How many times we've heard this since the game released?

Well, it's almost 2018 and the game is doing fine:

This is only from Steam. Which is probably around half of the playerbase, looking at the Steam sales out of the 2.75 million copies sold back in August.

And yes, this thread serves pretty much no purpose. Which is why it fits right in.

Yep. And that is only players playing at any one time. There where around 140000 players in the last 2 weeks on steam alone. That doesn't include non-steam accounts and the ps4 and Xbox. Will the game die? Sure it will like everything dies in time. Just won't anytime soon.

Of late it seems to be more a "The game is dying because it doesn't have as many players as <insert for example call of duty>"

People will say what they say.
As frustrating as it is to hear, since such threads are.....rarely productive.

In my eyes very much alive. you play the game the way you want, it's open with no end or linear path.

I hate games with linear paths forcing you down a route. If you don't collect x then y door will not open. If you get to y to early then you are stuffed.

Elite is great with a great community. Some people not happy because they not spoon fed etc

I love it, and think this year its going to get even better

I can't understand why people are still posting ED obituaries, it's like beating a dead horse that died two years ago.


Well I'm off again to fire up my Conda, still so many things I wanna do.

True story...I dont even know how to use steam, never used it, probably never will use it...it is totally and utterly meaningless to me. Do I need a pc to make it work? Will the steam interfere with the electronics? Will there ever be a time when I should care about something I dont use?

Im on pc and xbone...game seems fine to me...bit slow at the minute but its always slow in between updates so that proves nothing. The higher figures being recorded now...its xmas, holidays and thargoids are new enough to divert lost players back fer a look see...some will stay and others will leave when the holidays are over. That is the way games have been since games were first made...this steam whatever proves nothing...some of us dont even know what it is let alone use it and somehow still play the game...inconvenient I know but there it is ^

They are really cagey about it, understandable given all the DOOM !. The only time they ever gave a glimpse into the real numbers was when the said PVP'ers are a vocal minority, and they wanted to encourage more players into open. Beyond that it's anybody's guess.

If you'd install Steam for anything, I think it would be for the Steam Sales. Lots of good offers all year round.

Well, if they would show us the numbers (which I have no doubt are good), all the doom-sayers could be silenced with facts. I for myself don't care for these threads, but If a new player is thinking about this game, and goes to the forums and it has 3 of those "The game is dead" threads on the first page - well, that's not really good advertisement for the game, is it? And I for one part want to have as much new players as possible in the game.

I bring up Steam charts every time a "Elite is dead" thread appears. It doesn't seem to work. People don't want to hear facts that are in conflict with their preconceptions and perception of reality...

I only ever play a total of 2 or 3 games in a year, every year...sometimes I only play one game all year so really when ye deal in such small numbers, steam becomes a bit irrelevant yes? Ive simply never felt the need to have such a thing...Im not even that curious which is why I never made it my business to find out, although I already knew what it is...in theory anyway ^
