The mandatory "Buff the Chieftain" / "Nerf the Chieftain" thread

Now that everybody saw it in action, what do you think? IMHO it's nothing to write home about... Don't sell your FAS/FDL/FGS over it.

Good agility, but low class 5 FSD, top boost just under an Asp, around 250 mps speed. Weird hardpoints placement, could be interesting though. Typical combat medium ship with few compartments but 3 military slots.

Honestly, it could have no hard-points and I'd use the Chietain itself as a weapon - it just looks so cool :D

Going to buy two - one for exploration, one for combat.

Make that 380.

It's agility might be it's most outstanding point. It seemed real agile tbh. Need to experiment and field test, min/max optimal mass with DD and all that yadayada before I can answer it for myself.

na

dont like it

wings to short, no mailslot stockings .....

Too few compartments and lowish jump range for a good explorer. I was hoping for a bit more.

I think with the right build skills, you will be able to get this to outperform an Asp X. It already has that ship beat in terms of firepower for use as an all-rounder. Based the max 5A jump range, an overspec 5A G5 upgrade should get you into the high 30s low 40s for range.

As far as an Exploration focused ship... As was already pointed out, this isn't designed for that role. But it looks like it has the Python beat for jump range, which is nothing to sneeze at.

Agreed, that's why I'm quietly hyped about it. It looks like an fas with:

- Better large placement for fixed;
- Instead of 2 med HPs, 1 med and 3 smalls (glorious Hammer time!);
- Needs confirming, but it looks like more military slots than the fas (looking forward to seeing a hull/shield tank Chieftain)

I think an fas will out maneuver this ship, but the Chieftain might have better focus fire and overall survivability, IMO

They said three military slots, which surprised me

20LY jump range on an unengineered FSD aint too shabby, lookin at round-a-bout 30LY on a decent roll. no SLF though, i was hoping for one.

The lack of an SLF is a bummer.

But in terms of the jump range, I think a +53% overspec 5A could get closer to the high 30s. Will have to wait and see when I get my hands on one of these, but I have two over spec 5As in storage at the moment, plus the +56% 5A I have in my Python.

I will know the max range in all of about 2 minutes of buying the ship.

It was almost 20ly on a A/D rated ship without any armour. Best you can hope is 30ly but if you add military and 3 x 4 hull reinforcements I bet you'll get 25ly at most. New engineered FSD will be 50 at max without secondaries.

Integrity was around 560 if I remember well and the shield was max class 5. Let's hope for at least 4 utilities. A similarly equipped Asp has 30ly jump out of the box.
