Okay smarty pants - Riddle me this!

For 25 points and your pick of the board:

What does FGK stand for?

A little context here:
A while back the Spinward Marches Alliance Concern hosted a Community Goal in support of developing the Alliance project out in the California Nebula.
The CG hoped to create a supply point halfway out to the California Nebula. It was relatively succsesful and a number of assets have been created out in
Synuefai LX-R d5-28
These include an ocellius starport, a medium surface port, a cool orbital agri-lab structure and (here's the kicker):
a Dionysus Class Agricultural Vessel: FGK-342

I've got business out in the California Nebula this week, but I thought I would take in a few sights on the way.

Okay cool - it looks like that ship from Silent Running. But most of the Bio-Domes are wrecked. Open to vacuum and so on.
There are local system ships buzzing around - Spinward Marches Hydroponics is the new faction and there's a mining concern and some crooks.
There's cannisters spilled everywhere, including Occupied Escape Pods and so on. The blunt end of the ship is still burning.- I'm thinking: this is uh, "fresh". It's not like those generation ships with moving audio logs and an ancient story - this is related to the "current situation".

You're with me, right? - Thargoids.

So I did a lap of the ship and picked up an escape pod for a laugh. Now I had only just seen my first station thta has been attacked by Thargoids - Obsidian Orbital in Maia. Well, GalNet had news and it was on the way. Man that's a ghoulish place to visit. It's like at home, after major bushfires, we get city folk taking a drive through the devastation rubbernecking and geting in the way. I'm not immune to the attraction.

Anyway - point is that the attack on the Alliance Dionysus Class Agri-ship has NO green-corrosive-goo damage.
Scorch marks and wrecked, yes. But only lazer fire and projectile damage.
Not Thargoids.

So who did this?

I blame the Feds - because I always blame the Feds.
But to be fair there is a bit of Alliance funny business going on out there, and it occurs to me that the "F" in "FGK-342" could be "Federation".
Now, to go any further invites a whirlwind of tin-foil-hattery; and uh yeah-nah let's not. But my question remains:

What does "FGK" mean in this context?
Any lore masters or Canonn folks, wiki editors, @OliviaVespera, Michael Brookes or the new community guy?

random reg number

Yeah - sure BUT
there are plenty of whipwrecks and damaged structures around the game - surely someone is noting these things. Are they all labeled randomly and this is just coincidence?
OR was this a Federation ship?
So for example - what designations do the Fed capital ships use?
Are there comparable Fed Agri ships? What are their designations?

Fed capital ships use F.N.S. (Federal Naval Ship.)

Though in this case "F" could mean "farming?" Dunno...

Hah! That's great. And the CWA (Country Women's Association) have a tea room in one of the bio-domes and you can get lovely pumpkin scones. Derrick stands in the top paddock looking at his prize Angus bull (Blue Ribbon at the Tarnagulla Easter Show).

Yeah- nah I don't reckon it's "F for Farming"

"Verbandsgruppe Kolonie" it doesn't quite work in German.

Not sure about the registration, as others have mentioned it is probably just standard naming like the FNS for federal capital class ships. The damage to the ship was due to pirate attacks, there was a whole CG about the attacks out near California.

Seems an odd choice though:

Federal Agricultural Vessel (FAV)

Deep Space Farming Vessel (DSFV)

Sort of stuff sounds better, FGK

Federal Garden / Gank / Grind / Group / Kitchen / Kennel ? Not much really fits and makes sense.

You might be right about the pirates.
Except that the S&R operation and bounty hunting was much further out, actually IN the California Nebula.

There's some posts in that thread that point to systems in the Cal' Neb' with damaged ships in them.

Okay - so I'll buy your theory.
It's an Alliance ship attacked by "pirates".

Still don't know what to make of "pirates" though. It's not like we expect Archon Delaine and the Kumo crew to have a sufficiently bitter opposition to the Alliance that they'd chase us out to California. You'd think that would be more likely to be INRA or AEGIS.

Mind you, I do know of ONE beautiful lady pirate who is squatting in an Alliance PMF system. But stretching that connection to "Pirates vs the Alliance" won't really work.

The ship you are talking about was part of the CG. Below are all ships that needed help salvaging rescue pods. The Dionysis is the only ship outside of the nebula, as you mention, that region is a pit stop/refuelling area for miners and truckers into the Nebula.

Gordon Class Bulk Cargo Ship FPR-42 in HIP 18077
Thomas Class Bulk Cargo Ship KS-92 in California Sector JH-V C2-12
Samson Class Bulk Cargo Ship AK-302 in California Sector BV-Y C7
Demeter Class (or Dionysis) vessel in Synuefai LX-R D5-28
Aquarius class tanker WKS 559 at California Sector BA-A E6 4

If you look at the text of that CG, it says that "ships travelling to and from its California Nebula outposts are coming under attack from pirates" - this system is between the bubble and the California Nebula so covered by this. The fact most people chose to bounty hunt out in the nebula systems doesn't mean those were the only ones affected by the pirate activity that the CG was helping to diminish.

Classical references (Demeter, Aquarius) and Thomas the Tank engine references (Gordon,Thomas and Samson)!

But no idea what FGK stands for.
