PvP Obsidian Orbital PVP Attack / Advice

Got my gank today in Maia returning from Obsidian to the rescue ship as just in this moment my soon-to-be ganker came out of the pad next to the pad I tried to dock (with an FDL I think?).
Also he had a wingmate.
I was maybe 500m away from the pad and the CMDR with a certain high-alert status name fired on me asap. My FDS had a HRP and a MRP changed for economy cabins,
and was missing two weapon modules. I was masslocked by the station. I tried to run but the FDS goes only 387 tops and he of course targeted my FSD and then took me out.

No salt, no tears, accepted the rebuy. Maia is anarchy and I was in a FDS with pirate paintjob and pirate ID *lol* so I kinda invited it.

But which advice can you give me in this situation? Honestly, I of course fumbled several things cause I got caught pants down, but alas I have no idea
how to escape this situation? Is it even escapable?

As vindelanos pointed out it would be propably more helpful to ask for advice here than in the "modes of elite" thread graveyard :D

So stay near the rescue ship, like right on top of it, and face him. He won't risk hitting the ship. You win.

Edit: I'm not 100% sure if the rescue ships will also fire on attackers, but if they're made like stations they should.

Problem with that: he came from the ship, just undocked, he was between me and the ship. But thinking about it, I could have propably simply docked. That works under fire, doesn't it? He could then only have tried to ram me away.

Another problem, he had two rails, I think he could've taken me apart with those if I only stayed passive at the rescue ship hull.

You can dock under fire; nerve-racking but doable, but they also have to be very careful about hitting the ship/station, so keep bobbing around. And they could try to ram you, absolutely, but you could try weaving and skittering off to one side or another as he's about to hit you.

I'd try boosting back toward him then duck and weave as best you can around the rescue ship. If your shields went down add silent running too. Not easy whatever you do if your build isn't made to take the punishment.

I would have landed. At 500m and all ready to go, it has to be worth the risk.

I say; I would have landed. I would have tried, as it is the only really viable option.

You state that the top speed is 370ms, that is under 2 seconds to the pad. Then your dead of course; but if you can hit the pad at under 40ms, that's just shield damage. I would aim for the spot and try to sort it, when I got there.

It's a tough one, OP - As I said previously, I haven't been to the Maia rescue and don't know all of the ins and outs, but the way the current ruleset works, it sounds like you were left with few options.

Remember, he's in a gunship, not a vulture. That ship doesn't do anything quickly.

The D.C. will quit on you if you come under fire while it is docking you, but you can take over, of course.

I had no docking computer but a FSD interdictor as a respectable pirate, sir :D

The longer I think about it the more I think i chickened out and messed up badly.
If I remember correct, I lasted at least 20 seconds under fire (2500 hull with G5 engineered reactive armor and G4/5 HRPs) plus 200 MJ of G5 thermal resistant bi-weaves.

If I had stayed calm and focused, that would propably have been enough to dock.

Well, lesson learned.

500m? Go around him, make him turn, FA off, flip, boost, select another system, high wake.

If he can kill you in that time and/or destroy your FSD, you're flying too weak for open and need to beef up.

Or just boost down to the pad and slam the ship down hard. If your shields and hull can't handle that, then again, you're flying too soft for open.

In order to survive these situations you need big shields and fair bit of speed is helpful.

Then you can just boost away and then wake out.

To avoid the targetting of your FSD you can boost, FA-off, flip around and full reverse until you are out of mass lock. The way the flight mechanics currently work it is almost impossible to get and stay behind a player who is flying FA-off backwards.

Super pen doesn't care which way you're facing. It traces a line through the ship and damages every module along the path from front to back.

Something I would have done is find the nearest antenna array or small protrusion on the rescue ship and keep it between you and your attacker, it counts as part of the rescue ship and is not exactly conspicuous (generally a black antenna on a black background is hard to see if you're focusing on something else nearby), so your attacker may hit it accidentally while thinking he has a clear shot if you are unable to escape. Failing that, fire back and go down swinging feebly 'cause you've got no chance anyways. I'm actually gearing up to head down to the plieades myself to get some modular terminals and expect to have to exercise the latter option frequently.
