Multi-crew -only weapons

A suggestion to enhance multi-crew:

Weapons that are much more powerful versions of fixed weapons of the same kind, but multi-crew only.

• the weapon would not fire at all (not even fixed) unless manned by a player
• the player manning this weapon would have a first-person view from the weapon turret
• no automatic aiming ("gimbal"), but the turret would have fast rotation controlled only by the player manning it
• only available in huge size

The idea would be to have a 1st person turret mode without auto-aim (think Han and Luke in the turrets when escaping from the Death Star). I think the weapons would need to be very powerful to offset the "wasted" huge hardpoint outside of multi-crew.

Oh this won't be exploited at all... Hold on, let me see if I can find the threads I remember reading from the other day....

• multi-crew with random people can (and is) already used for griefing, so this would not make it any worse
• no-one is forced to fit these weapons on their ships and/or invite random people to use them
• perhaps there would be less multi-crew griefing if multi-crew had more "fun" features
• I think trying to build a "grief-less" multiplayer anything is folly, and will lead to a dull game
• (re. above, I'm not saying griefing should be encouraged by design, but rather that design should not be discouraged by potential misuse)

This is true! This is why the player base is ignoring Multi-Crew... Through attrition until this can be remedied in a better method than the stop-gap "FDev doesn't want to get actively involved with actually doing support work..." Otherwise known as Crime & Punishment.

Although it doesn't address other issues with peer-to-peer connection that while your idea might be good for the company will quickly turn to rage-quits as people can't get together in the same instance of the game for multi-crew. (Yes, this has been brought up a few times in Suggestions and it always ends with "place a support ticket").

As an additional thought, maybe these could also be used single player in such a way that the NPC crewman is flying the main ship, and the player is manning the weapon. Similar to how SLF works when the player goes into the fighter. (The other way around, i.e., NPC manning the turret would seem overpowered since then you'd essentially have a turreted weapon without the downsides.)

As as long as npcs don’t man them I’m fine with that
