Elite + VR + Oculus 2.0 for the win

I just figured out how to display a browser windows in VR (Requires Oculus home 2.0). With this new found toy I am able to mine and watch shows at the same time. I basically have a TV inside my Cutter. I love Elite in VR and not being able to view other windows was the only draw back. For anyone that was avoiding VR because of this issue may want to give it another look.

Are you talking about dash? The new update is very slick, I tend to use it for inara, Coriolis or general web browsing, nice to have a 47 inch TV onboard the ship :)

agreed, although is it just me or do you need to set it up each time you start elite up again? After all the tweaking to get it just right it'd be nice if it persisted through play sessions. Is that possible?

Oooooh.

That is something I want to do. Can you position the screen anywhere in 3D space and have it stay there, or does it always stay in fixed position relative to the headset?

Does it REQUIRE Touch or can you still navigate with wand or joypad?

Dash/Core 2.0 is in beta, so it's unfinished & buggy. They're releasing new features every so often, in fact you can vote on new features you want to see, check out the pinned post at the top of the Oculus reddit.

You can grab any window and pull it into the virtual world, very surreal. You can then place the window anywhere inside the ship. Touch is required to grab, you can use the wand to bring up the virtual desktop, it will just be your computers desktop floating in front of you, use the pointer like a mouse.

Personally I haven't found it buggy at all, running on a fast rig. I only use it for web browsing inside the ship.

Will try this tomorrow... Was "umming and arring" for ages. Cheers!
Now I'm convinced I should install it!

repped.

When it works (which is most of the time), it works 100%, lol. It is in beta, so be prepared for weird behavior.

One cool feature is that if you place the window in the right place on your ship, the window becomes curved. You get a nice theater like view.

The only time I run into issues is when I take the headset off and put it on again, the window disappears and I can never get it back. A restart of everything (elite + oculus home) seems to fix it. You can also put something on the head sensor so that it doesn't turn off when you take the headset off.

To get the window in your ship, you have to grab (using touch) the window from your desktop and place it where you like. You can then pin it and close the desktop.

Wait, there are CMDRs on this forum that don't join us in the Virtual Reality sub-forum?

Come...join us.

Actually, the VR sub-forum should get some credit here. I may have gotten the info from there. I posted it here for those that don't know about the VR sub-forum. I didn't, until recently.
