Is ED on life support? A terminal decline?

Yeah. 2.75M are base game and Horizons and Commander Deluxe version - so it is quite hard to tell how many players are actually there.

I think 300k - 500k regular or less regular players is quite believable.

Also consider that for some time now you can refund game if you haven't played longer than two hours.

Im hoping that once Jurassic World Evolution has released to its 7/10 with 250k copies sold that FDev pour resources back into Elite for a second wind.

Personally I believe that with Frontier self publishing and buying up movie licenses they want a seat at the AAA table, hence the cash injection share sale, new offices and 3 solid titles.

Unfortunately FDev exist to make money for shareholders so I expect to see some titles that are easy to monetize with a casual audience rather than dedicated enthusiast titles.

No flare = not moderation. I'm just a player too.

Ah, sorry, I must have been misled by the moderator title above yer pic there.

How very dare you! - 'Implying that moderators can't post objectively! After all, it's not like they have an all-consuming desire/agenda to ingratiate themselves with the devs, or anything!

Oh no, I fear that my infraction : post ratio might well increase now!? 'Not implying the mods would be so dishonourable as to let personal feelings affect their moderation decisions, ofc - that's the sort of thing Enderby would say (look he's at it again in this thread); on behalf of Eagleboy, Factabulous & myself....pls ban - objectively - him, asap!

Is there a moderator ombudsman? Or do they just do as they wish with zero consequences? I take it any email to Frontier would go straight to the trash folder? Does the power (lol) appeal to them...similar to traffic wardens & parking attendants?

....just riffing now!

How dare you. I would never imply that the forum moderators are anything other than balanced, fair and utterly impartial in their comments or judgements.

I thank you.

I see I'm late to this thread but I think with the new influx of players that it might be worth commenting still. I think on the 9th when you originally made this thread, that could have been true. Hell, I'm on Xbox and I've almost never seen another soul. When I have seen other players, it's been at CG's and they've been the most toxic, combat logging griefers ever (Not trying to single out all Xbox players, I just mean that I've been seriously unlucky in that respect and there have been a few good ones). However with the latest sale, I've seen the player base explode and not just on my platform, we have new players joining our group from allover.

Maybe your comment was true on the 9th, maybe it wasn't but Elite just got a second wind so I'm happy with things right now.

FYI on the "I've almost never seen another soul" thing- this probably has more to do with the networking technology used by ED than it does with player participation. ED uses P2P instancing, so it's very possible that even if there were thousands of players at the same time online you may not even see them. (which is another thing people tend to forget when they say the game is "devoid" of players)

But what if Brett made a rules-breaking post?

As I would imagine that it was Brett that made the rules he likely has the ability to nerf them on a post by post basis. ;)

At the end of the day though, when Brett posts on here he’s at work, and if you’ve ever had a job where you have to deal with people then you’ll know that calling someone a dbag isn’t a good way to keep your job, no matter how much they deserve it. :)

So we've established thus far the game is not in "terminal decline", nor "dead".

Existentially, I suppose it could be argued that it's "dying" as we all are from the moment we take our first breath. :p

(Remember thou art mortal!)
