Are you guys all sporting pony & pony variant avatars what the kids nowadays call "furries?"
Not quite. The term for an MLP fan, well the adult male sort anyway, is "Brony". A clever combination of the words "bro" & "pony".
What does being a brony signify, though, to the uninitiated?

That you enjoy watching the animated TV show, "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic".
What confuses me is why liking a program (any program) merits the distinction of a special label. Does that mean that you like it more than, say, the average person would enjoy an episode of the Expanse or the Simpsons?
Ohhh, okay, that helps. For whatever it's worth I feel the same way about Shakira music videos![]()

The flame wars aren't so big anymore, but a few years ago, just mentioning you watched MLP once... Started all sort of rage. Eventually the show had a cult following.
Agreed. It's not noteworthy at all.
The thing about it is - I don't think Bronies started calling THEMSELVES bronies. (And pegasisters - to be absolutely fair there is also a large number of adult females on the same boat), I think it was originally meant as insult. It was kind of a phenomenon which surprised everybody. Person who likes Simpsons isn't interesting, because virtually everybody likes Simpsons. But this was so unexpected and so far from target audience that it simply became "a thing".
So, basically it was like bigotry or homophobia; people who self elected as "normal" could demonstrate their normalcy by calling names and accusing these guys of having some abnormality? The picture becomes clearer. I will admit, I had been wondering what the heck was up with all the ponies and unicorns as avatars![]()
Hahah, yeah. I just like the TV show, yet someone has to put a label on it. Labels are evil.![]()
People fear what they don't understand, and the best way to express fear, especially on the internet, is through hatred.
That is the sad nature of humanity. Religion, politics, race, nationality, colour of your hair,... People LOVE hating things that are different. :/
Imagine how us poor misunderstood PvPers feel? It's tragic, really.
