The epic fail of Beyond

ED is dying... very slowly but its dying can see it coming a mile off.
Its a real shame aswell game has been and remains amazing ( give or take the few much needed changes) even the long standing ED streamers dont stream ED as much as they where and TBH most of the hardcore ED streamers these day dont really play ED they have it on in background an talk about bits of ED.
If BEYOND fails to satisfy the player base will leave.
Similar cases.. Destiny (bungie) The division( massive/ubisoft)

Let me put this here at the last day of the year and I will come back to it at the same day next year to see if I was right or wrong.

I saw the clue in other thread which leads to conclusion as topic says about Beyond. The last update *The Squadrons* was announced with these words:

* Squadrons - Players like working together, w so we’re going to add a new organisation structure for player groups, called Squadrons. You’ll be able to create your own squadron with tools to manage its hierarchy and membership. Squadrons will feature enhanced communication options, making it easier to coordinate your efforts, whether you’re doing completing community goals, supporting your power or manipulating the background simulation. And as a little treat, squadrons will be able to purchase a fleet carrier, giving members a mobile base of operations where they can restock, refuel and respawn.*

If we liken the BGS to a house at the present state of the game, we, the players, are allowed to repaint the fence. We have small brushes and limited choice of colors to do the job. We have already repainted the fence in all colors of the rainbow… countless times and we are fed up with this. We have said thousands of times in forum: repainting the fence is shallow activity, boring. We want to build a dog hut in the corner of backyard. We need a hammer, saw, nails and few boards, that’s all. What we will have instead in Q4 2018? A huge tractor capable of digging holes, but we will be allowed to repaint the fence with it. Can you smell disappointment? CG, PP and BGS manipulation were, are and will be shallow gameplay despite the way they will be carried out. Nobody sane could be personally engaged in any activity which doesn’t benefit him. CG, PP and BGS will always be exploited by players in short term but cannot provide gameplay to keep players busy for years.

A lot hopes are concentrated in Beyond. It was announced as *Beyond will focus on three things: narrative progression, enhancements and development of the core experience and adding new features and content to the game.*

Repainting the fence with different and more powerful tools is not new feature and content. It is the same shallow and boring gameplay we chew for three years and apparently forth is underway. One of my very first comments in this forum was about the ridiculous C&P system back in the middle of 2015. It took two and half years to someone to realize that the game needs more adequate C&P system. I’ve seen a lot of rage quits in forum because of lack of C&P system i.e. the FD has lost its customers. How many inadequate design decisions the game can take and why?

Another my comment at this time was that nobody will take PP seriously, because nobody will put efforts for prosperity, honor and glory of NPC. Unfortunately I was right: PP is dead, will I be right this time?

How do you get to Elite without having one insurance claim

This just this.

Squadrons sound like a great expansion to the mmo, (and perhaps multi-crew) aspect of the game, where players can team up together as groups on the core goals already inherent. imo, I don't think allowing player access to control whole stations, bases/cities or worlds is conducive to the core ED gameplay, and "beyond" will hardly be a "fail". I think OP is asking for more than the current gameplay seeing as how he seems maxed out already in what ED has to offer.

What I would like to see added to "core" gameplay is basically spacelegs with rpg aspects. Yes, a full blown rpg with MUD-like mechanics (where the basic action takes 3 to 5 seconds on the real-time clock). Where players could actualy gain "exp" and "levels" in a system mostly separate from the ship rankings and different "classes" types. Where a player could have an itemized room on their ship, or in an apartment room on a station , a small base on a planetoid but nothing really bigger than that to save on resources of the ED framework. Then everything else could be made for interaction for the spacelegs rpg aspect but not player owned. (Perhaps powerplay major factions could have a select limited number of stations to serve as spacelegs-capable stations) "items" could be text only for both spacelegs player avatar and tools or items for use in the ship, and would show on text interfaces, again to save on framework resources. Later on, player skills could influence bonuses to ship performance, capability etc. And current ship ranks could add significant "reputation" bonuses for the spacelegs-rp gameplay and interaction with npcs. Just an idea how spacelegs could actually improve and add more core ED gameplay, if FDev ever decide to expand on this route.

oh nos oh nos, its the end of the world as we know it. Mystic Meg has foreseen our doom. We're doomed. It'll all end in tears.

So what. Nothing last forever. BF42 was ace when all the creeps left for BF2 and BF3. The core remaining who played, could play properly and were free. Happy days.

Every cloud etc, and funny how stuff happens that you didnt expect. Stuff happens and all that. Mostly positive unexpected and bonus surprises.

I prefer to keep an open mind. Albeit one mildly sedated.

You declare Beyond a disappointment before you have seen anything.
Beyond is more than Squadrons, thank god, because I do not care one iota about multiplayer mechanics as I do not and will not ever use them.
I never use multiplayer Wings
I never use multiplayer CQC
I never use multiplayer crew
I will never use multiplayer Squadrons.

Out all of these what I want most of all is a cool npc crew mechanic, as that would enrich my ED game experience.

For 'Beyond' I do hope that FDev can seriously improve the core mechanics of ED.
I would be happy as a child If we could get:
- an improved exploration mechanic with less mindless honking, but instead with the use of launchable planetary exploration probes,
- a deeper bounty hunting mechanic with a license system based on powerplay territories,
- a deeper piracy mechanic with for example letters of marque,
- an improved asteroid mining mechanic (already announced) with an added planetary mining mechanic
- npc crew mechanic

For all of these essential core mechanics I made proposals.

Perhaps I am alone in this, but the narrative progression is something I do not care about at all. Not one bit.
I just consider the narrative to be a measured mechanic to add new content to the ED universe.
Currently it is used to slowly introduce Thargoid stuff to the galaxy.
I am very happy with the Thargoid stuff, but I do not care about the story.
I just want there to be cool aliens in the ED universe.

I do not play ED for the big story. I think it is by its very nature unsuitable for that kind of personally experienced story progression.
That is why most players only see that stuff on youtube, or read about it on the forums.
For most of us it is an experience by proxy.

I'm not all that interested in squadrons and carrier ships and working with other players on a daily basis. However, I'm very interested in exploration and maybe even mining, so if Beyond delivers on its promises in these two areas, and it fixes all the bugs that have been vexing me since 2.4, I'll be quite happy :D

Clearly this isnt one of them threads then considering you have read it:/

You misunderstand: I'm referring to those tech mags, the ones that live and die in airport newsagents.

I find these doomsday threads compelling and never fail to at least scan the OP, which in this case was worth it for the above quote alone!

This^^ + improvments to trade

Beyond? to keep our eyes blind it will bring one new ship and one new mission. And i almost forgot, 20 new ship textures include rainbow and clown style.

Yes, im that pessimist. It looks like they work in steady mode last year. They only add necessary things to keep game alive. I hope im wrong.

Well put.

I'd be as giddy as a pig in plop if they introduced a mechanic where I could hire an NPC crew member(s), have them grow in the role, have them actually sit in that empty seat, be a crew member you 'care' about keeping alive.

I'm looking forward to Beyond, as I have will all previous updates. I do not play CQC, have not tried Multicrew (as few of my online friends appear to do it either), Wings lasted me a day, PP just doesn't work for my play style and Engineers appears to be a big casino jolly. That said, I've looked forward to the release of these and even after release am glad they exist as they have put a little more meat on the ED bone.

The Thargoid narrative has kinda passed me by a bit, probably due to the drawn out nature of it all, but equally due to it not being my thing for what I want from ED. But, I'm glad it's there, I've enjoyed the additional assets it has brought to the game and I like the focus quite a number of Cmdr's have put into the whole experience, again, more flesh on the bone.

If FD were to implement something close to what Iskariot has itemised here it would go a massive way in increasing my enjoyment of ED.

Role on Q1 2018, I'm looking forward to what's coming.

:)

No I dont think yer right OP...partly because their expo in october was possibly one the best things about the whole past year. Im waiting fer the exloration love which has nothing to do with CnP or PP in the first place. Squadrons wont make any impact whatsoever either nor BGS manipulation. So from my perspective, they are fixing the game I enjoy and maybe fixing the parts of the game I have been ignoring since I started playing.

Thats the danger of using the word 'we' a lot...ye soon find that ye really dont represent everyone, just yerself. None of the gameplay mechanics ye mention hold any interest fer me...not in their present form anyway. So it becomes a very simply outlook...if they fail to fix those mechanics, then I lose nothing but if they do improve on those things, then I may actually gain something. When one is at the point of ignoring those things entirely, ye do have to wonder how it can actually get worse...if one is not invested then it will neither fail or succeed, it will merely change from its current form.

Tell ye the one way in which it could fail utterly would be to do nothing...so perhaps instead of predicting doom and gloom about how it might fail, why not try a more novel approach of just waiting to see what will happen? At this point, yer just guessing because nobody has any real clue how any of this will be implimented ^

I am looking forward exploration and mining most, as it might bring actual sense of achievement for those roles.

Crime and punishment updates and potential smuggling and other crime updates (Not promised, but Sandro seems keen to do them) are very welcome.

Graphics updates for planets? OHHH YEAH. I want ED to be beautiful and want to see it become more beautiful.
