Type-10 in VR - the new/better Anaconda

As a release day Rift owner I have almost 1500 hours in Elite in VR. I tend to greatly favor the smaller ships, with the Sidewinder, Eagle and Vulture being my favorites. I also love the cockpits of all the Lakons and trade in a T9 just for fun. I've done a trip to Sag A* and went in my Conda and hated every minute of it - the view is so awful. Low ceiling and long nose makes me feel like I'm in a big RV, a far cry from the huge open cockpits of the Lakons.

So for me the T10 is finally the big ship I want to use/fly. I've already finished my G5 PvE/Mat build - in short the ship I use to get engineering materials for other ships. Great at PvE bounty hunting, fighter, SRV, collectors, 1300MJ shields (plus 3 cell banks), etc. etc. And that view - that glorious view.

Yes, it's expensive - sell you Anaconda. Swap the modules and get your distributor and FSD engineered and you're ready. Don't know about Thargoids yet but I'm sure it's great there too. In short if you're a VR player and you like 'em big this is your girl.

Here's my current G5 Build

Agree? Disagree? Anyone hating on it?

Been hating the Annie lately... Felt like I was going to poke a hole in every star and station so the T10 was a breath of fresh air. Got to love the views. Sell my Annie to upgrade the T10. I'm going to keep my Vette for now. Like you I love small ships but I like the T10 a lot.

I spent a day, with mats already gathered buffing the T10, to the same outfitting spec as my tooled up Anaconda. In some regards the roles were a bit better for the T10.

The T10 is 20% slower and less maneuverable, 25% less shields and lower DPS, it has a slight hull advantage, nice view but it won't be replacing my Conda, unless it grows wings... Ooh.

I also dislike the Anaconda, mostly due to the pitiful cockpit view. I hated it so much, I've only flown it in the betas. I didn't want to waste the near certain 10% fee to sell it back.

So far, I like the Type-10, compared to the Type-9.

I've done some light engineering (grade-3 dirty drives and grade-5 FSD, just a few rolls with previously gathered materials). I've outfitted mine for exploration and long-distant trading (class D and A modules, no weapons, weak shields, big scoop, SRV bay, and scanners). The jump range is in the low 30s without cargo, but the jump range is still better than the AspX I flew to Beagle Point (back before engineers).

I really wish that FD would release a large Lakon ship (with the fishbowl cockpit) that could compete with an Anaconda, regarding jump-range. The Type-10 is close, but it's not quite competitive.

I have gobs of cash, so I have kept my Type-9, but I might sell it in the future.

Also hate the ani in VR. The only reason I fly one is to look up at it from the SRV because to me it looks bigger than the other big ones!

Might give the T10 a try.

Uh, yeah, his comments confused me too. Perhaps he meant T10 and was just stuck in the past....

I promise you you'll never fly your Conda again after the T10 in VR, especially when seeing it from the SRV. I remember early on the first time I saw a friend's T9 land next to me when I was in my SRV. I looked up and it was just about to swash me and I cried out "holy sh**" as the scale was just incredible. The T10 is far more impressive to me when viewed from an SRV, it was about the 2nd or 3rd thing I did after buying it.

After now having done some PvP combat in it I'm even more impressed - took out a good friend's rather strong Vulture and FDL and in both cases he couldn't have killed me as I could easily jump away. I won't call it unkillable - so far my T9 has been in 24 attempts and with the T10 being even stronger I'm guessing it is too. My T9 is named NO REBUY PLZ DONT KILL to troll folks, maybe the T10 should be YOURE WELCOME TO TRY, whaddya think?

Sorry guys, I prefer the conda above the T10 even with 7a thrusters and dirty drive 5.
It's like pulling a dead horse .

The view in VR is very good [yesnod], entering the station is a Wow.

No need to apologize, it's a matter of personal preference. All the big ships feel sluggish to me. I've outfitted my Type-10 with 7d thrusters and dirty drive 3; to me, it's worth it to cut the weight for exploration. That's what I'm currently flying; I've been able to avoid numerous NPC interdictions, but it's a challenging fight (which I'm enjoying).

At some point, I'll stop doing CG trading and switch back to my AspX, which is so nimble in comparison. When I do, it will remind me again of why the AspX is my favorite ship.

Agreed, no right or wrong here - I mean you're clearly wrong but hey, that's your call! :D Seriously though I also feel all the big ships are sluggish, my Conda might do 375 and my T10 275 but either way they are both sloooooow. My PvP Sidey is 650 and my iEagle boosts to 878 so the difference is negligible to me. To me it's view is so so so much better than the other fatties that she wins me over big time - and there's nothing like seeing 4 beams and 4 multis all lighting up a target 2k in front of you with a packhound rack adding to the fray. That's fun.

Agreed , glad i got rid of the anaconda, the view is so amazing in the type 10.
Thinking on switching to a 7 class shield instead of 8 and some more hull tanking , but yeah basically the same fit as yours.

Your fuelscoop take ages to refill so you are very vulnerable at entering a system .
I have a class 6A and it take very long time to refuel.

My Annie is still a keeper. Thought it would be melted down after the Corvette but its still a great boat even if it has some dust gathering.
Now the 10 is on the field and after the loop for outfitting its still a brick in supercruise turning,...better in normal space DD G5.
I must say I am a fan of the new space brick in every way. Jumps 30ly and has power to run every option available including fighter bays. My thanks to ED for giving me another interesting boat to build and kick the tires on.

I put an 8A scoop on mine and the refill rate is insane. It's great for exploration, but I'm thinking of trying a 7A, to free up my largest slot.

I dig the T-10, but can we, for the love of the Spaghetti Monster, stop slapping spoilers on every bloody thing? I hate that with a passion. I have no problem with it if it was a ship kit. But it's not. It looks out of place, it looks ugly, it looks tacked on, it has no function other than making it look like a 10-year old designed the thing. Seriously, the hell is going on with the ship design team? Make the ship look unique, add things to the model that make bloody sense. Ugh.

T-10 is great in VR.

Mild disquiet about the:

- console. Watch who you buy from. Bought mine new, but when I took delivery the console was covered in scratches! Only buy from a reputable dealer. :)
- engine noise when boosting. Awesome, but can't hear myself think (not missing much I know).
- fit-out cost. Well, for the curious, A rated everything except life support and sensors and it cost nearly 500 million credits on top of the buy...ouch.
- handling...like a cow of course (well is a revamped T-9), but it does mean I have to anticipate obstacles, speed, etc. which is cool.

Brings me onto another topic. Doesn't matter how big your ship is or how careful your are, traffic control always blames you when an NPC in a small ship gets impatient ducks into the slot. Sheesh [haha]. Have a real gripe about the mission board. Lots of 1 - 2 million credit cargo hauls around the 180 tonne mark which are "unavailable" because my ship is now too large. Just makes me cry. On the up side, can't wait 'til a pirate interdicts me. Hull strength right up there out of the box, oodles of power and lashings of utilities and turreted weapons. Be interesting.

Anyway, all in all, a great ship and good view, so fun to fly.

Running this on the t10.

https://eddp.co/u/3XrSeibq

Quite fun, can take on most things in a Haz res with relative comfort.
The PDS is however a tad small for combat though, although I suppose the goal of this is to be an armor tanker, but last time I tried armor tanking was still so nerfed into oblivion by the module\canopy damage you take.

Also as with fighting in the t9, the t10 really needs FA off.

You're kidding, right? Depending on which of my 3 T10's I'm flying I wouldn't call any "vulnderable", did you look at my build? My trade build has the same shield setup with 1400MJ and 50%+ resistances across the board - it's all but unkillable. Given how few ships can mass lock it I can even low wake easy enough, in fact I named my PvE/Material Gathering on "YOUR WELCOME 2 TRY" and my trade on "NO REBUY PLZ DONT KILL" to troll gankers and pirates. And with my trade one I don't run a fuel scoop as I only do CG trade and only when my tank is large enough to not have to scoop anyway.

...its still a brick in supercruise turning....

Oh my gawd is it ever - I got in my 860 m/s Courier after 2 days in the T10 and the difference was amazing. Really this is my only major annoyance with the T10.

I put an 8A scoop on mine and the refill rate is insane. It's great for exploration, but I'm thinking of trying a 7A, to free up my largest slot.

Even a 7A is overkill for exploration as you'll scoop fast enough that you shouldn't ever have to actually stop to scoop. Normally I'd say that's silly as there's usually something better you could put in the bigger slot but this thing has so much room it's not a biggie - plus who in there right mind would go exploring in this thing?! I know it can be done but with it's handling in supercruise it'd be awful. Just take an AspX, better view, much longer range and MUCH more nimble in supercruise - and plenty of room for all you need.

.....for the love of the Spaghetti Monster, stop slapping spoilers on every bloody thing?

It's HORRIBLE isn't it?!? What is this thing, a blood 1998 Honda Civic?? Seriously, spoilers are for downforce and I'm pretty sure it doesn't need that nor do we fly in atmospheres - I've already seen requests for a ship kit that would *remove* that damn thing.

....can't wait 'til a pirate interdicts me. Hull strength right up there out of the box, oodles of power and lashings of utilities and turreted weapons. Be interesting.

As PvP piracy is what I do 90% of the time (when I'm not gathering materials for engineering) I'm looking forward to having a go at one - you're right that it'll be a tough one but I've gotten cargo from plenty of T9's so we'll see. BTW trying to use turrets while getting pirated is about useless - the jitter is so awful and the DPS so low that I wouldn't even bother. At most use Ion/Dispersal/Canister Lock mines as catching an unsuspecting noob with them is fun - otherwise just charge and jump, high wake if it's bigger and you'll never die. Maybe you'll lose some cargo from hatch breakers.

The issue is reverb mines will make short order of your shield generator, the hull is another story and would be tough but most trade T10s are gonna be 1000 or maybe 2000 if they go Military/HD - but I'm sure with traders that's gonna be rare.

I'm going to do at least some exploration in mine. I love my AspX, but I fly it 95% the time, so I'd like something different for a change.

Although I don't play in VR, the view is still phenomenal on this ship (I do have headlook). I've really been enjoying it.
