreat.

Yep, pretty much a tough chit situation.

Too bad you couldn't have taken out his thrusters and left the cops to finish him off. That would have been justice.

That's where my head is, as well. I mean, he followed me over 100Kly's. If he was just out to jack some n3wb, why chase me? To be fair, I did have 180 tons of gold in my hold...he may have been after that...but if he was, he didn't mention it.

I don't think he was worried about anything...as I said earlier, I feel like it was a "principles" thing. It was confusing to me, too, because I got the friend request and thought "Humph, good on him. PvP gets bested by a PvE player and wants to say 'thanks for the fight'" - or something along those lines. instead it's a string of nasty messages calling me naughty names.

And the whole time all I can do is laugh that this guy has his knickers in such a twist over this.

I guess I just didn't realize that "report crimes" being off was a thing in the PvP community. I get it...I just never thought about it. I usually turn it off in HazRez sites in CG's just because it gets too crowded, but other than that, I hadn't thought (until now) of a reason to turn it off.

First off, rep for calling your victims "customers." Hilarious. Two, I see your point regarding PvP code for having "crimes off." As I just said, it hadn't occured to me until this happened that it was a thing.

And for whatever it's worth, keep up with the pirating gig. I ran across a CMDR iMaelstrom in the Pleiades a few weeks ago and it was so refreshing to be interdicted and met with a hail rather than immediate lasers and frags. Some of the best PvP experiences have cost me cargo. The worst ones always cost me credits.

So, between you and me, since no one else is listening....I only just found out last month that you can actually target the thrusters of a ship. I'd seen all these people saying things like "target the FSD," "nuke the powerplant," and the like - and I thought, "What a bunch of clever role play!"

Then I accidentally right bumpered one time too many past the contacts tab and voila. "I've yet to get very good at it, but I at least know you can do it now" said the CMDR with an EXPERT rating in combat.:x

The only people who are obligated to have Crimes turned Off are dedicated PvPers. I think some guy minding his own business in Open is obligated to use every tool in his tool box to ensure his own survival, which includes Crimes On to call in security forces for an assist and better yet scoring a sweet station kill (reverse gank), and hi waking like a whenever possible.

Heheheh.. it took me a while to get the hang of sub-system targeting. It's amazing how much easier it makes those tough fights, or how much fun you can have doing it to NPC's.
I've used it to really discourage NPC bounty hunters from bothering me without killing them - take out their weapons, take out their thrusters and leave them adrift.
