Modes The modes are brilliant!

The way the design has made it possible for players to be able to adjust their game upon their mood or preferred play style is absolutely genius. Especially because there are no downsides on choosing one mode over the other. You log into the game, you decide, you play. You can fly around the galaxy undisturbed, fly with like minded people, or face the slings and arrows of public mode. Elite isn't hampered by players who deem a system "their system" and dictate how other people play, only when those other players have signed up for it are. Just as it should be.

Personally, I will never jump through a player's hoops. Game developers are the only people who I allow to construct such hoops. And this has always been a barrier for me to play MMOs. Elite's system makes it possible for me to play that MMO, on my own terms and under the rules the developers have set. Now I've seen all the threads of would be Napoleonic Little Tyrants who would love nothing more than me to dance for them, and they'll argue how it's unfair they can't make me dance for them, and for me that is testament the modes are working as designed.

So, tip of the hat to Frontier, who made it possible for an occasional reclusive as me to enjoy an MMO on my terms, and even be tempted to dip my toes in social events in that MMO.

The only thing missing is a "do not disturb" comms message. But that's not the modes fault.

By the way, the mods are brilliant as well!
And sometimes, even the mood is brilliant.

glad you like it, but i really see little merit in the design: it's just a solo game with a bland multiplayer option bolted on. as far as game design goes that's not brilliant, it's not even new, it's as cheap as it gets. doesn't mean it shouldn't have its uses (and aficionados (and knights))!

Oh, this is getting close to discussion.

Exciting!

But I see your point. It may not suit everyone and to each their own and all that :)

Yes, aye...fear not we Irish and the jocks took bits of the english language and butchered it long before the yanks chased the tea clippers away...only cos we hated them before you lot did ^

I love this forum...its like a social club fer solo players and social rejects alike...just need a couple pvprs to set the right mood and we all set to rock n roll ^

A lot of us here are actually "veterans" of Hotel California, we've pretty much seen all the ridiculous arguments time and time again. I do have to agree that for being such a ragged bunch, for all the minor differences we have we do treat each other respectfully and as adults. We don't troll each other and then just resort to childish immature "one liners" when we disagree. Sure we do have the occasional bit of fun, but we keep it civil amongst ourselves. I suppose it's because we learned the life skills necessary to live in an ordered society- whereas some still struggle to grasp the basic concept of civility.

Modes are brilliant.

The only change i'd actually suggest is lifting (resolving the technical scaling issues) of the player limit on Private Group membership.

^ Good point, I'm not even sure *why* the limit is set to 40,000 but I have indeed asked myself this question many a time.

I suspect PG's were always intended as friends groups for relatively small numbers, FDEV didn't anticipate the obviously huge interest there is in a PVE mode. So the cap had to be raised (twice IIRC) after the runaway success of Mobius as it was pushing the limits and breaking the game.

You know the recent threads Agony Aunt started about a formal open PVE mode, where he specifically asked for actual reasons to oppose it from people who would oppose it (but got none in reply). I think that may have been the last opportunity for players who oppose Open PVE to make their case.

Open PVE is coming.

You mean that locked troll post? Hard to reply to that one.

I came from a pvp background...that being quite literally all Ive done since the days of freelancer...bouncing from one pvp centric game to the next so elite is my personal little enigma...it breaks all the molds fer me.

Good manners cost nothing but the profits speak fer themselves...I dont mind trolling others just fer giggles ye understand. I dont mean anything nasty, god forbid its ever personal...most my infractions are just because I get carried away and say the wrong thing and dont proof read what I write. But I do love a wee bit of banter with players...its the one thing I miss the most as a loner.

I say loner and not solo player because the truth is I dd play in open when Im in the black or at colonia...solo every other time but in the black, its as lonely as it gets regardless what mode ye play in ^

Yes, that's exactly the sort of non response he got instead of rational arguments that might have been convincing.

I'm betting on Open PVE mode in the first wave of imminent improvements.

So roughly 18 hours is enough to be sure nobody is going to post rational statements to a post?

Yes, that and the last few years or trolling, name-calling and drivel.

The recent Mobius incursion probably hasn't helped, FDEV have had to help Mobius with that another irritation like raising the PG cap they won't need to bother with when they introduce Open PVE.

Off topic, but has there been another one?

That's not quite true, I saw at least the following answers:

- git gud
- Elite DANGEROUS
- blah blah advertised as PvP blah

And yes some were literally one liner "git gud" posts.

Off topic, but has there been another one?

Yes, a couple of tykes ran amok and fired pixels at someone elses pixels. They were last seen demanding 10p. I assume theyre getting high on pop and telling tales of derring do elsewhere.

TBH, from his vids Im surprised he managed to hit a sitting duck.
