ELITE - Having a hard time waiting

Hey all,

today I want to mention that Elite in general is not only a time consumpting but also a time wasting game. Just meeting friends not far may cause an immense time loss. I can head over quickly with my fast travel Anaconda, but this one is not fitted for anything else. Even by forgetting the incedible amount of credits for getting my bigger combat vessels transported most of my friends already called it a night and went to bed before my needed ship arrives.

Greetings, Imo

Don't wait anymore then. Step away from the computer, go outside and enjoy some sunshine instead. Or read a book. Watch a movie.

Insta-travel transfer ships will never be available in this game, however. :)

Frankly, ship transfer times and fees should be chopped in half - at a minimum. All it does is increase the tedium and keep you from getting to the fun bits of Elite.

The transfer times are pretty damn stupid, they're just telling you to stop playing for half an hour or more likely the next day if you have a dayjob besides the game. The prices inside the bubble and surrounding ghettos are fair though IMAO.

Ugh, this again. Sorry if im a little short but this crops up every now and then and imo the game has already swung massively towards instant gratification.

The bubble is about 400ly across. Jump ranges are 460% odd bigger than they were. Sol to Beagle point is 6h 35min. Sol to Colonia is 1hr 47min. Sol to Sag A* is 2hrs dead and they are thousands upon thousands of ly away.

Even the slowest 15ly ship can cross the bubble in 30min or so. The galaxy has been made smaller and smaller and its enough. Get a decent multipurpose ship like an Asp or a DBX or a Python and with engineers theyll make 20 odd Ly...

If you are doing the trip regularly enough for it to be an issue consider either you or your friend moving home systems closer to each othet.

OP: If you are waiting around for ships - you are doing it wrong. Work out where you need to be, transfer your ships in time, go do something else fun in the game (I know right - there are multiple things you can do - how cool!), then when you know the ship is there go and pick it up.

Anyway, go and ask at the stores for a long weight - when you have it then come back for the rest of the answer :)

And I always thought that travelling is part of the game, silly me.

My corvette makes a 18ly jump combat ready ... my type 10 makes 20Ly jumps combat ready .... Engineered of course but still ... at this point as long as your not using like a gunship or a fdl its not going to take many jumps.

The wait time for ship transfer does not create immersion nor does it add anything useful in the game. I'd be ok with a 5 minute wait, but for example a ship sent to Colonia, aside from costing more than the build itself, takes almost 3 days.

I could understand if if you were getting something that's in the ship you couldn't get elsewhere, but you already get to magically keep all your materials and data, and you can buy the modules elsewhere. Therefore the time sink for ship transfer is simply to keep people from using the same META build for travel. No one would use their large build if they could jump 65ly with a bare bones ship and then just pick up the battle tank locally.

Maybe pay more for express? I'd be ok with that.

If you're sat around waiting for a ship to arrive, you're doing it wrong. Lol

I tend to run missions while I wait for my ship.
But then, 99% of the time, I just fly ships with a decent jump range, and which are capable for more than 1 task.

Which is essentially the Anaconda.

Just fly the Anaconda.

This game should be called Elite: Anaconda.

IMHO, the variation in jump ranges is to high. Similar sized ships, outfitted in a similar manner, should have similar range. Not a massive 10-15ly difference.
I just makes those ships tedious to fly.
In my opinion.

You should have played Star Wars Galaxies when it was new and you had to wait on quarter hourly Starships to transport between one planet and another. Sometimes a round trip home and back could take you an hour or more.

I would be somewhat more sympathetic if you & your wing of gankers were not responsible for my noobish DBS rebuy ~2.5 years ago! Oh yes, old 'friend', I remember you, Imo...ramming me in the ring with your python!! <To clarify for the less mature reader - the ring of a HazRES in my home system!>

Dammit - 'lost the dramatic 'Khan v Kirk' gravitas with that last bit!
Stop sn1ggering...stop it!!
