Star Citizen Discussions v7

I think is better to watch the commentary version, more is explained.

Let me guess, they make excuses for all the things that were wrong or missing or just bad, and claim they've already improved it all in a newer build.
Did they explain why they were too scared to run that demo as an actual livestream rather than as a streamed pre-recorded video?

I think they said they could focus on chatting with the community and building a strong bond during the stream or some such.

pretty much yea.

+1 didn't know that one, anywho CR recently said that he would not make a SC game again with the CE, so maybe he should have spent the money that was sinked into CEmod and created his own engine.

His incompetence is really shining through in full force now.

Well...he **should** have

Except it turns out he had an exclusivity agreement with CryTek and - more importantly - he'd got custom code he didn't want to give up.

Do you think he wanted to tell the backers who'd told him they'd be happy to wait for the increased scope that he had to pause development for three years while he wrote a new engine from scratch and recreated all the assets he'd already made?

It's what he should have done.
It's what he needed to do.

But it isn't what he did.

Is SQ42 a game we will actually play or is more of a concept game that we watch being pre-played for us then watch DVD extras like "Directors commentary" of the game we saw being played that couldn't be revealed until now because of spoilers. Is this the new paradigm of PC gaming? I kind of suspect this is the future where games development becomes soap opera and the eventual product isn't really a thing that anyone is interested in anymore.

In fact, that's not even the future anymore.

He? CR didn't do any of it. The idea that he would personally be coding a new engine is beyond funny :D

Can you.give us a synopsis bud?
I watched the uncommentated version. On the move today so probably wont get the chance to rewatch

They seems to be really aware of the problems in the demo.

Framerate
Animations
UI, Hud, player guidance...
Flight Model dogfight and FPS Feeling
Implementing proper Atmospheric flight model
Confirmed you don't have to use all the text around to interact with ship but can use hotkeys
They say now they have this foundation they want to improve all those aspects.

Also said player can play the game without the cutscenes. Same scenes but you stay in your avatar point of view and can move it.
Talk about cinematic experince they want Squ 42 to be...
"Game vertical slice" "early stage"
And lots of self congratulation specially from CR...

Isn't this something that people have been talking about for years though? The framerate, animations, UI and player guidance were all things brought up after the Morrow Tour demo.

The flight model has been complained about ever since its inception and the same probably goes for the FPS feeling since Star Marine's introduction.

One would think their job is to acknowledge these complaints and build on them instead of rolling with them for years and then making out it's something they need to improve. Odd.

So they will just ignore fact that they have spend six years on this? Ohh well...

Admitting mistakes and issues is good, ok, however can CIG have honest answer how they gonna move forward? How they will keep financing themselves?

LOL, are massively OP on a hate campaign against SC then? :D

Oh man, loving some of the comments. Our very own cotic made a post and here are two replies:

It’s already more successful that that game you like, x100.

So, a game that started at the same time (roughly) still doesn't have a release date in sight while the other has already been out 3 years, and somehow SC is more successful? Success of the game isn't measured by how much money you pull in. All it means is they have (or had) that much to spend on the game and salaries.... not that a better game will result. And why do they always want to compare with ED? Its not flattering for SC to be compared with ED at this moment in time... perhaps, just perhaps, if SC ever releases, then comparisons might be drawn.

cmdr – 5 years is nothing for any MMO. If they were in beta after 5 years, *then* I would be worried.

And (assuming we accept the MMO moniker for ED and SC - especially since at the moment SC can't hold as many people in an instance as ED) then somehow, magically, some companies have managed to produce MMOs in 5 years or less, including FD's ED. Yet somehow he'd be worried if they were already in beta? Somehow, i suspect that's some serious stockholm syndrome going on there, and that if they were in beta he would be saying how great it is they are in beta, and how CR is so wonderful he can get a beta out in just 5 years.

They do these every year and SC runs away with the worst awards pretty much year in year out :) It's the reason the subreddit hate massivelyop despite them covering every weekly show, their conventions and all that jazz.

Just gave it a quick try today. Framerate stays in single digits on my high end watercooled rig...
- Flight model is still pure garbage: instant accelerations to multiple mach numbers, and then instant braking from same speeds, vertical thrusters are hilariously overpowered so instead of trying to land your ship you just SLAM it into the ground until it stops somewhere (after a few bounces..), no weight, no inertia, all that with horrendous framerate makes flying a jarring experience
- Then going on foot i cannot name one thing that seems to work properly, you reach the limitations of the game engine so quickly, and the physics engine is also quite broken
- and then there's pretty much nothing to do as everything is still so crude or prototype-level
- so far No Man's Sky first early version was a lot better. That's a *very* low barrier, the lowest i can think of.
I'll pass on 3.0 then. So long for the "jesus patch" ?

According to my email from CiG, the version that is currently in PTU is going on general release to everyone tomorrow.

December 22nd, 2017

Dear Citizen,

Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 goes Live tomorrow. The latest build is currently in open PTU for all backers to play, but we’ll be make it an official Live release tomorrow to get more eyes and ships into the 'Verse to help stress test and identify the bugs to smash in the new year.

Now that the team had completed the heavy lifting to get the tech, content and systems for 3.0, they can focus on optimizations, feature consolidations, and polish for our first quarterly release

Thanks to all of our backers and the entire Cloud Imperium team for making this possible. The release expands the game and adds features, like procedural planetary tech, our new mission system, and the cargo and commodity system. It also introduces flyable ships like the Dragonfly, Nox, and an updated Cutlass Black.

The recently introduced Tumbril Nova is an imposing brute, but a closer look reveals a deceptively versatile tank. Learn more in a Q&A that highlights this iconic war machine. Also, check out our Around the Verse holiday special featuring extensive Squadron 42 gameplay.

Need the perfect gift this Holiday season? Pick up one of our discounted Starter Packages, like a chic Consolidated Outland Mustang, utilitarian RSI Aurora, or reliable Aegis Avenger? Check out all three exclusive packages here.

Our team will be taking a break over the holidays, and we’ll be back to full speed with our shows and updates on Jan 8th. We will, however, have episodes of Around the Verse airing on their usual day and time.

Happy Holidays, everyone.

For real?
