PvP Interesting Grief

Hudson Observatory rescue ship: Ran a passenger rescue mission in the Big B and found the pad occupied. Messaged to clear, but then a Fed Gunship rams and destroys me. I block that player and go back into open. Leave the hanger, and, you guessed it, he's still there and rams me again!

Only then did I realize they were working together. Interesting griefing tactic: Squatting the one large pad while your partner rams.

I'm rich, so other than the annoyance of an effort wasted, I'm not that ticked. I play in open and take my chances. If I see him or his lackey again, and I'm in my fighting ship, well... but I'm sure he'll run like a little girl.

No que. Had made prior runs, no large ship traffic other than his pad squatting buddy
Grief me once, shame on you. Twice, well, that's on me for being sloppy.

I've just added two more commanders to my KoS list is all.

I find that with or without griefers I still need to log out and into Solo to get a pad at these mega-ships, simply too much player traffic clogging up the 1 large pad....I think we should blame whoever designed these ships for the OP's problem in 2 monumental floors.

1. Limited pads, they expect large numbers of refugees but refuse to acknowledge the traffic required.

2. the mega ships are unarmed, so of bloody course there are going to be pirates and psychopathic murderers!

honestly, I should be designing these ships and things....game would be crime free....... :O

I play in open and take my chances.

Until someone does something you find inconvenient, then you block them?

I've never blocked anyone, so I don't know. But if it's possible to block players, shouldn't it be possible to unblock them?

It is.

So you blocked him and still instanced with him... working as designed I say

Was probably instanced with them both originally, got destroyed, only blocked one, was reinstanced with the unblocked ship due to weight from a previous successful connection, then had the block outweighed by friend or wing mechanisms. Could also have been excluded from some other instance upon rebuy by another block (which would be rather ironic), or may have had other previously instanced bystanders contributing their positive weights to instancing.

Without an actual list of the different factors that go into matchmaking and their respective weights, it's always going to be a very hit-or-miss feature. Should just dump the idea all together and make it a comms-only feature.

Awesome feature [big grin]

You rang ?

The way block works is you are less likely to be instanced with someone you've blocked, but it's not impossible.

However to be on the safe side and to make sure this feature is working as intended submit a ticket to FDEV, you'll get your rebuy reimbursed and by reporting both CMDR's hopefully they'll be a step closer to a ban.

More info on blocking here including an explanation of how it works (and why you should use it on griefers) from Sandro Sammarco the games lead designer : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ners-advice-on-dealing-with-griefing-(part-2)

I was employing irony since the OP promptly blocked the rammers, vowed revenge and opined that they would "probably run like little girls" if he ever caught up with them.

Somebody ran like a little girl, that's for sure:)

The OP's spot on, all griefers clog immediately when shot at it's one of the reasons block is the best way to deal with them.

Ban? Had no idea fdev care about random murders, no one in the history of griefers was ever banned from the game.

Oh, I didn't notice that you immediately blocked the one guy, OP.

That's cheese, dude. I want my rep back.

Not all…

In my experience the only people who ever clog are griefers and gankers, and they all do it immediately. My stats might be a bit skewed as I don't attack noobs and the defenseless but that's what I've seen in the game.

Shadow server bans for griefing are common and perma's have been known, with the name and shame rule I can't give you examples here though. So it depends on your google-fu (search tip they whinge and cry when it happens).
