Save Obsidian Orbital - Humanity UNITE!

Now you're saying "we" instead of "you" at least, but either way, I certainly had nothing to do with that mess. The only "barnacle" I've ever visited in the game was protected by me and others in an armed escort for our expedition and it was left completely unmolested.

"We" as in "Humanity" generally
"you" as in "You who all went there because you thought to gain something out of it"

I will be out there tonight helping the rebuild. I wasn’t fussed about attacking Thargs till they messed wth OO. Right or wrong, they can now bite my fat one.
Build it, and they will come...

they could have also chosen the thargs to invade mankind, but didn't, they by lore wnated mankind to go to the Thargs.
I don't know where you're getting your lore, but the Thargoids structures and probes into the Pleiades were in response to humanity moving there. Not the other way around. The growth rate of these Thargoid barnacle sites is such that they couldn't have been there very long.

Humanity has given the Thargoids hundreds (of not thousands) of permit locked systems for them to live. Completely free from any sort of human interaction.

The Thargoids know enough about human politics to be able to correctly identify stations currently operated by Aegis, which means they currently have had the ability to communicate with humans. The fact that they haven't even bothered to ask humans to leave (or, in fact, to even express to humans what they consider to be their territory) means that they have no interest in the Pleiades except simply as a location convenient to feed upon us.

[I think the reality of the situation is that FDev wanted Thargoid content to be optional. Which means they couldn't and will never invade the bubble. The Pleiades was created as a battlefield specifically for this content. ]

I don't want to appear to be carping on about whether it is worth repairing OO, nor of spoiling OP's thread but:

What was the point of OO? As far as I can see, it only gave players of the base game a toehold in the Pleiades, because Horizons players have Alcazar's Hope which has offered better equipment and facilities from Day 1.

Instead, FD should offer us a CG to not only rebuild OO, but also to build it better ! That ought to encourage a wider participation in its reconstruction. :)

In my opinion, Obsidian Orbital gets an exemption form this mess and is grandfathered in because it was there first and we (or at least many of us) built it for unrelated reasons.

I'm just going to leave it at that.

Cheers. :)

Where is that from? Wasn't it said the old Elite lore (before ED) is not part of ED's Lore?.
Why would thargoids scan us if they know us already?
Why would we have to invent sepcial weapons against them if we met and ave them living space after the old conflict?
Afaik, current ED lore is not linked to many of the old pre ED Lore anymore.

The Club had learned that two distinct "dynasties" of the Thargoids, the Oresrians and Klaxians, had become involved in a civil war. At some point, the Klaxians had gained the upper hand, forcing the Oresrians into a slow, continuous retreat across the galaxy, a retreat which would take them directly through human space. The Oresrians intended to use human civilization as a "bullet shield" to occupy the Klaxians' attention while they escaped further into the galaxy, a scenario which posed a potentially apocalyptic threat to the whole of humanity.

I reckon the barnacles appeared as part of a supply route/vanguard before the full retreat of the first thargoid faction. They strip mine the planet for materials which are then harvested by thargoid ships (which can be observed in game)

They're the ones planning to run through oir space.

When I look at all of the materials needed to be hauled into the station to get it back online, my eyes glaze over!

That is simply OVER THE TOP RIDICULOUS!

There are not enough players out here that are still willing to GRIND to that level to ever get even OO back in operation.

Frontier needs to come up with a better and FUN way to resurrect these stations.

Until then... I'm out!

"IF" true.

they now find them self's trapped between two walls of evil. Thanks to our shoot first, ask questions later war mongering mentality.

You know what they say about a cornered cat right? They have all right to be scared.

But again.. "If true"

You guys are forgetting that in the ED universe, we commanders are insignificant in the grand scheme of things. I for one have full confidence that our NPC counterparts will lift their weight and get Obsidian Orbital back into business with minimal effort from us. Have faith in our virtual friends :)

lol.. so true..

There is no way they let Obsidian burn down if YOU wont be able finish this goal.

OK, but what does this have to do with Obsidian Orbital? It wasn't an affront to the Thargoids and was there well before that was even possible in the game.

Seems kind of off topic to be going on about war mongering here. Save that for where it's more relevant if you feel so strongly about it. In general, I agree with your stance on it, by the way.

That was exactly my point, ninjad!

What does OO has to do with any of this? It was attacked and burnt down - it now needs repairing.

Countering the war-mongering mentality is one of the reasons for TWH starting this project. Let's put aside the differences, wars and conflicts. Let's UNITE for once and do something together. Not for Federation, not for Empire, not for Aegis - for HUMANITY.

Ah, thats frm the novel. yet thats not entirely revealed to public within the ED universe is it?

now i am a bit confused.
SOL is rather much at the edge of the galaxy, So when the thargoids intent to flee INTO teh galax using the humans as sheilds to the klaxians, that would mean Klaxians, Osresians, Humans.
Iirc, but this could be wrong, isn't MAIA more towards the center? So when the Osresians want to flee into the galaxy, wouldn't this mean they are totally going into the wrong direction?

lol.. so true..

But it would be interesting to see the "story" they come up with how it is saved :p

Precisely... I've asked a few other groups who have rallied round before to help out - anyone involved in the Pioneers Cooperative should have an interest in rebuilding the home of the inserted faction.

If Obsidian Orbital were not an anarchy, but say a Democracy, a Cooperative or Communist, would that change anyone's views? If we can save the station I am sure we can also organise a regime change, if we can agree on which faction should control it.

I don't care much about the form of government as long as the system security is better than zero. If I have to shoot down incoming pirates/murderhobos/psychopaths, I want a) at least a distractive Viper on my side and b) compensation for my damage in the form of a bounty claim.

An unshielded T-10 is survivable - but it itsn't cheap.

I don't mind flipping the system afterwards. The main goal is to repair it first! :D

Alright, I'm on my way back for what good it'll do. Not sure if I'll be able to get there until after two or three play sessions from where I am though.
