Landing on planets in the Type 10 must be what Hell is like

I just spent ten, yes TEN, minutes trying to get that fat son of a to realise that a flat surface isnt "uneven terrain". And its been like that every time I need/want to land on planets. I cant remember having this much of an issue with any other big ship, at all.

So Im thinking, maybe FD could implement an "auto land" feature? Or fix the problem, but come on lets be real here. Your ship already does it when you recall it, and it would be appreciated if I didnt have to spend ten minutes every hour with nothing to do but contemplate my life choices.

Thoughts? Am I just unlucky? Do I need to "git gud"?

I have landed at three different planets in my t10 no problem. Even dismissed ship, re called and got back in etc no problem

I'm on pc

Yeah I had a really hard time landing at the Thargoid sites with the Type-10 whereas not so much with the Anaconda and the Python. It was bad enough that I stopped using my Type-10 for Palin thargoid artifact missions.

Have to say I agree with the Op, countless hours flying the T9 into planets all around the galaxy, first landing in a T-10 and it refused to find a spot, once it did find a spot it had issues locking down. I've taken the T9 into far more uneven terrain and it locks down perfectly.

The issue is unique to the T-10, it has nothing to do with it's footprint, T9 is similar, no problems at all.

@Op - If you wanna bug report it I can add some videos tomorrow.

Well, the T-10 is really big and covers a lot of ground so a lot of ground has to be "suitable" in order for it to land. I have not tried landing on a planetary surface in one, yet but am looking forward to it. o7

Which is why I mentioned the footprint. The T-10's foot print is identical to the T9. Definitely something up with the T-10. Not saying the ship is impossible to land, just that the terrain sensor is waay too sensitive, and refuses to lock down when clearly the terrain is suitable.

I had this issue earlier, i spent 30 minutes attempting to land. I found multiple spots but as i got closer to the ground they suddenly become unsuitable terrain.

I even went in camera suite only to find out virtually everywhere would actually be fine for the ship to land yet the ship was having none of it.

Can we please just have the ability to drop the SRV from the ship when low enough to the ground?

I agree the T-10 has severe problems to land on planetside locations,
even if the terrain is very flat.

By the way, do those appendages below the frame
look like bombs to you?
To me they sure do, only missing the INRA print over them.

While I believe u are correct, is the landing gear in a different spot? Perhaps to close or too far? Or to small or not ajar? (Sorry couldn't help the Dr. Seuss reference)

As far as I am aware the main hull is pretty much identical. The T-10 is basically a T9 with a ship kit. Could be slight differences in landing strut spacing. Still, take a look at the Cutter, that thing is a true beast, like the T9, no issues landing unless the terrain is very uneven. The T-10 is like 'Nope, not landing unless it is paved asphalt'

Its broken... OBVIOUSLY.

I have compared it to 6 other ships I have stored at one of my planetary bases. Landing them all at the same area just outside the perimeter of The Stross Installation near the Cubeo System. (HIP 5623) A relatively smooth surface compared to a typical planet. Billiard Ball smooth from orbit.

ALL of my big ships have no problem landing at this spot, including the Corvette, Cutter and Type-9, but the T-10 can't. The BLUE indicator color change never appears. If I skim around for about 5-10 minutes I can eventually find a spot it will touch down, but if I recall the ship from that spot, it comes back down, and then just hovers over the ground with its gear down.

Like I said... BROKEN! OBVIOUSLY!

I have submitted a bug report "ticket" to FDev and will follow that up when they get back into the office on the 2nd. In the meantime, my advice would be not to bother using the ship with an SRV. Those who are able to land are just getting lucky.

I'm on PC by the way.

2 things help with landing the T10.

1) When you're touching the surface, turn FA off to let the ship "settle" naturally.
2) If that doesn't work, thrust upward slightly, yaw left/right slightly and then repeat #1.

My guess is that it has to do with the "ship kit" they put on it. The hit box for the T10 is different than the T9, I suspect, and something is poking out lower than it maybe should and is causing interference on uneven surfaces.

I think I'll just wait till they fix the bug. ;)

Having to jump through a bunch of hoops even to land on a smooth planet is ridiculous. Not to mention the high probability that when recalled, it won't land, so you will have to Self Destruct your SRV to get back in!

FUN! [rolleyes]
