Anthem

I mean, if it's anything like in the gameplay trailer, i know what i'm playing when it will be out.
They claim it is..

That's a very nice looking planet/open world. I won't be bothered too much of microtransactions if it's "Warframe" style.

You do know EA is behind it, right?

That being said maybe the Battlefront backlash was big enough for them to not try anything like that again, but I wouldn't count on it. Its EA after all.

Yes, I know that. And it doesn't really make me optimistic with the general tirple-A mtx offensives this year. And with Wilson and Jorgensen tooting the "games as a service" trumpet I have no doubt that Anthem will include mtx. The question is just how intrusive and predatory will they be.

Up to "compromising gameplay"?

Only "just cosmetics"?

We'll have to wait some more, but I bet the knifes are already sharpened.

This game is just their answer to the Destiny franchise. It's also being made by their A team so it's likely it'll be quite polished and professional, it'll also probably play things very safe and not expand any ideas too much. If the likes of Destiny, The Division at al are your sort of games then you should be ok with this. I'm not expecting much here for the casual or single player gamer to be honest.

It's also highly likely that development on this is what made Andromeda the lacklustre title it was.

I never found Destiny a bit appealing but then again I never got fascination with Halo franchise neither. I guess it is just not for me.

It is done by their A team, but as far as I know that project is troubled. Along with MT fiasco for Battleground II there's most likely ongoing debate how they gonna finance that cost of development.

Visually it looks stunning but gameplay registers blank. Generic sci-fi, nothing stands out really, feels like I have seen this before.

Agreed.

Destiny, Division - the big pubs all saw what GTA online reaps in cash and they all want in on der dollars. Too bad you have to nail it somehow to make it work and it's not that easy.

It certainty pretty, but I smell microtransactions by the bucket.

Incidentally, does anyone else find scripted gameplay narration incredibly annoying?

Feels like it has an "Avatar" vibe.

Speaking of which, they plan a new Avatar game, but Ubisoft is sadly the publisher iirc.

This looks reminiscent of Firefall, a flawed and badly managed project that never lived up to its promises yet was still a lot of fun for a time.

But it's EA so it can go whistle.

EA making Bioware do a Destiny ripoff while destroying all the little RPG pedigree they had left. NEXT!

Oh, I've got a better one.
EA making greates storytellers of the past do soulless ripoff of a ripoff of Borderlands.

And considering this will be probably more or less directly competing with BL3, I know where my loyalty lies. :)
Will still try it, though.

Meh - saw this when it first dropped - it's just a Destiny clone.

Also it's EA, so they're not getting my money, and the "lets join a few friends while they read off a script" stuff is cringy as hell.

Looks like EA are trying to inject Tribes into Avatar.

In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, Starsiege Tribes was an FPS from 1999 and ranks up there as one of my all-time favourite online team games.
I'm mainly talking about the jetpacks and how the vertical space is as important as the floor space.
