Finally got my wife into this game, she has a few observations about it

Yeah mine was the same, she has always been more into FPS or RPG's such as Destiny, Halo, Elder Scrolls, The Division and Mass Effect, she has never played even a flight simulator so its all very new to her. She is getting there though and enjoying it so far.

Fair comments across the board, honestly. It's feedback that's been received and forwarded before so hopefully the upcoming changes lead toward more of what people are looking for. I won't promise that it'll resolve every gripe or meet *all* expectations of the game, but I'm confident that the focused feedback sessions with Sandro (more will come!) will get us closer to giving all of us what we'd like to see. :)

Ere, no they said that there are more people working on ED then ever before (info from the expo). So where did you get this information from.

And don't make stuff up yourself.

from a comment from a developer at that same expo, reported here on the forum. you know ... who knows? but being a developer myself i'll always trust more a developer between lines than any announcement from community managers, copywriters, hosts, ceos and the like. make of it what you want.

don't lie to her. frontier's hype machine and bull generator are bad enough, but even they have acknowledged that the team is currently at minimal levels

https://www.redbull.com/int-en/elite-dangerous-ps4-interview

Excerpt:
"“The Elite Dangerous team is over a hundred people strong, and while we have a dedicated PS4 team to handle things like PSN infrastructure, everyone is working on content which will appear simultaneously on all platforms."

Really don't get where this "minimal levels" stuff keeps coming from. Not even remotely true.

Thanks for the reply, very informative. Some interesting stuff coming by the looks of it, I think I got her into this at the right time. As a person that does enjoy the grind and rewards of games, I think she is going to really love this stuff.

ooookay, okay. not gonna argue with that. shoot me! :D

I think shooting might be a touch of overkill. :p But I think it'd be only fair to give FDev the 2.5 months that's left of Q1 to show us what's coming in this first big update of Beyond. It's not a small update at all, and they did also mention that not everything in the actual list of updates was mentioned at the Expo, simply due to lack of time.

indeed! i just try to keep expectations low. it's healthy, and i though it could also be beneficial for op's marriage!

Would this be the personal narative stuff that is coming? Will there be a focused feedback on this too?

I agree with this though. Never keep your expectations too high otherwise you will likely be disapointed.

My only expectations are that they'll deliver features and content that fits the roadmap detailed on the reddit link posted earlier. I'm going to hold no pre-imagined ideas of how they'll do it, and just let them surprise me.

The strategy has worked pretty well for me so far. [big grin]

I binge-watched the first three series over the last couple of weeks. And I think it's broken my head.

Be warned: some of them are very bleak.

Black mirror is fantastic. A real warning, in many ways, actually, especially the FB/Instagram style rating episode.

As for your partner, OP, perhaps it’s time she joined up with a group working the BGS? Or... Fuel rats? Basically, something where she interacts with and works together with others. Does she play Open/PG/Solo (no judging)?

Z...

That was one of the most thought-provoking episodes, I thought. I could all-too-easily see something like that happening, if it hasn't already started.

Looking forward to more meat on the bone, as it were, of course. Just hope it all fits the game as a whole and makes sense within the context of the game universe.

I've suspected and heard mentioned elsewhere that it might be possible to incorporate somewhat of a more personal narrative with the Engineers, and some missions and local factions have some potential too.

For the most part, I make my own story in the game, playing as a survivalist, adventurer, and explorer, and don't want the rest of the game getting in the way of that.

The Engineers and what they've done to the PVP meta was a stretch for me and something I'm not really interested in spending my time doing, so I haven't. I might revisit it more after the changes to the Engineers, but I'm not holding my breath. I'd generally rather be out in the black and having a good time playing the game my way.

Space legs would be nice, and I do hope to see them implemented to some degree sooner or later for things such as real multicrew, exploring and interacting with the insides of ships and stations, and maybe world surfaces.

Primarily though, I do think this is a sci-fi spaceship pilot video game, and that's of course one of the main appeals of it for me. Exploring the Milky Way galaxy on a one to one scale is certainly a draw for me as well.

2 cents worth.

Cheers, guys.

have you tried Mobius pve and joined a faction, that way you can influence what happens in 'their' systems i.e. oreder of Mobius just one of hundreds, search inara.

Just to repeat an observation that I heard elsewhere - Elite is not a game, it's a toy.

Not a pejorative statement, and not my words - but do I think they accurately suggest how best to think about ED, and how best to approach and enjoy it.

OP, here's the advice I'd give your charming lady...

"Remember who we are in this game. Our job isn't to change the universe or save it, it's to survive it and live in it. When something kicks off, if enough of us get involved we can direct how it comes out but mostly we can't make it kick off, at least, not alone. This is the biggest problem most gamers have with Elite. No matter how lowly your supposed 'origins' in most games, there's this path you can follow to end up as the dragonborn warrior, the crime boss of vice city, the high admiral of star fleet or the jedi master. Elite doesn't have that. You start as a regular schmuck and you will always be a regular schmuck. We've already got the biggest leg up we're going to get by being members of the pilot's federation. Set your game goals accordingly and you'll find much more to do and much more to enjoy in Elite than you'd think. Try to find that 'progression to endgame' and it will be an exercise in frustration."
