Chieftain vs FAS (nearly same setup / fittings)

Really not sure how I want to outfit one of these yet...

Two large hard points kind of make me want to put APA's on them. A medium with an Imperial Hammer is rarely a bad choice.
Three smalls with Phasing Sequence Burst Lasers might not be bad.

But it's hard to say for sure.. how it handles the heat could be an issue.

actually, the very best way to make everyone happy would be to:

- Add another utility mount (make it 5)
- split a s2 internal into two s1

That would make it both different from the FAS and viable as a low range exploration ship.

TOTALLY AGREE!!! please fdev make this happen

Different armor (Chieftain has 10% less base armor, and I fully expect a lower hardness rating)
Different firepower (Chieftain has more, three smalls are worth a lot more dps than one medium)
Different shield strength (from the glance in the livestream, the Chieftain has significantly better default shield value, on par with the gunship with size 6 shield)
Different hardpoints (Chieftain hardpoint convergence will be much better than the up/down larges on the FAS)
Different mass (Chieftain hull should be lighter based on shield and armor values)

But yeh, it does seem like a rejigged FAS, we've been saying it in other threads too.

+Looks Cool. :)

It doesn't have loads of both.

That is the problem.

They wont make the jump range longer. Its base jump is already higher than others in its class. If anything I'm guessing they are going to nerf the chieftain. Basically due to once engineered it will out maneuver, out jump every thing in it's class. Everyone has to remember this isn't a mulitrole ship its a combat ship. It's not designed as a replacement for any ship just a gap filler. Remember they nerfed the hell out of the python. They nerfed shield strength, armor, maneuverability, speed. Shield and maneuverability they nerfed by 30%.

They are going to nerf the chieftain before long. Giving the right cmdr and engineering this thing is going to be almost untouchable.
Also everyone has to remember that the hull is mostly engine pods and wings so you cant go adding internals. No room. And its a combat ship so they wont get rid of the military compartments.

Everyone needs to wait for it to be in the full game to see what they have done with it and to use it before wanting buffs. They very rarely buff any ship they always nerf.

I was just hoping for it to be SLF capable...

If it's just another FAS, why would I take the money hit to buy it over keeping my FAS?

A ship that's similar to another ship, with some fairly small alternative pros and cons to add unique flavor and style? No cripling weaknesses making its strong points irrelevant, nor any obvious massive advantages making its contempories obsolete? Is this, dare I say, a balanced ship being added to the game?

Allow me to introduce you to the FDL

Also the diamond backs (recently got a mass reduction and / or extra compartments) and the keelback (which had an internal increased in size) or pretty much all the trade ships (that got their base integrity increased). In fact, the only ship nerf I can think of off the top of my head is the legendary python nerf.

Agree. Most of the buffs were trade ships basically as balancing. Because alot of people were using multi role ships and the trade ships needed a buff to balance it out. The fdl buff was at the time of the python nerf. Because people were complaining that it was a combat ship and the python was beating it. Unless there was another buff that i didn't know about. And the dbx was also a balance issue due to the fact that its an exploration ship and people favoured other ships. Alot of the nerfs haven't been big hits just small hits. The biggest nerf of all time was the python. They didn't just nerf one thing but many in big hits. The python never received a decent buff since the nerf.

The passenger ships too - the Orca had a weight loss, the Beluga an extra big fuel tank and then a weight loss later.

Small thing to add , class of shield generator has no meaning at all. Look at Cutter and then look at T10 , they both can fit te same C8 shield generator and their shield strenght is not even close to start comparing it

Don't see the reason of this ships honestly.

It was stated to be beetwen python and gunship but seems a copy of the fas.

Also, those 3 small points are mainly used for pvp purpose than pve purpose ('cause you can add a lot of effect which can help you in the fightining) but really very few reason to get it in Pve,except maybe the shape which is definitly interesting.

Maybe a ship of the same level of python or fdl would be much more appreciated (we have fas, imperial clipper, gunship and now chieftain Vs Python/Fdl).

Maybe un 3 large and 2 medium like the python but with much less cargo capacity and more oriented toward fightining, more agile than python but less than Fdl, would be a winning choice.

My 2 cents of course...

Has anybody mentioned hitbox size for the Chieftan?

Looks to me to be a similar thing to the Cobra, in that its a small target head on but huge when turning...

More so than the FAS?...
