Whoa hang on a minute .... Negativity? I think you need to look at your own posts for that.
I was posting the kickstarter pledge rewards as a point of reference.
And it is true you *could* win with a £1 ... you almost certainly won't, but you *could*, in theory.
And because you *could*, therefore the pledge levels mean nothing.
I would appreciate Edward Lewis and Red Anders not implying meaning where it doesn't actually exist.
Now, if it were me making such accusations, I'd apologise ....
Happy to apologise if you didn't mean what you wrote in the way that I read it. Also happy to give you a full explanation.
You said:
If anyone is curious, here's the kickstarter pledge rewards ....
£5,000 - Have dinner with the dev team
£3,000 - Name a frontier system
£750 - Name a planet
£500 - Name a space station
There's no reason why you couldn't "win" name a station with a £1 bid, so these pledge levels mean nothing.
I read that as meaning that the fact people had paid out for the £750 and £500 pledges for naming planets and station in the kickstarter 'meant nothing' in view of the fact that a player could potentially now receive the same reward for significantly less outlay by bidding in the auction.
There were two reasons I read it that way.
1. The ellipsis. You said
'If anyone is curious, here's the kickstarter pledge rewards ....' The ellipsis is used to denote missing text which the reader is left to infer for themselves, so you actually
instructed me to look for a meaning above and beyond the words on the screen by using it. Not going to apologise for actually doing it.
2. The fact that the alternative interpretation of what you wrote (which I did actually consider before commenting and is what you've now said you meant) didn't seem to make any sense. It is essentially
'here's some amounts of money as a point of reference, but these points of reference don't actually mean anything'. If they don't mean anything within the context of the conversation we're having, they cease to be points of reference because referring to them doesn't enhance or inform our discussion.
I trust that clarifies things sufficiently?
Re: the Type 9 cow print.
For whatever reason, whether that’s lore, personal preference from the art team, style/visual adherence to the themes of Elite Dangerous, or other, the cow print would not have made it in to Elite Dangerous as a paint job for everyone to use. However, a light-hearted paint job like this was perfect for this special occasion.
I wanted to explain this, because we’d really like to reduce any negativity hanging over the 24 hour Christmas charity event for any reason.
As always we take your feedback seriously, and will discuss with the team responsible for creating paint jobs for future use. I’m sure similar paint jobs may be available in future, but this one is staying unique for this occasion!
Thanks.
That's fair enough Ed. Probably worth me pointing out that I was at least as enthused by the possibility that having done it the way I suggested could have raised more money for Special Effect, which is an excellent charity as you say, as I was salty about the fact the paintjob would never be sold generally after being given out as a once in a lifetime prize.
If you want to make it up to me, when you talk to the art team mention the word Orca and y'know - black paintjob with white markings

Then they can break my heart all over again
*sobs*
Seriously though, this is a great event that you guys do and for a really great cause; there's nothing but positivity from me about the event itself.
Oh and the DB1000 genuinely made me snort hot Ribena (no that's
not a euphemism) out over my desk at work.
