PvP More respect to pirates - even less respect to the griefers

So......

Have been trying out actions which are the equivalent of "piracy" - holding up ships, scanning for slaves, asking for them to be released and so on.

After a couple of commanders decided to run for it - decided to get the FSD reboot missiles in - and flopped (even when the missiles hit the target)

What I have learnt:

1. RESPECT PIRATES - its not an easy life

2. DISRESPECT GRIEFERS (EVEN MORE :) ) - its much easier to take out the other ship, than keep it alive

3. Cutter has certain advantages for piracy - but if you want to keep the other ship alive and immobile, it is not that great due to lack of agility

4. I need more practise at this

Separately - GOTTA LOVE THE NEWBIES!!!! Full marks to them for the guts shown.

They put their heads down - ignored the attempts at comms - one of them even tried to take on the cutter in an adder lol was chuckling all the way through that. And then made a run for it whatever the price.

I know that it was very easy to take them out - but it goes against everything RP wise.

If they were carrying slaves - you are taking the slaves out too.

If they aren't slavers - then - why destroy them?

I hope they had fun during the confrontations.

QUESTION: Any way to have a macro set up for standard texts to use comms wise? First message is copy paste, everything else takes time.

What on earth were you doing in that second video? You didn't even see what cargo he had? And you shot a load of missiles acres behind him, not at him?

You could have just fired a single hatch breaker and come out better off?

The easiest thing for auto text is Voice Attack where you can just tell VA a command and it can spew text into the comms for you. eg: I have "Piracy Terms" tell my victim to come to a halt etc...

:)

It was the conflict between trying to snipe out the drives (ambitious I know) and hit with the missile (one i didn't resolve in this case :) - though you could always get lucky), combined with the (lack of) agility of the cutter.
I scanned him - but I didn't have the time to check the scan results - or probably was just too amused by their attitude which threw me off a bit.

I don't want to use hatch breakers - i only want to liberate slaves not nab any random content. But maybe thats an idea to deal with the less co-operative types.

Any way other than voice commands?

Understood, but you were shooting missiles directly at the ship and not the retical showing where to shoot in order to lead the target and hit it?

I'm sure some folks have other apps that use keyboard short cuts. I've never used them though.

The Python makes a good pirate ship. Plenty of space for cargo etc...

that second clip shows you don't know how to hit a target. no wonder you kill instead of disable.
not that the amount of cargo that ship can carry covered the cost of doing whatever that was.[haha]

Yes I know - as I said I was trying to also use the fixed laser to try to snipe the drives (with the shields still up lol) at the same time. but yeah - it was messed up - hence the flop in the title.

I have bought and am in the middle of engineering a clipper for it now. Have put some frags with drag munitions on it.

I haven't killed - deliberately. It was easy to take either of those two out. First guy I got with the missile - the second guy yeah - you are right - it was a mess up - hence called a flop :)

Tbf I was also using the fixed laser at the same time to try to take out his drive later in the vid

(* Just to highlight that - I just pulled out an ASP X who refused to hand anything over, ended up having to defend him from the NPC who came to mug him while I was mugging him)

The long and short of it is - yes, there are ways. Not all are easy, but there are ways.
I have a Logitech G13 pad, and setting up macros is something it was made to do. It works wonders.
I have macros set up for things like:

Request Docking
Deploy Fighter
Full Power to Weapons/Shields/Engines
Deploy SRV
Send broadcast messages into local chat - mostly terrible puns or bad poetry for my own amusement and the cringes of others.

Eesh. That was ugly. 4/10. You got two points for technique and one for being brave enough to share it. The other point was for making the distinction between Pirates and Griefers.

For the record, my two credits worth would be:

1. Use a smaller ship. Hi Wake isn't effected by mass, might as well get the best manoeuvres you can so you are on top of them all the way. I would recommend a Python at the top end or a Cobra 3 to begin with, lightweight and Engineered for speed. You will get much better with practice but a Cutter is going to hold you back. (Although I've never flown one so who knows)

2. Engineer that manifest scanner for a faster turn around and get better at shortcuts to check the panel.

3. Put your interdictor on the weapons fire group so you are straight on the guns when you hit normal space. Fire a warning shot with your message. Keep the message short. Spam it if you need to.

Examples include "Halt!!" "All stop!" Or just a simple "Yaarrrr!"

You can explain what you are up to if they stop. If they don't and you have confirmed they are Slavers then you need to make a decision.

4.Harmless unshielded T6's aren't cool. That's a bad look dude. Also you should know a well flown T6 is slicker than a greased weasel.

5. Cannons seem to work best against drives at the minute. But then you might have to explain how to reboot / restart to them so you might want to check you know how to do it to.

I could go on. But I figure you'll get there eventually.

Ps.

Yaarrrr!

Autohotkey is good for macros: https://autohotkey.com/

Thanks - will look into this

Its all in good fun. 2/10 for technique with a cutter ain't bad. You'll see whenever you try it :)
Swapped it out for a clipper now. Much more agile, less drift.

Excellent advice- and something I hadn't thought about.

Hey - if I was pvp'ing them, fair enough. As it is though - thinking back to when I started - I wonder if they even know how to use the comms panel yet?

Ps.

Entirely agree. Any target is legitamate, as you are not seeking to destroy, but roleplaying the freeing of slaves. why would you care if the ship was weaker than yours, if you can free the slaves?

Respect for trying the "pirates life" it's tough aint it? Fun though.

Also, yeah, I was cringing when I saw you firing those missiles at the ship directly and not at the circular reticule that was showing you where the target would be when your missile reaches it!

Good luck. Careful with missiles, I accidentally blew up a couple of T6's several months ago when I had some bound to the wrong fire group...

I'm never going to live that down lol ...... it was because of the fixed laser, really. mostly used fixed weapons - honestly [bad look man, very bad look lol]

Nice one, Daman. The game needs more guys like you to make playing in open fun again. I'd love to get interdicted by you when I'm in my combat Sidewinder. I think you'd enjoy it too.

Nice vids. If you want to take out drives you need to target them for best results. Fixed weapons have micro gimbles so will go after targeted modules more precisely. Lasers are generally not the best for taking out drives, although they do work. For drives your best friend is a rapidfire packhound rack, if you don't have them then a rapid fire seeker. If the target has a PDT, then try to get as close as possible, to the point of touching, to keep it from killing your missiles. PDT will also kill hatch breakers if you are not close. It can be difficult to get this close in a Cutter but a Clipper is super easy.

heheh - but i didn't take you for a slaver? We will do a sidey wing soon - maybe you can help contribute the anti-slavery movement? :)

Thanks - actually in the first vid there was a PDT, and I got in close and missiled the FSD (difficult to see in the vid) - but the cutter almost squashed him as a result

ANYWAY - REDEMPTION

And btw - thanks for all the advice - QUICK MANIFEST SCAN is a game changer

Hi OP. Thought I might be able to help a little. Piracy is without a doubt the most challenging career in ED. When I goes right, it is very satisfying. Your attitude is good for playing a pirate too. Its all about the cargo and not the kill. I see you're on PC; I'm an Xbox player. Take a look at the Dark Marauders YouTube channel - it might help, it might not. Keep up the good work scallywag YARRRRRRRR https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq-2aGpBfXYMjYX20XpnQ9A?view_as=subscriber

One of the best pirates in the game, from Code:

Acting as a pirate once in a while for laugh is ok, but I cringe someone mentions his profession in the game as a pirate.

It's appealing (cool factor), that's how I started my adventure with ED, until I realised (pretty much on day one) it's not profitable enough (at all) to carry on.

Shame really.. I would happily take that path in the game if it worked.
