The Star Citizen Thread v8

Having downloaded 30-odd GB of the alpha 3.0 and had a bit of go, all I can say is that I am so thankful that Frontier took the different path of developing and releasing something playable with the aim of then building on it instead of waiting until everything was 'finished'. But I'm not trying to be critical of SC itself as a game here - it's the scope creep brought on by the influx of an insane amount of money and CR's seeming lack of preparedness to reign in expectations to focus on releasing something within a reasonable timeframe. I backed a less complex suite of promises and expected to at least get SQN 42 if the multiplayer proved a mess, only to watch ridiculous sums of money raised and the scope of complexity of the game's development was allowed to grow as a result. Had they just kept to their original scope instead of getting trapped into so many stretch goals (and more), we would likely be playing a release version by now. The game itself looks promising, but it seems to me that it's so bogged down in over ambitious development goals and complex systems integration challenges, and has been for a while, that I just don't know when I'll see something legitimately playable on my setup. If ever.

Is there even any kind of exploration gameplay mechanics yet?

“Some kind” yes, because that leaves such a wide margin to play with.

It's mainly the “not actual exploration” kind, but that's kind of inherent in relying on instancing and having a very very tiny game world. It kind of forces the whole thing to be more along the lines of sight-seeing and tourism than anything that could honestly be called exploration.

Also, the tourist-trap sight-seeing spot is just a single whack-a-mole machine on a 20m long pier.

Yeah, but the mole whacks above its weight...

Star Citizen Spawns More Bugs! Would You Like To Know More

Even the Mobile Infantry would struggle killing all the Star Citizen bugs.

Ex backer and whale Bootcha is doing a video series about SC. This should be both informative and fun.

Overture....

N.B. He was not just a “whale” or a “backer”. He didn't donate. He was very very close to being an actual investor in the regular financing sense of the word, and the only reason I'd say he's even that far off is because of the agreement he shows off in that video, which precludes him from discussing the details of his dealings with CIG.

There's no wink-wink, nudge-nudge part to it — when asked, he can quite simply neither confirm nor deny anything dealing with that investment. Just note that when he keeps calling it an investment, he does not mean it in the wholly inaccurate way that some crowdfunders occasionally refer to their purchases (or in proper crowdfunding, their donations) as “investments.” He's being very precise in when and how he uses the word, and for good reason.

You can fly anywhere and look around. I hear there are some ultra-fidelity ship wrecks on one of the moons begging to be discovered. What else do you want? What kind of exploration mechanics would you like to see?

Uss, scanners, and the likes

What's the point of exploration if it just go to a predetermined POI everytime?

The empire doesn't even have an apparel pipeline. [haha]

Sigh, the Emperor's outfit is still in alpha, its supposed to look like it's not there. Secondly, this is the normal amount of time it takes to make an Emperor's outfit, most tailers simply don't tell us until their outfits are ready - Roberts Suit Imporium is giving us unprecedented access that some people who don't know anything about clothes development are just not ready for. Thirdly, it's still fine because the first couple of years were spent building RSI up so they don't count as developmenr years. Fourthly, we are entitled to nothing, RSI is making the suit they want to wear, we should be grateful for the opportunity to be a part of (ie pay for) it. Sigh.
