I've sunk quite a few hours into E
so far and here is how far I've got.
My only source of money has been short-hop trade routes between the starter systems (let's just say I cannot look at another container of fish again). I think my most profitable run was titanium from Dahan to I Bootis. Just doing trade runs built up my skills in station landings and running away from interdictions - I was stopped THREE times on a run to Eranin once!
Over maybe a few of hours I built up enough to get a Hauler. Mo' cargo, mo' money. But just hauling to Aulin gets stale after a while. Oh and make sure you map your "Eject Cargo" key away from your "Open Cargo Hatch" key - on approach to a station I spilled my load of 16 fertilizer containers and was fined 2,400 credits. Only managed to scoop two of them back before the rest just vanished.
But my wake up call was in hyperspace in my hauler: DO NOT PAUSE THE GAME when you are in hyperpace. I had to take a break and when I came back, my hauler was in pieces after I was jacked by a space pirate.
So I'm back to a Sidewinder building up the funds to get a Viper. I have not finished all the Combat Tutorials yet, but I think I should do that as combat gets the blood pumping.
