Is ED on life support? A terminal decline?

ED is and always has been on life support.

No, this isn't a fire and doom post, it's a simple fact.

Frontier keeps too much control too close to the vest and it inhibits the sandbox potential of the game. I don't know if it's a deliberate choice or if it's a technical limitation they can't overcome, but there it is.

And Steamspy puts the 2 week player base over 130k. :) I know it was down to 80k just a month ago or so.

Just saw. Ninjad. :)

The game was available for 5 EUR or something, there also have been quite a lot of negative reviews the last days. To be fair though, most reviews are by people who are unable to dock or even launch the game.

The game does have a high bar to get into. I put it back on the shelf after the first try. It wasn't until my son got a HOTAS and let me try it that I picked it up again, and haven't quit since.

This is like politics. People nodding at each other whilst refusing to stand in another one's shoes. People ganging up talking about people ganging up.

Is this how it's going to be in society?... Shut anyone down, mock them, belittle them; if they don't fit your view?

"First they came for...."

Images taken 12:00 'today' direct off steam.

Thanks. I didn't quite realise ED was doing that badly. A review score drop to 52% is truly shocking. That places E:D in the bottom 10% of Steam games.

This does not bode well if the latest price cut to £5 is an indicator of Frontier's new business model. Continuing to put E:D down to £0 (free-to-play) would drive the review score through the floor. And whatever we think about Steam reviews, that would certainly kill almost all sales of the game.

Correct. The changes they're making relates to common core functionality, except for Engineering which will change as well.

Coincidentally the newsletter has just covered Beyond and is implying that free applies only to Horizons owners.

"We have a lot to look forward to next year, starting with our first Beyond update, hitting in Q1. The Beyond series of updates will be free to all owners of Elite Dangerous Horizons and will include enhancements to Engineering, Crime and Punishment, wing missions and much more"

If enhancements to Crime and Punishment, wing missions etc. are free to free to all owners of Elite Dangerous, why are Frontier saying only that they are free to "all owners of Elite Dangerous Horizons"??

I think I may have created a thread over the past five years in a very small number. I could be out of touch but whilst the game aint dead and I am not wishing it to be, I've take a look at steam counts, views on ob ants and so on.. Its not looking that greatt tbh..

I've started getting into EvE again.

I wouldn't bother going to EvE - I was just looking at their forums, and apparently the game is dying...the OP even had some steam data to back it up, so it must be true!

Seriously though, a variant of this thread shows up every two to three weeks on every forum for every single online game out there, and has been popping up on this forum since Beta...nothing new here.

I've seen negative reviews on Steam from players who have 100+ hours in the game.

I think you mean 100 hours in the launcher. Steam doesn't report hours in the game.

As a recent Steam review says, "It's easy to get so many hours - just forget to turn off launcher couple of times."
