Huh - today I learned.
But cargo does not show on the SRV when collected. It disappears, implying that it’s stored inside. Isn’t that what the big box behind the driver’s cab is for?
It would require a number of different models if the cargo was to be visible, escape pods are a different shape from cargo containers are a different shape from etc......
SRV's, physically and visually need a good work over, this may also be part of atmospheres. Different SRV's, larger ones that require larger bays so instead of carrying two small ones you could carry one larger one etc. Cargo should be carried on the outside of the SRV to make sense, in reality you would jump out, hook it up to the cargo straps then use winches to tighten it and fasten it to the side of the SRV. I mean it's already in vacuum so going to the trouble of enclosing it for the trip back to your ship just wouldn't make sense. The big box, I am imagining, would contain life support, fuel storage and batteries etc. So it's really just a temporary carrying solution and should be offloaded into a proper cargo bay before docking. You would park next to your ship, deploy the cargo hoist and stow it away with the rest of the cargo.
So logically and practically it makes sense that the SRV and the SRV hanger can't be used as standard cargo bays while in flight. It's a game, spending all that time getting out and fastening cargo, then loading it into the ship before docking would be fun....about twice. Even then think about how many times people have been under fire while carrying cargo, if under fire carrying cargo in the SRV you should have to release it using the emergency release before rushing in to dock, but again it's a game so we need to make it fun which means sometimes not being annoyingly realistic.
