2 things.

1. I just checked, and the modes are still brilliant.
2. What's PUBG?

1. Indeed they are as they offer players the opportunity to select how many players they play among and also the choice as to whether they might need to engage in direct PvP while still offering every player the ability to affect the single shared galaxy state. The benefits of Private Groups are often overlooked in that regard - the requirement to carefully vet the membership list notwithstanding.

2. Player Unknown's Battle Grounds: https://playbattlegrounds.com/main.pu

I don't entertain the idea Elite will ever actually have a BGS exclusive to Open play (really, really open to pleasant surprises though...), but I do still hold hope that at least one activity becomes consistent within Open. With PP as a prime target, I'm still incidentally thoroughly behind your idea for BGS and Open objectives for PowerPlay, even if it never picked up steam.

A few small things like that would make ED a far more well-rounded "multiplayer" game.

Proposals to add content are generally better received than "this existing content needs to be limited to Open only (to suit my preferred play-style)".

That doesn't really get put forward any more than "delete PvP!"; I suspect much less. Extreme views exist on both sides... ;)

The "ideal" as I see it is a separate BGS for Open; nothing to do with any content removal from PG. Controversial but, logistics aside, quite a reasonable sentiment - and certainly more reasonable than some of the kneejerks towards anything pro-open.

Still, I'm not opening that can of worms.

Why not add a new system for PvPers though? One that doesn't impact on anyone else? Maybe PP should have been that, but it wasn't. And something actually in-game this time, not like CQC.

Just lol'ed, cheers for that.

It's been proposed before, and was met with the resounding cries of "but why should PvPers get content PG doesn't!". I'm fairly certain the only consistent opinion of self-professed PvE players on the forum is...well, whatever is most objectionable to PvP at the time ;)

I still maintain that a separate BGS would be ideal on the basis that a core galaxy with continuity would be mind-blowing compared to what we have - it's not a case of boiling the galaxy down to pure PvP; I actually suspect murder would be more controlled, because ED is not a guild-based game that gives reason to group killing/staking out territory, and murderers whose game is weak will be kept in check. CLing and PG mechanics give power to wannabe murderers too!

But as I don't see that happening, if you can get the forum to agree to Open-only content, my base are all belong to you.

I have been thinking about this recently, and I figure a new struggle would suit PvP better. But as always, as a PvP layman, I could be wrong.

Instead of Powerplay which seems a little added on to the game, why not pick a more ingrained struggle? Fed vs Imp vs Alliance. How come players cannot pledge their in game allegiance to these mega factions? I have read more passion from people who are federation or imperials or alliance than I have from people pledged to a powerplay faction.

It would mean introducing politics on that high level. It would mean the 3 big factions going to war with each other and peace treaties and the like which, and here comes the sales pitch, can be influenced by players. When factions are on the verge of war, the actions of players of one faction to the other can determine whether they decide to go to war, or try to find diplomatic solutions. You will get incidents (think Franz Ferdinant) that might appear small, but spiral out of control. On the other hand, when player-traders see the possibility of their slave trade dry up during wartime, they might take action to avoid war.

Disagree.

Most awful thing about the game.

Interact with each other rather than hide in the shadows like gollum.

Few suggest removing direct PvP from the game - and then usually in response / parody of posts and threads suggesting that either Solo / Private Groups should be removed or existing content be limited to Open play only - in my experience anyway.

Frontier, in the person of Michael Brookes, has been quite clear - unambiguous even - that the BGS will not be split:

Will at any time solo and private group play be separated into a different universe/database from open play? It's kind of cheap that you can be safe from many things in solo, like player blockades and so on, and still affect the same universe.

No.

Michael

Each time the game has been launched on a new platform, that platform has been added to those already affecting the BGS.

These, coupled with Frontier's statement at the start of the Kickstarter regarding the intended gameplay being that every player experiences and affects the single shared galaxy state, are strongly suggestive of the BGS never being split.

Hooray! Dissent :)

I have interacted with others in Private Group a lot. Any reason that is interaction which does not deserve to be counted?

Bit of background context for you: Withnail used to.pretty much run the Archon Delaine PP factions effort, one which was subject to constant UA Bombing and undermining by groups done in solo or pg.
