Anyone else trying to G5 everything before the change?

So, as the title states I'm currently on a mission to G5 mod all relevant modules on my most used ships, just in case the dev's don't take to their senses and remove the G1 to G5 progression madness.

Anyone else doing this during the holidays?

Personally I have 6 ships (Cutter, Type-10, FDL, Python, Clipper and AspX) that need the following, in order of priority:

FSD - Long Range
Thrusters - Dirty Drives
Power Plant - Overcharged
Power Dist - Charge Enh.
Shield - Reinforced
Sh. Boost - Heavy Duty
Sh. Boost - Res. Augm.
M. Cannon - Overcharged
Lazers - OC / Rapid
Armour - Heavy Duty

60-70 G5 mods, and I'm about a third of the way there. Only doing one G5 roll per module, to ensure I'll be starting at the top of whatever progression is introduced.

If Sandro's current concept of the Engineer grade grind holds fast for the revamp, then yeah I'll be G5'ing a lot of modules in preparation to avoid the new grind wall. Who really wants engineering to be more grindy than it already is? :S

The good news is we have three months until anything is changed in game so there is plenty of time to prepare.

Eh, not really. It's all going to be a slog-fest once it's implemented anyhow.

Now or later- we'll still have to do the grueling G1-G5 thing for each and every new module in the future.

Not at all looking forward to it, but it's apparent they're hell-bent on making it happen regardless.

Eh? What's all this then? New grind on top of old? Hoo boy, I better go read up on this. I didn't know the "Beyond" meant turning the grind up to 11.

I have already G5'd everything on my ships that I can. It's for me a part of setting up a ship I plan to keep. Not going to go out of my way to collect a pile of random G5 modules just in case I may need them in the future.

Going to miss the G1 low emission power plant with increased power output though. Those are my favorite.

Thankfully :) I am unlocking the last required Engineer now (Didi Vatermann, seriously who thought 50 Lavian Brandy was a good idea for a fetch quest?). Apart from the FDL then all ships have G5 FSD's and Dirty Drives, but the rest is a bit of a mixed bag. Will take me some time, especially given that I'm lacking a few hard to find materials.

I spent already many days modding a whole lot of stuff on a whole lot of ships because of the announced changes ^^

But not everything, only thing I made sure to do on every ship is FSD and Thrusters. Then depending on the Ship I do some other stuff here and there.

Yes indeed. Check out the feedback forum, and add your voice to the rather large amount of negative feedback this part of the proposed change has received.

I have been avoiding the Engineers as much as possible, mainly due to the grindy nature of material gathering and very unrewarding RNG implementation (both for the materials and the mods). Now that I know the mods will be possible to max out fairly easily, then I guess it will be worthwhile doing one G5 roll for every module on my most used ships :) The result won't matter as that will be sorted out with the new system.

I am, mostly done for every ship worth having (imo). Ranked up for the vette just for this and got the T10 as well. Need a few more light weight mods on LS and Sensors and I am done. I only have 4-5 ships that I fly often, all the rest I am happy to just take 90% or better rolls. Lots of material hunting :)

I've been upgrading certain modules to G5, but not all. Some things, like long range weapons are better left at G1. Those things that can be classified as royal pains (DD5 comes to mind) are already there. Looking forward to seeing what the new system brings.

Why would I, I'm not daft… I'd rather have five easy rolls with a pretty much guaranteed decent outcome and my pick of extras than a total lottery :D

In the new system you will need 3x4=12 rolls just to reach G5, for every single module. Then you can start increasing your G5 mod by subsequent rolls. Getting one G5 roll on every module now saves you the grind from G1 to G5 for however many modules you have. In my case that is about 12 x 70 = 840 rolls, all with different materials and blueprints compared to a G5 mod.

Wish Frontier would fix the material and data limits. I spend 10x more time tossing excess materials and data than collecting them. Plus those stupid useless Engineer commodities.

The new proposal includes 100 limit per material, and a material broker to trade stuff you don't need. Which is good stuff :)

Actually you need to "maximise the benefits" of the lower tiers before you can move on to the next tier. This means that you may very easily need to do more than three rolls per tier as the results are still random.

I'm not sure a G5 roll now can be continued upon in the new version, as the mod is grandfathered. You may lose the entire effect of the curent mod and need to reroll from the start none-the-less. So I would not bet on them being transferable.

Just do a single G5 roll unless you plan to keep the modules as-is and presume the worst. Also remember that having the new storage means you can keep all the stuff you would normally toss, and get a lot of low grade rolls "for free" this way. I actually have no problem with needing to reroll from the start on new modules, as all the G1/G2/G3 mods are easy to get materials that you scoop up looking for the rarer stuff anyway. Just do a few Dav's Hope runs and you will have 100 each of the none-rare items in an hour or so.

With the Exception of the Sidewinder I started the game with, I've long since G5'd all my ships. It's something I do whenever I buy a new one - Outfit it, then fly the loop to all the Engineers and G5' everything I want G5'd.

There are a few ships I don't G5 everything on - My Orca for one, I use a G1 Low Emissions Power Plant on to keep it cool, as I don't have need for massive power output. Same with my passenger Beluga. That G1 Low Emissions is just enough power reduction to ensure I can keep all the lights on and the hot tubs running and enough cooling to keep me from baking when I jump.

Yea, this new engineer crap is just that...

I have one ship that I want to buy/build, but other than that my current thinking is that I will not be buying any more ships or trying to engineer anything after the new changes go into effect. Or at least until I see/understand what they deliver.

Given FD's history of half-baked ideas being implemented I will reserve judgement until then, but I'm not getting my hopes up. If they screw this up, I will play the game with what I have until I tire of it (and spending no more money on it), and then throw it away.

And I will build/engineer that last ship before the changes are released. ;)

Sandro has said that G5 mods will be downgraded to the top of the G4 category when you go to reroll in the new system. So you'd be able to start a new G5 mod from scratch while still avoiding the dozen plus rolls in the G1-G4 blueprints just to get there, essentially bypassing all of that new grinding.
