Partially Discovered/Explored Systems

I only have three rules for exploration that I keep, for the most part.

If I can get my name on a system I will.
If I can leave room for the next guy I will.
If I can confuse the next guy, so much the better.

I only do detailed scans beyond honking the system if:

There is a water world or ELW, neutron star, white dwarf or black hole or something else that's really interesting.

Life's a bit too short to scan every ball of rock and ice in this game.

Have fun.......... o7!

[Edit]And yes, an ADS is essential.[/Edit]

Sry for off-topic, but: Respect, from a fellow spreadsheeter :) One thing you could (if interested) save time on though is on the converting and renaming: EDDiscovery can automatically convert any screenshot you take and name it to you liking with timestamp, system name and some other options. This means more time for spreadsheets ;)

That's what I use now, I had looked at ED Discovery way in the past and even tried to set it up and kept running into issues, I ain't so computer literate and if I run into an issue that isn't explained thoroughly, I get frustrated and throw it out. So I ran with Capts Log, the old version for a long time, then upgraded it to the Beta, which is so much nicer, although you cannot add missed objects, sometimes it doesn't work when I start it, or it takes a couple jumps before it catches up, but if you scan an object during the down time, you can't go back and add it later. But recently I took the time to go through the instructions and was able to set up ED Discovery so that it would work, and there seemed to be more instructions now then when I first tried to get it to run, and with the voicepack feature in there, it works great, now my AI is telling me all sorts of stuff, even too the point that I don't have to actually say any commands any more....hahaha. But I do use the convert feature on it, took me several pixs to figure out how to make it work, but it sure saves time over using a separate converter program.

I am of the opinion that if I am the first, more than likely I also be the last to ever visit the system, so I scan every undiscovered. I did however, in the past partially scan a system due to time constraints or being in a hurry to get somewhere. But those partial systems bugged me over and over, cause I am 'meticulous' and I just couldn't leave those systems hanging. So after a year or so of it bugging me, I took a new account, has the same name as the old account, and bookmarked every partial system that I had left hanging, there were over 250 of them spread out over 30k Lys, and took a month going to each one and finish scanning them. And out of those 250 or so, there were only a couple that someone else had visited and scanned an object or two and moved on, the rest became what I call full system scans. I catalogue all my finds and currently I have over 4400 full scan systems, 53 partial scans (I named the main star in the system and some objects) and 2200 piggybacked systems (systems where I was not the first in, but cleaned up others leavings, and didn't get the main star).

And that's what I think is the best thing about Elite. It is a big galaxy and you have a spaceship. Everyone can fly their own way.

Somewhere between the abyss and the bottom of the galaxy some 600 K+ LS from the drop in point there is an icy moon with my name on it right next to a nice looking earth-like and if I remember right a few water worlds still waiting. Not a chance it will ever be seen but I quite enjoy knowing its there.

And to think people call explorers strange.

I passed a milestone last night, for me that is, I just documented my 50000th first discovery into my spreadsheet. Out of those 50000, I have over 16000 Icy Rocks, 22 earth likes so far, 157 Neutrons, 35 Black Holes, 171 Water Worlds and 170 Terra Water Worlds, 44 Ammonia worlds and so on...that's all I can remember off the top of my head right now. Now only have 950000 to go to be the first to a million first discoveries, but I gotta lot of catching up to do since there have been some that have been exploring a lot longer than I have. Now it would be great if FDev would publish a list of the commanders, or at least the top 100 or so commanders with the most first discoveries, give those of us that care a mark to shoot for.

That is actually one of my favorite features of EGO...the leader board, and it would be great if FD added something like that into the game. One thing I would like though, and have suggested it to Cmdr Wolzan for EGO is to have dynamic values to calculating the leaderboard. Rather than static values based simply on body type, have it based on rarity, so the fewer of a specific object discovered, the more valuable it is. As more of a specific object are discovered, the value drops in relation to other objects. Supply and demand dynamics if you will. It would give explorers something similar to work as traders do with commodities, as well as those who work the BGS.

94, wow, I've seen an 87 but that was somebody else's, I think the most bodies in a system discovered by me is in the 70's
Those other figures are impressive too, I don't have a clue about what numbers I have regarding specific bodies but it's nowhere near your numbers.[up]
LOL, i had a 116 system and something kicked in, had to scan everything EODGOLS DV-Y E7.
I am so sad I can type that without even looking it up in my records. These days I just scan ELW's and WW's and AW's. An occasional Metal rich too, or the moon of a moon of a gas giant, as they tend to hold good mats. An ELW is the only thing i'll travel any distance in a system for though!
