Your most played games and why (might help this universe)

Hi all :)

I have quite a few :)

no order:

1. C64 games ...my mind was forced to make up the lack of picture and sound of a ex. plane, gun, hero etc. And it took 45 minutes to load a game.
But this new world which only at that time was in films and tv shows, now you could be hero and win teh day as a ninja, fighter pilot, soldier, weird frog crossing the street.
One game caught my eye A.C.E. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBbJ8mwyZoM I remember the airrefuel bit and what kid dosen't like jetfighters :)

2. Amiga 500/2000/cdtv : Many c64 titles just got better gfx and sound but the gameplay was still c64'ish so developers were forced to make really great content (and at that time adding better sound and gfx just resold alot of great
games). Still scripted gameplay but instead of going to school and braggin about highscores, we could play against each other. Summer games, winter games, California games great fun and two joystick but just hand over to player 3
and 4. The need for making up that you were in a car or plane etc was slowly washing out.
For me anything flying was the game. But fantasy was a big deal as well Champions of krynn...epic story and immersion for me :)

3. Early pc days: Let's port all amiga games ....that was not all successful. But a lot of new companies saw the light of day...Sierra, they did a typing game, which had many titles (space quest police quest and larry ..way ahead of it's
time ;) ) The special thing of Sierra games for me was that english is not my native language and to get anywhere in this game, you needed to be able to type in english. So I learned a lot of common police procedure and typing in
english. Another company was Microprose, military games and their crown jewel Falcon 4.0 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falcon_4.0, First online game for me and the start of being part of a online group. We used microsoft
game voice as a talking client, the year is 2000. Falcon 4.0 was a flop but source code leaked is has been carried on to this day. It still has one of the best campaign engines. I showed me the value of online gaming and how dynamic
and fun it is. Learning from a friend does not feel like learning because it is just fun. This game made me as a civilian turn heads and being asked by a airforce officer "are you a pilot ?". "No sir but a lot of sim time in a great sim"

4. Today pc games: hmm gta has done a lot. Dcs flight sim is up there on sheer realism, Online I still played Falcon 4.0 as Í love flight stuff, Skyrim impressed me a lot mega game. But main thing is AI vs. humans does not work as well
as humans vs. humans. The dynamic you get racing or fighting or out skill someone is epic.

16 people supported in one instance is just not good enough these days, we had 120 people steady in falcon 4.0 for in 2008.
Elite has made a universe, start making it full of life, like when you come to a station...the voice thing is really good but don't stop there, cause it is one thing, there is no believable life in the stations, ground bases are empty. Why not
make the gameplay like you want to make the punishment system ? cause and effect but dynamic between players and lore and stations and factions. Your idea of factions is good but poorly executed.

Fiinal thing : The wow factor for me in this game is the sound, it is what the game should be. Dynamic and online ....every other major thing is online and has users interact online....so Elite facebook it is ;)

Elite

1) Elite Dangerous
then in no particular order

Gears of war 2
Elite
Elite 2 Frontier
Elite 3 st encounters
kick off 2
stunt car racer

these are my longest life suckers.

as for why... well in the case of ED at least its largely the VR support.
kick off 2 because, I was damn good at it (not being bigheaded its the ONLY game in my life I would consider myself in the top 1%, I am rubbish at most competitive MP games because generally I don't like them, I like a more coop game)

Elite dangerous by far.
Oblivion second, I put a lot into that.

On the C64, paradroid, elite, uridium, mercenary.

Amiga, elite 2, sentinel, sensible soccer :)

Early pc, championship manager, first version, nearly cost me my degree lol, Sam and max, monkey island, x wing, star trek (forgot the name, the point and click one), and star trek bridge commander. Oh and quake and unreal tournament.

Oh and wipeout, spyro, super Mario bros, on various consoles.

Probably loads more that I sunk hours into, oddly nothing recent apart from ED, though I did spend a ridiculous amount of time with mame playing old arcade games, especially pac man variants :) I suppose I'll put league of legends in there as well, but mostly because a friend played it and despite all the hours I spent with it I never got that good.

Wow, neatly forgot, my rts years :) ssi games, tobruk, and others, weird thing is that although I loved those on the 8 and 16 bit computers, I just can't get into them on anything modern.

Elite Dangerous - Do I really need to explain why? Everything I've wanted in a space sim, VR took it way beyond what I was expecting. Just wish it had an offline mode with Mod support.

X-Series (Mainly X3TC) 10 years with that series, closest thing to the original Elite, except you could build an empire, hundreds of mods, slow paced to fit my lifestyle, can dip in and out

Entire Silent Hunter Series - Slow paced, hunting huge freighters.

Star Trek Bridge Commander
(Open galaxy mod, random encounters) Capital ship simulator - spent most of my time rewriting the open galaxy mod.

Star trek Klingon Academy (Similar open galaxy mod, random encounters) Capital ship simulator, huge amount of mods

Microprose Mech Warrior 3 - Who doesn't want to stomp around in a giant Mech? first game I bought that had HOTAS support, must have been in my early 20's

GTAV - Things got kinda silly, would have up to 6 friends come round, each bringing a 47 inch screen and PS3, spend the night off roading and exploring in private group or open play. Excellent game for mindless fun with friends.

Elder Scrolls series (several thousands of hours on Skyrim and counting)
Fallout series
The Witcher series (W3 is my all time favorite game)
Dragon Age series (DA: Origins the ultimate Bioware masterpiece... all gone downhill since then)
Mass Effect series (the original trilogy - Bioware's last breath)
XCOM series (just can't get enough of this)
Galactic Civilizations series (very, very long game sessions on this one - the ultimate space 4X game)
Civilization series
Anno series
Tropico series (a very underrated gem)
Stalker Call of Prypiat (most atmospheric game I ever played, just incredible)

Elite Dangerous could well make the list on account of hours played, but unlike these games that I absolutely love, Elite Dangerous I both love it and hate it in equal measure, so it doesn't quite make it.

Oldies from Commodore Amiga days:

Wing Commander
Sid Meier's Pirates
Utopia
Gunship 2000
Combat Air Patrol
Railroad Tycoon
Sensible World of Soccer
Lemmings
The Manager
Dune

Elder Scrolls series....easily.
Put countless hours into Morrowinc and still consider it the best RPG of all time, the depth of that game is immense. Was disappointed with Oblivion but Skyrim was amazing. Bethesda nail that genre, it’s a bit of a problem because so many other rpg’s pale in comparison...

Elite could learn a lot from those kind of games. Notably the 3 major players in Elite (Federation/Empire/Alliance) have no substance for the player and no sense of belonging as you rank up in them. I’m not even going to get started....if they haven’t changed things after this long then it looks like this is as good as it gets.

Most Played Chronologically:

Missile Command (arcade)
Space Invaders. (Atari)
Captain Blood
Infestation
Doom
Quake
Mechwarrior II
Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri.
Theif II
Microsoft Flight Simulator.
IL2 - Sturmovik
Stalker
Cliffs of Dover
Stalker - Call of Pipryat
DCS (mostly flying the Frogfoot SU-24)
Alien Isolation
Elite Dangus.

Your most played games and why (might help this universe) )

I like good stealth shooters with cool gadgets and guns in general.
Specific stealth games that come to mind: Splintercell, Ghostwarrior, but also Dishonored with its beautiful and stylishly designed world. Dishonored is not just a game, it is also art. The Crysis games where cool too. Very cool, balanced stealth mechanics, very cool shootouts.

I love cyberpunk in books and games: Deus Ex

I like immersive open world games.
Ubisoft happens to be a master in creating beautiful detailed open worlds. I love the Assassin's Creed series, especially the first three because the ancient cities in those games are truly magnificent. Far Cry is great fun too.
I also liked GTA IV and to a lesser extend GTA V.
Fallout 3 and 4 were quite nice.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines gets a special mention.
God, I wish that game would get an open world successor made by Troika or CD Projekt.
I love that game to death. I played through it at least 13 times.

I enjoy fantasy open world RPG games like the Elder Scrolls and the Witcher III. I think especially the Witcher's detailed monster and bestiary system with the different ways to engage them is superb.
Shadow of Mordor was an awesome experience too, mostly because of it's unique nemesis system.

I love RTS: The best skirmish RTS ever made is Supreme Commander Forged Alliance. A good second is the first Dawn of War series with its excellent AI.
The Homeworld space RTS are wonderful too. The spaceship design is the best and the atmosphere is just plain awesome in those games.

Frontier Elite II made an everlasting impression on me. And I think ED is an awesome sequel. I hope ED will eventually become everything I look for in a spacesim, but even now it is already better than its predecessors.

I had some fun with the X games too, although they always made me long for another Elite.
The X-Wing and Tie-fighter series were also a great love of mine. I wish Elite Dangerous had NPC capital fleets just like those games. It really added to the feel of the game to see different types of Star destroyers, frigates, cruisers etc. etc. ED is really missing out here.

I could make a much, much longer list, because I played hundreds, perhaps thousands of games in the more than half a century of my existence.

Well this is going to be an interesting list...

Marble Madness
Galaga
Missile Command
Metroid
The Tomb of Setmoth
Lucifer's Realm (I've still never finished this one!)
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
The Leather Goddesses of Phobos
Leisure Suit Larry 1 & 2
The Oregon Trail
Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?
Warzone 2100
Final Fantasy 1-8, X and X-2
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The Last of Us
Dead Space 1, 2 and 3
The Witcher 1, 2 and 3
Fable
Dragon's Lair
Space Ace
The Evil Within
No Man's Sky
Elite: Dangerous
Mass Effect 1,2,3 and Andromeda
Wing Commander: The Price of Peace
Mech Warrior - all of them
Unreal Tournament
America's Army
Quake 2 and 3
Xiangqi
The Sims 1-3 and counless expansions

Like many others, I've played far more games - but these are the ones I know I've spent countless hours involved with, playing, modding, you name it.

Most played games ever (for me)...
Elite Dangerous
Ingress (on the wagon gamerholic for the rest of my life...)
Starsiege: Tribes
Team Fortress (not TF2)
UT 2k4
Quakeworld
Savage
Wipeout HD
Wipeout 2097
Logical
Frontier Elite 2
Lemmings
Shadow of the Beast
The Sentinel
Elite
Bubble Bobble

They're are plenty more, but you get the idea.

ED far and away with just over 3000 hours.

Then the X series with (combined) 1500 hours or so.

I dearly love many other genres of games, such as TW3 & Fallout3/4 & Skyrim, but most of them top out anywhere from 50-350 hours. Lately I've been investing heavily in HOI4 & EUIV from Paradox

Elite and Elite:Dangerous are very high on my “most hours consumed” list
Lemmings on my A1000
Defender of the Crown A1000
Wings on my A1200. God I miss Cinemaware
Battle Tech Cresent Hawks Inception A1000
Bubble Bobble A1000
Mechwarrior2 486 PC
Dwarf Fortress on my previous and current PCs

All of those games, I put hundreds to thousands of hours into. Sounds kinda sad, yet some of them were with my best friend, others were with my dad, and now I get my kids to wing up in elite from time to time, or I’ll jump into one of their games like Minecraft, Terraria, or *shudder* Roblox.

Edit: I missed the why. None of those were easy games (fu Bubble Bobble level 99 with no save!). Most of the Amiga games were fun to play with others because you could pass the joystick or mouse to someone else for the type of missions they liked in Wings or they were the best at the catapult in Defender of the Crown. Elite and DF I play now because they cannot be beat, only played, and I love that.

Super Mario Kart.

It's not just the best Mario game, the best SNES game, the best Nintendo game or even the best racing game. It's quite possibly the best game ever.
