Thread Closed: Not open for further replies.
Hi everyone!

As promised, here’s more information regarding the Blind Charity Auction, a vital part of our annual 24 hour livestream for SpecialEffect! During the Auction (which starts right now!), you can bid on a host of cool items in the hopes of winning that prize. These bids are private, so you have to bid what you’d be willing to pay per item. The winners will then be contacted directly and asked to donate the winning amount on our official Just Giving page for SpecialEffect.

The Auction is open NOW (when this post goes live) and will end on December 7, 2017 – 12PM GMT! The highest bidders will be contacted by the Frontier Community Team directly via email, and they will be asked to donate to our Just Giving page.

How to make a bid:
Take a look at the auction prizes below. Once you see one of more items that you’d like to bid on, simply go to this Google Form and pick your prize from the dropdown list, add the information needed, and submit. If you want to bid on multiple items, you’ll need to submit multiple forms. This bidding starts RIGHT NOW and will end on December 7, 2017 at 12PM GMT – winners will then be contacted immediately and asked to send proof of donation.
(Terms and Conditions apply, please see the bottom of this post for details!)

Some very, very nice things on offer there. No way I'll be able to win any of them, but they should help you raise a lot for a fantastic cause!

If anyone is curious, here's the kickstarter pledge rewards ....

£5,000 - Have dinner with the dev team
£3,000 - Name a frontier system
£750 - Name a planet
£500 - Name a space station

There's no reason why you couldn't "win" name a station with a £1 bid, so these pledge levels mean nothing.

Hey! This is for charity. Please refrain from making such negative comments. Your constructive feedback is always welcome, but to be honest, this type of negativity isn't welcome on a forum thread all about raising money for disabled children.

Thanks.

Small typo for the elite name something bids, "location with be decided by the dev team."

Other than that, pretty sure I won't get anything but I'll participate nontheless!

This actually makes me very sad. The T9 space-cow paintjob being a unique one of a kind never to be repeated type thing. I'd rather pay to make it available to everyone. Or at least have it as one of the promotional paint-packs list that Ed gives away on streams or something....
That having been said if the T10 gets a space-cow skin I think all will be forgiven... :)

So, it's just the winner in each auction that pays? If I wanted to contribute (and ideally, win something), I can just bid in all the auctions, and I'll only pay for those in which I win? (Fingers crossed, it's more than zero and less than 2... :p )

Pretty sure there is actually, the fact that you know as well as I do that all of those items will attract bids far higher, so you're just creating a nonsensical fantasy situation to give yourself something to be mad about.

Out of curiosity, do you also insist that every time someone takes the devs out for dinner it costs them a minimum of five grand?

I was going to say that - I can't see the pic in work but assuming it's the classic Friesian cow print I'm actually pretty gutted to see it being sold off to one person who can afford to spend some ridiculous amount on a ship paint because it can obviously never go on general sale after that.

Before anybody says 'Wow Red you heartless swine it's for charidee! yeah I know. So what do you reckon would make more money for Special Effect; this, or sticking it in the shop and donating all, or even 50%, of each sale to them?

I don't have spare money at the moment but for whoever wins the names, I predict:

Systemy McSystemface
Planety McPlanetface
Stationy McStationface

You have signed vinyl? I have the digital version, but not the vinyl :(

Sorry not signed no. I did preorder it though, so I have a special Ferris Wheel slipmat :D

That is correct, only the highest bidder for each of the items pays. If for whatever reason they are unable to pay, or do not respond within 48 hours then the option will be passed to the 2nd highest bidder.

It's a fair point (and a good idea) but maybe not all space cows are alike and you could make different patterns, hundreds of different cows. This one would still be unique AND you donated to Special effect. And it was the first ever and so on.

There really are some rare prizes on offer here and it's a brill charity too.

Done!

I did forget to update the year on the form on one of them, so I'm officially 6 months old. Will that invalidate my entry?

Time for a new forum profile image campaign perchance?
