When will it become a game? Will it become a game?

When you say 'proper' game mechanics, you mean being told where to go and what to do as opposed to using your own imagination and creativity?

Instead of painting by numbers, in Elite, FD have given us a blank sheet of paper and a box of crayons to create our own masterpiece.

I did not receive crayons,
i cannot paint me into a wing with those NPCs
i imagined to be creating aid-convoys for the pleiades.
I cannot even find those aid convoys in the pleiades,
they just jump around nonsensical.

Sadly, some people lack the elementary reasoning power to figure out that just because they don't enjoy something, it doesn't mean that nobody else does.

/thread

They would rather stick around, get on a soap box and demand the game be changed to the way they think it should be.

[/h][FONT=&quot]I would say ED falls into 1a and 3a pretty easily, but that is based on Merriam-Webster's definition and not yours I suppose...

By usual suspects do you mean those that hold a negative view of ED?

Well I would hope they would, along with those of a more positive outlook that can persuade me that there is indeed a game here.

I am referring to some forum regulars who tend to trumpet the same thing in just about every thread, usually very negative, looking for an audience.

Before "you" can answer your own question, you need to have a clear understanding of what a "game" is, and for us to be able to attempt to try and help you determine that, we need to know "your" understanding of what a "game" is. Unfortunately people seem to make their own definitions to common terms like "game", so for those of us interested in actual discussion, we need to know your definition.

No, not at all. I like games that are challenging and make one think.

But, there is only so much 'imagination' that I am encouraged to use before I think, hang on, where's the game?

A blank sheet and no pencils it seems to me at the moment.

Certainly are pencils and crayons and so on..Just not many of them. I do find it odd that you can't see them though.

It's not that bad.

I would have called it worse, but I would get a ban if I did.

Game mechanics: BGS, pick a system and flip control from one faction to another.
PP, Pick a faction and expand their influence.
Bounty hunting find Pirates, kill them.
Mining. Well, mine.
Explore. Well, explore.

And I haven't even touched on the direct PvP possibilities yet.

Seems like a game to me...

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
That's pretty subjective I would say. And really - does it matter what you call it? The question is: is it something you enjoy spending time with?

The forum is here for everyone to offer constructive feedback to make the (whatever you wanna call it) better, though.

ED, while isn't exactly "challenging" in my opinion, certainly makes you think. Imagination is a thought process, and you state you are only willing to "think" so much before you put that burden back on the title. To me, that sounds like a "you problem".

Now, if it doesn't tickle your fancy, good for you. I don't play "Barbie Pony Princess Adventures", but you might. You may enjoy titles that railroad you from one area to another, I don't. That doesn't mean that the game, or any game, is not a game by definition.

Simple enough, if you don't like it, move on to something you do like. Maybe the development will turn this game into the game you are dreaming of, or it won't. If it doesn't, everyone is free to create their own products to their own specifications. Do you, don't worry about everyone else.

I want to spend time on it! The graphics and planes are truly excellent And the galaxy, though mostly eye candy, I find amazing.

It's been around for a while now (long enough I would say) do you think we will ever see the addition of properly developed, fun and engaging, gameplay mechanisms?

Look enderby, we're something like 4 years through the life of this game, we're too far gone to have any new revolutionary gameplay addition at this point. The game people play today is final, it may have some new buggy modules or some cool new recycled assets in the future, but this is it.

Keep hanging around the forums hoping for something to get better, especially this far into the development, won't give you any satisfaction and never will.
