I know website, shmebsite, but here: https://dictionary.law.com/Default.aspx?selected=1637

promise
1) n. a firm agreement to perform an act, refrain from acting or make a payment or delivery. In contract law, if the parties exchange promises, each promise is "consideration" (a valuable item) for the other promise. Failure to fulfill a promise in a contract is a breach of the contract, for which the other party may sue for performance and/or damages. 2) v. to make a firm agreement to act, refrain from acting or make a payment or delivery.

Nice pick, this gives some context here :)

Remember, they are pitching for jury case. So wording will be more 'casual' just for that fact alone.

I don't think so (insert usual 'not a lawyer' statement here). The point of the filing is to provide a preliminary overview in legal terms of what is under contention, from Crytek's perspective. It isn't 'evidence', and the jury has no reason to even read it.

3) Crytek creating the original demo is huge news. Admittedly it means that CR was truthful in saying that development only started after the Kickstarter, but now we know that the KS was sold on a demo created by a 3rd party. Wow.

Umm... didn't we see Chris Roberts sitting at a computer not only showing of the demo but also looking at lines of code and randomly pressing some keys back then? It kind of hinted that it was him and his small but dedicated team that had done the actual work.

I don't think they know other games exist.

Its something i've encoutered a bit on that sub. To some of the fans its only like two games exist. The good game that one day will be SC, and they acknowledge the existence of ED because apparently ED fans are jealous of SC's success. (yes yes, i know, bonkers). I even tried to point out to one of these madmen that i actually played and enjoyed other games as well, but they couldn't seem to understand the concept.

Obscure thought: What if...

Crytek actually won this case and ended up with the rights, assets etc., to Squadron 42/Star Citizen? I'm unsure if I would consider this a desirable scenario, but it pretty much is the only way I could see the project being taken from the hands of Chris Roberst and maybe finished by somebody more capable of doing so.

Which is why I'm unsure I'd like this scenario. After all, Crytek seems not to be a posterchild of a stable dev house, regularily paying their employees and reliably releasing good games anymore either.

Crytek would be under ZERO obligation to finish the games. In fact they could use the assets to create a different game and everyone would still have to buy in again.

As an ED fan, I AM jealous that ED doesn't have the meta drama that comes with Star Citizen.
This lawsuit is good for Star Citizen.

Well, we are busy playing actual game with actual drama in it

Star Citizen announcement followed few days after ED popped up. It certainly wasn't central focus at the beginning of KS.

I suspect this is what's at heart of this lawsuit. Contract violations aside, breaking promise of working together with CryTek and throwing them under the bus while they had financial difficulties might not fly well with jury.

Yes it was, Star Citizen was what the kickstarter was for not SQ42.

Does anybody with questionable knowledge regarding law know how long it will take for this whole thing to go down? Is it like two weeks or several years until CIG offices disintegrate in case they lose the lawsuit? I need to know now because my garage door needs replacement soon.

Is anyone keeping count on how many of CiGs business relationships/partnerships turn to sewage fodder? Is it all of them apart from Intel? Off the top of my head:

AMD?
The joystick people?
The people that made Star Marine?
CryTek?

I am still sad that Mad Catz (the name reference regarding wing commander is awesome) died before they could deliver the awesome plastic merchandise, especially joysticks for a game that is played best with mouse and keyboard.

I can't help but think CIG and white knights will play the martyr card, and the whales will continue throwing more money. They're in the same situation than when you're waiting for the bus for much more time than what it would have taken to directly walk home: starting to walk will make you silly, and the bus could well be just around the corner.

Not at the beginning. Squadron 42 was thing they demoed and certainly thing they start to collect money for.

Then SC arrived.

I know, I was there.

You are wrong. SC was always the original pitch. It is right there in the kickstarter. Even the original pitch video talked about SC not SQ42.

I know I was there.

Seems to be quite a list - no idea on the status of the relationships - from AP and Rubber Jonny on SA:

This goes to the heart of what has happened to all the money in my view.

Chris Roberts couldn't have built the demo without Crytek, on kickstarter launch day CIG's (subcontractor, built) website crashed, so CIG switched subcontractors to Turbulent. This is a pattern that repeats, there are so many ex-subcontractors, Turbulent are understandably a lot harder to ditch now than normal.

Turbulent - Web platform, Spectrum, store, sales - Montreal, Canada

Behaviour Interactive - Concept art, Ships, 890 Jump, x85, mobiGlas, hangar flair - Montreal, Canada

CGBot - Artwork - Mexico Probable source of the leak from 2013

IllFonic - FPS module/1st unfinished version of Star Marine - Denver

Moon Collider - Kythera Artificial Intelligence middleware - Scotland

Rmory - weapon concept art - Bavaria, Germany

The Imaginarium - 63+ day Failed motion capture shoot - London

Wyrmbyte - Network engineering, Universe, Servers - Louisville Colorado

Virtuos - Ships, 1st version of the Cutlass, props - Shanghai, China

RedHotCG - props - Shanghai, China

voidALPHA - environment & concept art - Emeryville, California

Not even sure this covers all the ones we know about (faceware, Side for casting etc), never mind the ones that were never made public. Now consider that Chris Roberts doesn't seem able to do much himself, so he hires people, after a while the relationship normally ends. It now appears, the relationship sometimes ends very badly

Yes, you're missing:

Streamline Studios (Netherlands) - SQ42 Art (stuff in leak)

Massive Black (California) - Art

Atomahawk Design (England) - Art

Confetti Special FX (California) - Nebula tech and explosion particle effects

3lateral (Serbia) - Facial mapping

Cubic Motion (England) - Facial animation

Liquid Development (Oregon) - art

Holy furball, if this list is more or less trustworthy, the question is, what does the actual Star Citizen team do? Or is work just outsourced to other companies, or better say, how much work is outsourced?
