Well Oculus it's December!!!!

Not so sure that's to get excited about What have I missed? How much time do you spend in the Oculus menu system in VR?

I hope it improves the controller/sensor setup in general. As we've discussed in another post, if your sensors get moved so your "direct ahead" setting no longer matches your borders etc, the only option is reset them from scratch! Be much nicer if you could simply re-do your sensors and manually adjust your "direct ahead" setting and move your existing borders around manually.

I am excited about what CylonSurfer has said, not the home bit, although that is way overdue a revamp as well.

HOWEVER, reading that to get overlay interaction it has to be made to work at game level, Can't see FD doing that anytime soon. That is disappointing.

Ah well i did say on an earlier post, 'Lets wait and see what the damn update brings us, before we slate the update', and i guess i should swallow my own advice and shut the damn up Wasp0 ;)

Ohhh! Now that sounds exciting stuff! So theoretically we could see third part elements injected into the HUD? eg: Trade tools?

If only the Oculus had a pair of camera's on the front, so you could super impose your real keyboard into the game. So you press a button and see a defined rectangle superimposed into Vr showing your keyboard area, allowing you to type easily...

Yup, thats exactly it! From what I understand the 'injecting' will be done at the GPU driver level also so it should provide much better performance than something like 'V Dashboard' for example.

My number one hope is being able to pin and interact with a virtual keyboard for use in the Galmap. That said, even the small things such as pinning a jpg file to a surface inside the cockpit would be cool to provide that little bit of needed cockpit customisation. Then there is as you mention, the pinning and hopeful interaction with web pages displaying trade tools etc from within the game.

I guess we'll have to wait until wednesday to find out just how limited Dash is if not implement at game level.

How would you interact with that virtual keyboard?

How would you interact with that virtual keyboard?

For me, it would be pointing a mouse pointer at a key and pressing it. I am assuming that would allow me to type in a System name and 'Copy' the typed name into the map search box! CS may have a different idea, but thought i would get in my wish. Of course it would be nice to miss out the 'COPY' procedure and just place curse in map search box the type out on virt keyboard. press enter and the name would be typed into the relevant box. Make VR Galaxy map a little better !

I would guess with the touch controllers and or mouse, similar to a touch screen keyboard - as a virtual keyboard usually is detected by the OS hopefully it will be a direct interaction.

Web pages etc will be a little useless if you cannot interact with them using Touch and a virtual keyboard. That said, even switching to the Void, bringing up a virtual touch keyboard to type a system name, copying it to Windows clipboard before exiting the Void and pasting it into the Galmap search via a 'CTRL+V' macro assigned to a button on my HOTAS will be an improvement... if that makes sense.

Hmmm... Just get ED to allow you to use the touch controllers to fully navigate the map, and put in a proper keyboard :)

Surely the problem with web pages is how hard it is to read stuff in the Oculus?

I used to use V Dashboard on occassion and also FlyInside for FSX (which allowed you to pin windows in your cockpit). I never really found readability to be an issue. You could grab a webpage and move it closer to your face or scale it so it was large enough when you wanted to interact with it. When finished, you just shrink the window and move it back to somewhere out of the way ready for next time.

On another note:

I've opened a ticket with support asking if there are any plans for Offical Oculus Dash support. Who knows, it could already be there for all we know! Fingers crossed.

Lets us know if you get an answer CS?

Thanks

I’m curious to try the new dash. I picked up an oculus on Craigslist at the weekend for a pretty decent price (albeit a drive out into the sticks to get it) does it need fall creators update.

Here is the reply from support regarding Dash support:

Hello CMDR.

Thanks for getting in touch.

As it stands, we'll need to do a fair bit more in the way of testing before we can commit to officially supporting Dash but it would of course be beneficial!

I simply can't give any guarantees at the current time I'm afraid.

Sounds promising.... I've asked them what we should expect for Wednesday, as in will it be 'Void' only mode or can we expect the seemless mode to work in some sort of unofficial capacity.

Did I miss Core 1.0, or is that just the current Oculus Home?

I think you must have missed it, it was great too... best bit of software ever!

In all seriousness - I think you are right and the current version of Oculus Home and the intergrated settings menu must be Core 1.0. I've never heard them reference it as Core 1.0 but then again I'm not a developer.

Star Wars chapter 4 was only called Star Wars until they later changed their mind about it.
I wouldn't over think it.

IIf FDev fully implement Dash support into Elite you will be able to press the Oculus Home button and then launch other apps such as web browsers and video players, pin them in your cockpit and interact with them while playing - all without being taken out of Elite.

What we really need now is a comment from FDEV to see if they intend on implementing Dash in Elite Dangerous.

Well, Robo Recall just updated itself with Dash support so it's definitely a thing.

Yes, indeed. It didn't seem to take them very long at all and other developers commeting on Dash implementations allude to it being very simple to do. FDEV on the other hand had this to say:

Lets just hope thats a cookie cutter response that support are throwing out until they have a Dash sorted. My only concern is the infrequency of Elite Dangerous updates these days (even where critical bugs are concered) where months and months go by... guess we'll have to see and have a litte faith. Who knows, maybe it was snuck into this weeks patch (a man can wish).
