Alien archaeology and other mysteries: Breaking News, Theories and Tinfoil Hattery

Did Braben just hint that we might start encountering those 'oldschool' Thargoid ships found crashed before? (In the livestream)

Perhaps determining which Thargoids are Oresrian or Klaxian might be easier than we thought...

Yea always had the impression that would be the case.

in the live stream when Sandy did his 'Truth or Donate' bit yesterday.

When asked 'do you want to kill or befriend the Thargiods?' (or something similar) he ummed a bit and then answered 'he wants to kill the Aliens who are doing all the attacks...'

He did not specifically mention the Thargoids, rather avoided it somewhat. I got the distinct impression he was hinting that it is NOT the Thargoids doing the initial attacks, they are just there in the aftermath.

This is something I have considered before as we have never seen any evidence of the attacks actually happening. This could be another race entirely or even our own (aegis, inra etc.).

Will have to get a transcript of exactly what he said, but it did seem odd to me at the time.

I think you're reading too much into that - he was asked about the Thargoids, and I thought was answering about them.

I'd be interested in seeing that if you can find a video clip or something please?

A bunch of people (me included) have said since day one that it's odd that we've never seen a flower-ship attack anything (except us) despite the thousands of ships they've apparently attacked. We've still never seen them attacking anything to this day. Even when Fdev produced a video to introduce them, they specifically chose to show a flower ship doing nothing at all, and being shot in the back by us.

The other explanation to DB's quote, as you've reported it, is that he might mean that the flower ships are doing the attacks, but they aren't Thargoids. In Lore we know that the term Thargoid is a human name, and that the Thargoids we mean when we say 'Thargoid' call themselves (or prefer us to call them) Oresrian (source: Out of the Darkness and Premonition). So, maybe DB is being sly and saying these aren't Oresrians...

Still, whatever it means, thanks for reporting that, very interesting!

Still never seen them instigating an attack on anything to this day (that wasn't triggered by a commander being too close, not dumping cargo or carrying guardian tech) ;)

We know their attacks can cause a similar damage profile to what we see in the NHSS and megaship wrecks.

Tried to clip it, but got some errors, so here is a link to whole replay with timestamp (08h49m35s) https://www.twitch.tv/videos/208647184?t=08h49m35s

Thanks for that, awesome :)

Here's the exact transcription too:

08:49:39

Q: Do you want to befriend or attack the Thargoids?
A: I want to, truth, I want to attack the alien menace... 'cos they've been killing everyone.

EDIT: That means we can scratch of any theories about humans staging attacks :)

He is basically saying that Klaxians are doing the killing while we are busy shooting Oresrians, isn't he?

Yes, or something along those lines :)

My theory has it the other way around, that the Oresrians have been doing the killing, and the Klaxians are the "flower ships". It kinda works both ways round!

That works to. They are ones trying to draw us into a conflict, according to the rumors.

We haven't seen them attacking, but from raiding Fed convoys to the latest megaship attack executed by the Basilisk variants, we have plenty of evidence of Thargoid aggression - that is if 'humans staging the attacks' are off the cards. :)

Who says it's Thargoids of any faction? He said aliens. It could be the Guardian exiles, or an entirely new race.

I've always thought the Thargoids we're being driven by something worse. Rebecca said, "...and they thought the Thargoids we're bad!"

Not sure that's the case. We've plenty of reports of Thargoid's attacking, but I don't believe that even the latest Basilisk-megaship attacks were witnessed were they?

Nothing, great point :) There's long been rumours of people under the sway of an outside influence, stuff like Halsey and that odd report in Jotunheim, etc.

Yeah, I keep wondering about Halsey.

Lost in a hyperspace accident, and contacted by mysterious beings? Not hard to consider her escape pod got scooped up by a passing Thargoid.

That she was returned unharmed (and time in hospital didn't reveal any parasitic body snatchery), but had seemingly communicated with some other entities could mean all the other pilots getting scooped up might all return as emissaries.

Which is the idea I've been advancing all the time, that the thargoids are NOT the threat they seem, sure they are destroying our ships.... but they are going after their tech and their data we aquired

I think the thargoids are running from something. the 2 'races' idea does'nt fit in with the hive society theory floated about, the hive leaders decided to run for it (doing their version of the BSRM ;) ) and ran into us 200 yrs ago.
And started a fight... which we won.. just

What I think is coming is the guardians... they are not all dead and their wish is to destroy all life forms they encounter, thargoid, human... cat does'nt matter to them.
Read the guardian data logs and how keen they were on biological warfare to wipe out their enemies....

Well, I said unless staged attacks are off the cards.
Reports explicitly state, that Thargoids were attacking. Given the we only know the Thargoids, I think it highly unlikely that we are seeing a series of attacks/conflicts and happen to find innocent Thargoids simply checking out the scene. :)

Anyone commented yet different unknown damage type seen on Federal and on Imperial ships (green blob vs black web)?

First I've heard of it. Got any screenshots?

I do know that green blobs for caustic damage on your own ship turn to black web like structures when you dock, before you fix the damage. I've seen this myself on my external camera.
