Mobius Mode

A lot of people wouldn't understand what Mobius is, so it would be easier to just have Open PVE at the menu.

Easy to do turn just off player collisions and apply the healing beam effect to all player to player weapon impacts, including splash damage. No real effort required by the dev's.

Maximum group size is 20,000 members, you would need to join "Mobius 2", or is there now a Mobius 3? I've lost count.

IKR. Lost track myself, but mobius keeps getting larger all the time with the new groups.
I guess soon all will be mobius lol.
OT: Maybe just an Open PvE mode option at the main menu would be better. It's more clear and we would use it!

Mobius are currently in the process of setting up several new groups, as a member of the original Mobius i was messaged to say that I should join Mobius Euraisa as the old groups will be eventually shut down , apparently there are new groups for other contenental land groups.

I think I was told the membership number block has been lifted or raised for the new groups.

My guess is the old groups are blocked from new members to facilitate that transition as a new player I know was only able to join the new group from their website.

The size of the Mobius group clearly shows there's a demand for Open PvE mode; a significant number of players want it. FDev should take heed and give it to the players instead of stubbornly insisting that Open is for everyone. The only differences between a main menu Open PvE option and Mobius is that Mobius isn't advertised in game, it's more tedious to use and it has arbitrary limitations (like the 20,000 player limit).

Sure, FDev might be able to adjust C&P and other mechanics to get people to migrate from Mobius back to Open, but at this point it's unlikely.

Here's an idea. Considering its size and continued growth across platforms and time zones, what if Elite: Dangerous just had a link on the launcher saying:

Looking for PvE? Check out Mobius Mode

Go fish!:O[where is it]

good idea, back in 2015 when I first joined, spent most of my time in solo after been victim to griefers as a new player, although I am not a fighter, I do like taunting griefers (monty python style) in open now in my super fast ships :D esp Cmdr (can't name him), the self appointed guardian of HIP 17125 A 3 A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8yjNbcKkNY

Is this the bi monthly, lets plug/bash the mobius PG thread.

I found it via a quick search and on one of my first vists to this forum some time ago. No need for a link its easy to find, might be a bit harder to get in now due to the size of its player base.

No. One other very key difference is that Mobius is moderated as to what counts as PvE and what counts as PvP by a real person.

That's hugely important because the line between PvP and PvE in Elite Dangerous is not at all clear-cut, and indeed the same physical actions can be PvE or PvP depending on context.

For an example, if I fly up to a random miner in an Anaconda and launch a swarm of collector limpets to steal their fragments, that's PvP. If I do the exact same keypresses to someone I've agreed out-of-game to help refine their ore faster to help them get started on their mining career, that's cooperative PvE. The game can't tell the difference.

A more likely and trickier example: try to find a set of collision rules that doesn't
- allow players to be rammed to death by other players
- allow players to be blocked inside a station by other players
- allow players to trick the station into firing on another player
In Mobius it's easy - the rule is "no exploiting the collision rules to harm other players" ... but you can't tell a computer to enforce that as it's way too imprecise.

Frontier should absolutely:
- increase the maximum PG size
- make the PG management interface easy to use with 1000+ player groups
- make the PG management interface delegatable so that it's not all on a single group owner's head
- allow PGs to be advertisable and searchable in-game
- allow a single account to manage multiple PGs
- allow PGs to be named something other than "account owner's name"
- probably way more stuff I haven't thought of but which they could ask big PG owners for ideas on
Trying to design an PvE computer-enforced ruleset would be a complete waste of time that would just have certain people finding more creative ways to PvP and give Frontier an endless series of bug reports, support calls, and forum threads to deal with or ignore.
