Landing pad numbering question

Hi.. is there a logic to the numbering of the landing pads?

One problem I've had is I get a pad number and it sometimes takes me ages to find it.

Sometimes the hardest pads to find are the ones right by the station entry slot.

If I could guesstimate where the pad would be in the station from the number, that would speed things up.

Else, I'm spinning near the slot blocking people or loitering over some other pad and stuff.

After you've gone through the docking slot, the compass will show you which way to turn for your allocated docking pad. Also, you should make a habit of clearing the area immediately inside the docking slot after passing through, whether you know where your pad is or not! There might be someone (like me) screaming in behind you at full speed who is expecting you to keep moving. :)

I've been wondering this. There must be some reason or pattern for the way docking pads are numbered, but I can't fathom it out.

It does make it more difficult than it needs to be to find your pad - which is not good in a busy station.

I believe even that the authorities of the space station will not accept the latecomers

I think the pad numbering was done by a monkey who threw the pad number cards on the station plan and people just went with it.

Also having large docks right under the lip of the slot is plain stupid.

Large docks should be at the back and small ones at the front. 4 rings numbered clockwise. 10's at the front and 40's at the back. 4 (large) to 10 (small) in a ring. Lined clockwise around the inside face with 1 at the 12 o clock position relative to the slot (green side left - it's an English game, and therefore universe, so drive on the left).

Problem solved. At least you know roughly where to aim before you get into the slot.

There is logic, they go from entrance to the other end 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16,... So 1, 5, 9, 13,.. are at the entrance

Leaving the PAD, retracting landing gear... landing gear retracted commander... thrusting slowly ahead to the letter box entrance/exit.... aligning... all clear..... now nearly into, and what the hell's coming out of nowhere?! YOU!

To be honest, now I'm driving a Lakon Type 6 I do slow down a bit when I get to the slot (because if I do screw up my approach the deceleration on the Type 6 makes it difficult to stop before I hit something). But I do feel that I'm betraying my principles when I do...:p

I only worked that out this Beta release after boosting through the letterbox, frantically looking for the allocated pad, then hitting the spike at the end of the station!

After I had stopped spinning I made a concerted effort to work it out so just sat there until I did!

It would be even better if the Compass pointed right at your pad the moment you got clearance, rather then when you pass through the letterbox...
