Yes I'll be able to see it myself but that doesn't mean I'll understand the underlying mechanics to what I see. The juicy stuff that's what I'm interested in. which is why I want another deep dive video on planets. Yes I'll be able to discover things myself but nothing beats they guys creating the things telling me what's going on. But, hey only a week away again if I was interested in the other stuff I would have been amazed because FD doblooonto be putting some good effort into it all

A "deep dive" into the tech was never on the cards for this livestream - you should petition the community team to make that the subject of another livestream in the future if you want the details. Either way, I don't see why that's disappointing - the new surfaces look fantastic from space. Changes to the surface aren't planned until later in the year so I don't think it's fair to criticise based on something they're not releasing until Q4 at least, in the first 3 weeks of January.

Some nice additions for sure this evening. I liked just about everything I saw. Looking forward to roaming around those new planets and moons.

Flimley

Either I got it wrong or you're not totally correct... The textures are changed, not only does this apply from space, it will also affect the visuals on ground. To me this is pretty logical.
The topology is what will change later on this year. Right ?

*round of applause*

It's all terrifically exciting FDev, you've done yourselves proud.

As to surfaces close up are people used to the colours changing when they land or something?!? It'll look way better. Already been able to see the colouration isn't a broad stroke and it'll be quite detailed - I'm very happy - the beige plague has gone out with a bang.

Alright, if you've been watching the last 2 streams about the upcoming Beyond Q1 beta content, you know the devs do deserve some love and respect !
The forum isn't always the most cheerful place but right now it should be.
Q1 chapter one, only the smaller of all the Beyond updates but already so exciting !

Thank you ♥[up]

hopes and dreams and good intentions dont make me happy. Making space travel, in a space game that puts so much effort and emphasis on the 1:1 scale of it's environment, actually part of the game instead of an empty means to an end would make me happy. So i'll be happy when that happens, assuming i haven't jumped ship to a different game.

I've been telling myself not to get hyped for another update again but the things I saw tonight were to much to leave me unhyped.
Chieftain, Planet Textures and those Trading improvements!!!!!!! ugh, love it, those three things make the Q1 update to a great success to me already.

Kudos to the devs and any other employee from FD involved in making ED only better and better!!!

Congrats FDev and much appreciated for all the hard continuous work on ED which really feels like a labor of love for the game and the genre, or there wouldn't be such high fidelity and simulation of the hardcore sci-fi and astronomy aspects otherwise.

(glad the hump of the "game is doomed/migrate to SC/etc" threads are finally behind us in the rearview mirror for this 'cycle')

+1000!

Frontier, keep on doing what you're doing! [heart]

Not sure how long a deep dive into what has been done to update the look of affected planets, could turn out, given I am pretty sure I recall one developer stating that they at the heart of the matter "just" cranked up the contrast on what was already there... :7

(For a somewhat whinge-y observation: Hopefully some future update also gives the radial ejecta blankets a bit of an overhaul, to make them look a little more natural, instead of as if drawn with ruler and area-fill tool... :7)

I love work they have done for this game and passion they have shown every day. I just recognise they are very smart people, some of them are way smarter than I ever be, and they are all working on game in franchise I loved since teen.

I am not surprised by Q1/3.0. It is again very solid work by team who knows very well what they are doing and where they are going. Besides all moaning, grinding, stumping here in virtual world.

Just watched a vid on NMS that came up on my youtube feed.

Reminded me about a few lessons we've learned over the past year or so about expectation management & ambiguous marketing hype.

But this is post release content.
There's a fine line to tread between letting the community know about upcoming things their working on or letting the community get frustrated with lack of update information.

Edit: I must add that this year so far has been lots of information given which is great.
