The epic fail of Beyond

So who's excited for Beyond Chapter 1 coming out at the end of the month? (I am.)

Looking forward to planetary surface... I don't think there's much else in there I am interested in...

It'll be Q4 make or break for me - The game just needs some long overdue solid new deeper gameplay mechanics. And I'm hoping the DLC will be something solid, like atmospheric landings.

I'm curious about the new engineering. And the new ships.

What was the phrase, premium content or something? Looking forward to that as well. And the changes to mining and trading too.

Except that's not how you work out a player base. When they say 95% of the player base was lost in 6 months, they're talking about people that bought the game to play out. Maybe some of them just buy games to NOT play but who knows!

Why would we NOT be talking about the people that bought it and how on earth do you work it out as time gos on? So when you have 22 people left and they stop playing and you say ahh we lost 100% of the player base? You lost 100 people? No, 22...but 100 bought the game.

Yeah this is advanced business statistics because first we lost 78% of the player base and then we lost %100 of the player base.

You lost 178% of the player base?

Absolutely ridiculous.

I concur. Your arguments are absolutely ridiculous. You are trying to rewrite grammar and maths for your own purposes, and failing abysmally.

Someone doesn't get the game they want.

Realises they aren't a unique and beautiful snowflake that has all of FD"s care, love and attention.

Another pathetic whinge thread.

If there's 1,277,000 ish owners of ED on Steam and steam says there's around 8k players on average playing at the moment, that's only like 7% of owners playing at any one time.

So that would say 93% of Steam ED owners don't play ED that often or at all anymore.

Doesn't mean 93% of the player base is permanently lost, just means that only 7% still like it enough to play regularly

No, it doesn't mean that at all. Even a basic understanding of gameplay statistics should cover that.

EDIT: hell, even an understanding of timezones should cover that in part.... unless you are a flat earther.

Agreed!

And how are my ED playing activities accounted for in these numbers?

I bought the game on Steam, yet I launch the game outside of Steam using the ED launcher desktop shortcut I created myself. As a result, the "Hours Played" number shown on my ED Steam page within the Steam application is off by hundreds of hours.

I've been playing the game at minimum 3 times per week for going on 3 years despite my Steam stat for ED documenting less than one third of that play time.

It's the trade overhaul I want. At the moment we have either no information and the only option is to brute force a search of trade routes or we have god-like omnipotence via 3rd party apps. For a game that's supposed to have a backbone of space trading it is woefully inadequate. Also holding up some hope for some proper smuggling mechanics.

and why to run the game through steam? u can put that ppl too on this?

I'm curious about the new engineering.
New engineering appears to just be the same old engineers that IMHO has severly damaged the game, just with the rough edges filed off to annoy people slightly less in using them.

...And the changes to mining and trading too.[./quote]As well as improve mining gameplay, I dearly hope mining finally sees some stateful mechanics so it truly gets interesting. eg: A gold rush to mine out stateful pockets of reserves in a couple of rings. Or to go out and find these ultra rare valuable reserves before others do.

We need stateful pockets of valuable reserves to explore and find, and then mine. And once, mined they're gone forever!

i love ppl in denial. this thread got 35 pages in 12 days, but some fanboys still think the game is fine as it is.

before beyond announcement: the game is fine as it is, if you dont like it to bad, maybe the game isnt for you.

after beyond announcement: the game is not fine but it will be after beyond, if you dont like beyond to bad, maybe the game isnt for you.

ill keep eating my popcorn and see how it playes out, new CONTENT was promised on the beyond announcement, and no, i dont consider new mining limpets or a new laser colour new content.

You use the word "we" a lot....

Agreed.There is no "we.

Don't include Elite gamers in whining click bait threads. You don't speak for me.

And to all the infants whining because all of Beyond hasn't been delivered to their door immediately so mummy can handhold them through their next batch of trolling.......... that's it; whining infants.

You left 3 messages in this thread. All 3 were direct insults.

If you have something to say about the topic say it, if not just frack off and share your immensely constructive criticism somewhere else ;)

Some people really get irked, don't they? I can't understand it myself.

While I agree with this, the amount of reserves in just the Sol asteroid belt today could collapse the markets for those materials. Yes, once mined, gone forever, but then onto the next rock or system. But it should mean that you can't just find a nice asteroid and wait for it to respawn.

While I'm usually pretty critical, I must confess I'm quite excited about "Beyond".

Back to basics ? Really ? Take my money !!!! :)

I'm even willing to accept that FD cannot possibly make it right immediately : if the new karma rules do not work at first, I'm willing to wait for patches :D

Don't get cocky though FD ... I'll be whining / spamming / complaining loudly all day long if you return to your old useless stupid habits i.e. designing useless features NOBODY asked for like PP, CQC or MC ...

Focusing on CORE gameplay is the way to go though, wise choice here !

IMHO obviously.

Well, to be fair, the math does say that at any given time on average only 7% of the owners are playing. That's all it says. Now, is it the same 7% or an ever changing 7% rotating through? We don't know. BUT given the niche-y-ness of this game I'd bet the 7% is likely made up of at least 60-70% of the same players if not more.

So perhaps it's simply better to say that it doesn't appear to be a good number of owners play Elite when one looks at other titles when looking at the ratios on SteamSpy: http://steamspy.com/

Note a title like "They Are Billions" where about 400k own the game and 300k play the game. Impressive. And Elite certainly isn't anywhere near the top of any of the most played, most popular charts because it really isn't that popular. It's nichey, very nichey.

If the goal of Beyond is to improve this then they have a high bar to jump over.

Doesn't help when even the people that want to play don't because of all the problems. If they got rid of a majority of the bugs and engaged the player a little more this would be my ideal game. I WANT to play this game more than any other in my library, but I just can't bring myself to load it up with the way things currently are. I need something in the game to care about. It doesn't have to be my own station or outpost I can build up. I just need to feel like I'm contributing to something meaningful and that I can see notable indications that I personally am making a difference. And no, before anyone starts, I DO NOT need to be the hero that saves the galaxy. That's not what I mean, so please don't even go there. Right now it just feels like they are giving us the ILLUSION of making a difference, but you don't have to look very hard to see behind the curtain.

Anyways, I think there are alot of people that WANT to be playing this game, but just can't feel engaged with it in it's current state.

Oh wait, you want instant gratification! Or, you are not using your imagination! Or, you are simply too entitled (is that possible?). Or, you want someone to hold your hand. Errr... Sorry, had to beat the other standard excuses when some dares to express negative thoughts.

Yeah, I too want to continue to enjoy the game. But it's tough. And the devs need to hear honest feedback and not just the butt kissing part.
