Before and after shots for new planetary tech.

Just a quick suggestion to all explorers out there regarding the upcoming content and planetary changes. We all know when the update is due, and the best way to get comparison shots is to do them from exactly the same spot, preferably at the same time of day but that's not always possible, so I suggest the last thing we all do before the update comes out is take a few screenshots of our current surrounding and as soon as we log in after update we do the same and post them here for the best before and after comparison.

That way we will get a good spread of before and after shots in various regions of the galaxy. I intend to be somewhere out near BP when the update drops so will get some there.

Fly safe all.

IIRC, last beta I had been reset back to the bubble without any choice even though I had been out of it for several weeks.

Bear in mind that the Beta uses a galaxy state that will be a couple of weeks behind.
You will not be in the same place.

The beta yes that's true I was forgetting that, however a lot of people won't play the beta so they can do it when the live drops, and if you stay in the beta the whole time your ship won't move in the live server so you can still do it after the live release drops. The main aim is to get screenshots from the exact same location. :D

I've done it the last time, and will do now as well. I might try to find the same spot with the same ship, but that means a costly transfer of my exploraFDL to Colonia. :)

what's also of interest to me is how the sky and nebulae textures and renderings change. I guess i'll park my shippy somewhere in normal space far from any lightsource and within viewing distance of a (planetary) nebula or something like that. Wouldn't it be cool if those woulde get even more awesome as well and not just planets?

Great idea anyways :)

You could recreate the same shot even with the time difference between the beta and live Commanders by parking your ship at a tourist beacon, in roughly the same position.

As for nebula models... I believe FD have said a while ago that they are unlikely to change. Then again, they did significantly improve the Pleiades later... still, unless they explicitly say that the next update (maybe 3.1?) is going to have them changed, I don't think you should expect anything on that front.

I just want them to surprise me and say there are some updates to surface vulcanism, I want to park right next to some fumaroles and geysers to see how they look. However, my one fear is that with this new planetary tech upgrade, and subsequent surface feature upgrade, will our previous found volcanism, organics being moved, erased or what....perhaps I'll have to ask that today during the stream.

OR ... you park your ride next to some fumaroles and the next time you log in, your ship ist burning up in a lake of lava :)

I'm already planning on doing this. I have pics of a few worlds from before 2.2 and after 2.2, and I'm going to take pics of them in 3.0 just to see how things compare.

I'll be spending a lot of time in this beta, lol.

At first glance I'd expect all planets to be re-generated by the new algorithms no matter if they've been visited/explored or not, as preserving the old-style planets besides the new ones seems impractical on several levels. Plus, going by what we saw during the beigification, this sort of changes seems to be retroactive.

Or is it possible that planets generated before 'Beyond' will stay the way they are? Have FD mentioned anything wrt this somewhere?

I'd like to see what Drakes Ridge (DWE WP5) looks and sounds like with the new changes. That place was bloody creepy!

We've had couple of similar basecamps at DECE, with very creepy fog. Those i have to go and see sometime. They are too far now to go and take a look but luckily i have them bookmarked. :)

Nah, just like in 2.2, all RW/HMC/MR worlds will be changed for 3.0 per the new generation algorithms. Even planets in the bubble with bases on them will be improved and look different. The new routines in the Stellar Forge completely replace the current routines.

What we don’t know is if the ice world coloring will be changed at all? They might start to look rather bland compared to the rock worlds after 3.0.
